Loan Update – Defender Returns From Injury As Two Other Magpies Get Rare Appearances

Kell Watts returned from his ankle injury on Tuesday evening. The defender started in Wigan’s 2-1 win at Solihull Moors in an FA Cup First Round replay. Watts had missed the previous two league matches after suffering the injury in the initial FA Cup tie.

It was deadlocked after full-time at a goal apiece. But The Latics got a winner in the 104th minute from midfielder Callum Lang to advance to the second round. Watts was able to play the full match, which was his 17th appearance during his loan spell.

Matty Longstaff got a rare run out in Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat at Dundee United on Saturday. Matty was brought on in the 73rd minute for Jack Gurr for just his fifth appearance.

The match was 0-0 heading into the break when both teams had a player sent off within minutes of each other. It was still scoreless when Matty came on in the second half. Unfortunately, Dundee got the winner in the 80th minute through Ian Harkes.

Aberdeen have now lost two straight matches and find themselves in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership. The nervy times has manager Stephen Glass preferring experience over youth at the moment.

Rodrigo Vilca continues to gain valuable experience during his loan spell. He started Doncaster’s 0-0 draw against Lincoln City at home yesterday. Vilca was brought off in the 94th minute for Lirak Hasani.

This was Vilca’s 12th appearance overall and 7th start in the league. Doncaster are still mired in 23rd place in the League One table.

Lewis Cass and Port Vale suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat at Oldham Athletic on Saturday. Cass started and played the entire match which was tied at 2-2 heading into stoppage time.

Unfortunately, an own goal from Aaron Martin in the 93rd minute has resigned The Valiants to the 3-2 defeat. They are currently in third in the League Two table. Cass has made 16 appearances so far this term, 11 of which have been league starts.

Oisin McEntee and Tom Allan both started in Greenock Morton’s 2-1 defeat at Raith Rovers. It was McEntee’s 9th start and Allan’s 10th appearance. Greenock Morton are now second bottom of the Scottish Championship.

Jake Turner was brought on in the 48th minute of Colchester’s 1-0 defeat at Stevenage when starting Goalkeeper Shamal George was forced off with an injury. It was just the third appearance for Jake. He helped to keep Stevenage, who had converted a penalty just before halftime, quiet in the second half.

    The crowd was great.

There was even a woman in the posh seats screaming at Maxi… PASS IT, PASS IT!!!!!

Then at Joelinton… SHOOOT ya bugga, SHOOOT!!!

I think she had to be carried out by four security people.

    😆

Yes, I do find it incredulous that with a third of the season gone and bottom of the league that you could even begin to claim that we’re not in a relegation battle, personally I think that it’s a classic case of arguing that black is white purely for the sake of it.

WorB Eeh! where you sitting near me, I had two new gentlemen sitting either side of me, honestly they thought they had got away from their wives incessant shouting and screeching, unfortunately to sit next to me, I did warn them, they never opened their mouths, but both assured me they didn’t mind. 😀

What really pleased me was ASM and Joelintons hunger to get into the box on the end of chances it wasn’t perfect but when you watch guys like Salah and Mane watch how they sneak in at the back post for goals similar to ASM goal

I had my doubts either player could do it as they hardly ever got into the box so was clearly down to the coaching?

If you suddenly get those 2 with Wilson scoring goals together we will have a chance

It’s mad not to recognise we aren’t in a relegation battle at the moment with the run of fixtures coming in to Christmas it’s no guarantee we won’t be cut off from the pack, we’re already 5 points from safety as it stands, how perilous our position is will dictate who will come to us, the new owners have shown naivety at times in the beginning, there’s no guarantee they will find their stride with the limited timescale to January, there’s a fair few clubs fighting relegation too, the competition down there is gonna be ruthless this year to stay up. I’m hopeful we will stay up but I still the fear, we can’t be arrogant, add in the fact that there were rumours that other clubs do not want to do business with us because of the Saudis… There are still plenty of variables that may not go our way, but there is hope now around the club which we haven’t had for a decade and a half

I think Howe will try get a Bournemouth player in the Jan window

Billing would be a quality box to box midfielder that we need

Kelly a pacy ball playing centre half who can also play left back

Either of them would be quality and are ready to make the step up properly

It’s entirely up to you how you see it.

