Who Did Our Readers Select As Newcastle’s Best Player Against Brentford?

During Eddie Howe’s press conference for Brentford, a journalist brought up Joelinton’s disappointing spell at Newcastle since joining as a record-signing in 2019. Howe immediately ticked off what he saw as the key attributes of the 25-year-old – technical player, very good feet, intelligence, and size.

Howe also expressed his belief Joelinton had a big future at the club as long as his potential could be unlocked. It appears that Howe was not just paying lip service as he handed Joelinton his first start since the defeat against Tottenham.

Joelinton ended up putting in the best performance of his Newcastle career. While it wasn’t quite enough for three points, he looked like a man reborn under this new coaching staff.

The Brazilian also struck the right tone after the match expressing his disappointment about not picking up our first win of the campaign. Joelinton was happy with his performance but also bemoaned not taking a very good chance late in the match.

The key for Joelinton is going to be to follow up this performance with another solid one at Arsenal next weekend. He should be in the starting eleven once again based on this performance.

Whether Eddie Howe can work with the lads before the match is another question. Though Jason Tindall and the rest of the staff will relay Howe’s message during preparation this week.

Tindall was asked about Joelinton’s performance on Saturday and said the following:

“First of all, I think Joelinton’s a fantastic player. Ever since we’ve been here, we’ve seen the quality that he’s got.

“The performance he delivered today was outstanding. His work ethic for the team was exactly what was asked.

“He got a fantastic goal, and hopefully, that’ll give Joe the confidence moving forward because he’s certainly going to be a big player for this football club and this team.”

The big Brazilian has captured our poll as Newcastle’s best player with his Man of the Match display. It wasn’t close as he took 68% of the vote with Allan Saint-Maximin coming in a distant second.

Peter – in case you’re still around, regarding Bruce the player, I didn’t even make a comment about that on the previous post. Must have been someone else. But, he was an excellent player for sure. As a manager, he’ll go down as someone with an impressive career in terms of length (1,000 games) but no trophies, limited successes, no club will really remember his legacy, and he didn’t really seem to move with the times. I think football is better without the likes of Bruce, Big Sam, and Harry to be honest.

    Pain in the Blog

Like others who complained about that Mail/ Littlejoy piece, I got the same stock reply. I’d like to think Amanda complained or will do, but she and her legals think it’s not worth bothering about – distasteful though it was.

The only comfort I’ve drawn is that the IPC copied its response to the Mail.

Can we hope that it apologises and sacks Littlejohn? I think not, it’s clearly trying to appeal to aspiring nasty party voters, dumbing down, trawling the depths for readers.

Speaking of nasties, it’s a pity that the country’s liar in chief wasn’t in the Port of Tyne rather than spouting more fantasy.

Here’s the thing about garbage like the Daily Mail. Don’t buy it or click on links when it’s spouting lies and attacking other people just because they might align with your politics. All you do is enable them to attack more people and tell more lies.

They’re trash. Even if they agree with you on one topic, they’d happily lie and screw you over if they thought it was worthwhile. News should be about reporting facts not lies to influence politics or personal attacks to get hits and clicks.

Getting reported (sportsmole) that Dummett is targeting a date of December to get back playing so potentially Available in a few weeks? Could potentially get a few important games out of him before the next window.

magicmac54 – I haven’t heard anything from Howe since before the game though so I hope he’s doing ok and not really struggling with Covid. It can make people tired and with symptoms for weeks or even months afterwards. Really hoping we (and he) don’t get that unlucky!

I hope Dummett is available soon. He may be limited in attack, but we’ve sorely missed his no-nonsense defensive capability.

I’d like to see him LB in a 4-2-3-1

Apparently Fede’s had a fall out with Jones and that’s why he has been out the fold.

Had to be something like that as it was strange he just fell out of favour

    Wor B

He has been a huge miss. The defence is so much stronger and assured when he plays. With him and Dubravka back we would see a much more solid defence. Really hope he gets back and fit ASAP as mentioned above we need him like never before!

Whenever I see Jocky Wilson’s name mentioned I always remember the time Dexy’s Midnight Runners appeared on Top of the Pops and sang their song Jackie Wilson Said. They had a big picture of Jocky Wilson behind them though, which people thought was a mistake, but was actually on purpose for a laugh…

Re Fernandez that would make sense as to why he is not getting picked as it has puzzled me. If that is true and fact, then that is not good as we really need to put these arguments to one side and get the best players in the team to safeguard our season. We need results and he can assist us in getting them. Clarke is playing over him? Crazy!

    Fede’s had a fall-out with Jones? WTF

Unless he’s got a thing going on with Mrs Jones, just sort it and move on.

This is not the time for silly power games.

We need everyone rowing in the same direction.

It’s the only thing that makes sense to me but what is a tad confusing is it’s a new start under Howe and you would of thought it was a fresh start for all, depends on how Fede’s approaching it all and was told he needs to step it up in training to be considered again.

Madness Clark plays over him. Hopefully Dummy is back for next month like you said as he is very underrated and the best defender we have IMO

Definitely something weird happening with Fernandez. Jones’ explanation made zero sense to me too. If a central defenders gets injured or sent off, don’t you want a quality central defender to come on from the bench???

Nah…something going on there. Hoping he’s ok but they’re covering for something in some shape or form. Could be he’s got something going on and the club are closing ranks around him. I’m cool with that if it’s the case.

All Slates should be wiped clean and that means fall outs. Especially at a time such as now when we have a back line that needs tightened up.

Obviously none of us know what has happened behind the scenes and how serious it is if your sources reports are correct about a fall out, but it does make sense to that being the reason he is out the match day sqaud(s) at present. January can’t bloody come quick enough.
