Kell Watts returned from his ankle injury on Tuesday evening. The defender started in Wigan’s 2-1 win at Solihull Moors in an FA Cup First Round replay. Watts had missed the previous two league matches after suffering the injury in the initial FA Cup tie.
It was deadlocked after full-time at a goal apiece. But The Latics got a winner in the 104th minute from midfielder Callum Lang to advance to the second round. Watts was able to play the full match, which was his 17th appearance during his loan spell.
Matty Longstaff got a rare run out in Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee United on Saturday. Matty was brought on in the 73rd minute for Jack Gurr for just his fifth appearance.
The match was 0-0 heading into the break when both teams had a player sent off within minutes of each other. It was still scoreless when Matty came on in the second half. Unfortunately, Dundee got the winner in the 80th minute through Ian Harkes.
Aberdeen have now lost two straight matches and find themselves in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership. The nervy times has manager Stephen Glass preferring experience over youth at the moment.
Rodrigo Vilca continues to gain valuable experience during his loan spell. He started Doncaster’s 0-0 draw against Lincoln City at home yesterday. Vilca was brought off in the 94th minute for Lirak Hasani.
This was Vilca’s 12th appearance overall and 7th start in the league. Doncaster are still mired in 23rd place in the League One table.
Lewis Cass and Port Vale suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat at Oldham Athletic on Saturday. Cass started and played the entire match which was tied at 2-2 heading into stoppage time.
Unfortunately, an own goal from Aaron Martin in the 93rd minute has resigned The Valiants to the 3-2 defeat. They are currently in third in the League Two table. Cass has made 16 appearances so far this term, 11 of which have been league starts.
Oisin McEntee and Tom Allan both started in Greenock Morton’s 2-1 defeat at Raith Rovers. It was McEntee’s 9th start and Allan’s 10th appearance. Greenock Morton are now second bottom of the Scottish Championship.
Jake Turner was brought on in the 48th minute of Colchester’s 1-0 defeat at Stevenage when starting Goalkeeper Shamal George was forced off with an injury. It was just the third appearance for Jake. He helped to keep Stevenage, who had converted a penalty just before halftime, quiet in the second half.

I’ve got a feeling they’ve already signed the DoF but haven’t announced it yet so as to not unsettle the team with all the links to players that will appear to be more than gossip once he’s in place.

Comment #53Natural position or not his hand prevented a goal bound shot, that San Marino player’s arm was purely accidental after calling for offside, the shot wasn’t on target yet was given. Funny old game.

I really hope so! Because I got the feeling we come off as a little unprofessional right now, without a football person to run negotiations and make a clear path ahead for the football club.

By all accounts they have been interviewing different candidates, as I said before you’d like to think that anyone who is seriously considering taking the job if selected would be doing their homework on us already. They will have an extensive data base of players as it is and especially with all the technology available on players now. Once one is given the green light it won’t take much time to meet with the manager, draw up a shortlist of possible signings and then get down to the business end of signing them up.

Talking about transfers and the WC, I’m sat watching Spuds vs Leeds and it got me thinking.
If Leeds go down will Phillips, a Leeds fan apparently, go down with them or look for a move?
Few others in similar positions.

Comment #61We urgently need a DoF who can identify players that will be good enough and prepared to join NUFC in a relegation dogfight. No point trying to bring in players from Barcelona etc, or good young prospects that may not yet be ready for PL.

I have been reasonably good this year and would like you to bring to NUFC a decent back four, a box to box CM and a decent striker.
Thank you and a Merry Christmas.

Comment #67Theres to many unknowns to say who will or won’t come in Jan.
If we’re 6pts or more adrift it’ll be hard.
If we’re a cpl points away from safety I’d think it’ll be relatively easy and we’ll get the majority of players we want.
Everything depends on the games between now and Jan 1st.
I think we’ve got enough to get enough from those games to be within touching distance come January.
We won’t make ground every week, just as we won’t lose it.
A point against Arsenal next week would change a few people’s Outlook I reckon.