We’re in a tough spot, until we’re in the run in I don’t see it as the relegation battle.

Are Everton who are in 11th only 6pts clear in the relegation battle?

They’re closer to 18th than we are to 17th.

Any season for us or anyone else it’s hard to really judge where anyone will finish until January.

See how teams cope with Xmas, half the season is done so you can judge the team fairly, see what additions are made etc.

I see discussing players seriously as pointless until we have a real idea of our position in January.

I see claiming we’re all but relegated now as ridiculous!

If you want to say we’re in a relegation battle you have to say Everton are!

OP surely you see the risk ahead, lots of hurdles to overcome, ill feel better when are back in the mix but 6 points and no wins in 12 is worrying no matter what the clubs future resources are, id say Everton are in the mix too currently, they might knee jerk if their form continues.

Everyone’s got their own opinions, there’s a lot of people on this blog with pretty strong ones. Just gotta have a little respect for other peoples.

BTW, I kinda agree with you and OP that there is far too much left of the season to say we’re in serious trouble yet….but the longer it goes on the more concerning it is.

Proper rollercoaster of a game – came away feeling a bit sick. 😳

Got the draw but it felt like a loss. 🙁

Really need to get Dummett fit and the defence sorted, 433 will do till Jan.

At the moment we (Norwich also) are the team everyone’s looked at in years past and thought, yep they’re gone.

However, the TO and new manager is a game changer, gives us an edge.

The fat lady isn’t even changed yet, let alone singing.

Well for me every season we’re in a relagation battle, and I am anxious until we are mathematically safe, but I’m always the pessimist, when we win a match, I’ll feel a little better, but it’s the Newcastle way, and we are always hoping that there are three worse teams,

I see the risks ahead,I also see the risks for teams around us.

    We’re on 6 pts.

Theres 24 available before Jan 1st which will be just over half way in the season.

I’ve total confidence we can get another 10 pts+ from those games!

The league position looks awful but I don’t see us being in as bad shape as others do.

Getting to Jan in decent shape is the key to survival and I feel we’ve a great chance!

I’m not talking relegation battle as it’s too early, I also don’t believe we’ll be anywhere near the bottom 3 spots come the end of the season.

I believe Howe would keep this lot up without new signings!

    ACE

It’s not so much discussing players, it’s when posters say this player or that definitely will or won’t. We’ve absolutely no idea, there’s no definites.

This season is going to be long and tricky.

Some weekends results will go in our favour, some weekends they won’t.

The important thing is, (a) don’t panic, (b) trust Eddie and his boys and for those at the ground (c) keep up that tremendous, explosive support.

The message to the team should be that apart from Chelsea, Liverpool and ManC, we can beat every other team in this league.

We won’t of course, but we could. Remember Leicester away last season.

There are games we’ll win that looking at our position, the tendency will be to say we won’t.

We’ll not necessarily beat all the teams around us, but we’ll win more than we lose.

I still think we’ll survive, and in the end fairly comfortably. But we could still be in bottom 3 in February or even March, but so long as we’re not adrift, I’ll still be confident.

a glass half full kinda guy but also a guy thats superb with numbers and these numbers dont read good… just toying pal… i do believe we will be safe and i think it will look terrible before january comes around, im hoping the master plan is damage limitation to Jan with the big run in of the top boys, then the upgrades then an epic yet comfortable escape.

But I fear the thought of relegation as it continually looms to date with us sitting below the red line anytime after the first 3 games of the seson.

I trust the ownership to give Eddie exactly what he needs to achieve their aims.

I don’t think I’ve had that confidence in any of the owners we’ve had since the mid 50’s when my support began.

One game after only 10 days training and that performance was transformational. It can only continue to improve and get better. We’re on the up and up. Trust me, I’m a Geordie. 🙂
