Report – Newcastle Want Gini Wijnaldum In January

There’s news in an exclusive from TEAMtalk today that Newcastle want to sign former central midfielder Gini Wijnaldum in January.

Gini left Newcastle for Liverpool in 2016 after only one season at the club, after Newcastle were relegated.

We signed Gini for £14.5M from PSV in the summer of 2015 and sold him to the Reds for £25M, one year later.

It was another financial deal the former couldn’t turn down, but also Gini didn’t want to play in England’s second division, even with Rafa Benitez as coach.

Wijnaldum had 5 good years at Liverpool, winning both the Premier League and the Champions League.

The versatile midfielder is struggling for first-team action at his new club PSV, and maybe we could get him in on loan in January with an option to buy in the summer.

Gini has just turned 31, but he could still be an excellent player for us for two to three years.

The 85 times capped Netherlands International (26 goals) is not happy at PSG and had this to say to Portuguese outlet NOS recently:

“I’m not completely happy,” “The situation is not what I wanted.

“I have played a lot in recent years. This is something different and that takes getting used to.”

“I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.”

In his only season at Newcastle, he played for us 40 times with 11 goals, and while at Liverpool, he played 237 times with 22 goals.

Gini is a class player, there’s no doubt about that,  and he may welcome the chance to return to Tyneside to finish off his outstanding career at the world’s richest club.

He has real class and would undoubtedly be a good addition to our squad, and could make an immediate impact in January.

He is also versatile, but the big problem will be to try to convince PSG to part with him in January.

The better bet would be to sign him permanently next summer.

He would be an excellent signing in the summer too.

What do you think?

TTB@W ARMY – that’s exactly what I mean. PSG are spending big money on Gini so they obviously rated him, as did Liverpool when they signed him.

I would take Wijnaldum on if he agreed to stay in the event the club was relegated..
He is a first class player of the type we desperately need..

    I’d take him..

Better than most that we have..

And the trouble with having the richest owners on the planet is we’re gonna get mugged off once in a while..

A fair assessment of the situation and the possible impact of relegation – which the consortium, PIF in particular, won’t be too happy about.

I therefore think that if surviving the drops a realistic possibility, then there’ll be some big spend to avoid it. If by January, it looks as though it’s inevitable, that we’re near certain to be relegated, then don’t expect too much.

I think some fans are getting a little bit too big for their boots. We are in a relegation battle this season and finishing a solid 11/12th next season would be decent progress if it means not being in a relegation battle, with a top half finish the season afterwards to continue the progress.

We’d have to do incredibly well to qualify for Europe before the 25/26 season.

Read a sensible article that the owners want to mainly get loans in January. Would make sense. Loans for players in the middle age ranges but could also sign some younger players we can develop and some older players to offer the experience and might want to transition to coaching in a few years.

TTB@W ARMY – He’s playing just not as often as he’d like. They have an amazing squad! A player who is just outside starting for PSG is good enough to be a starter for us. We are nowhere near PSG’s level.

That’s not our problem Regan I would think that they are quite aware of that.
Do the corrupt six pay over the odds? I would imagine until we get involved higher up the league and we get that magnetism it will be difficult to convince..

    TDSarf,
Loans make total sense and a couple of quality fringe players that would be prepared to help get us back up if the worst happened.

It’s not just about having the richest owners, it’s also that they know we’ll be desperate to get some players in and avoid relegation. If we were mid table, well clear of the bottom three, and not looking like being sucked in, then they’d be in a stronger position when negotiating deals for incoming players. But we’re not. We need players and selling clubs and agents know that.

I mean fringe players as in very good players that can’t get in to their teams. In each would be fantastic but is he too important to Leicester despite not playing much and would he be prepared to play in the championship.

I can’t see this happening but if it did I’d be buzzing. He’s a top class player and is miles ahead of anything we have.

We need quality signings in January irrespective of age or salary. They need to serve one purpose, to keep us up. If that means paying over the odds so be it.

    Relegation would be catastrophic.

Teams can turn around relatively quick.

    Look at West Ham.

We often see newly promoted teams come up and get top 10 these days, they just then fail to invest to push on.

No reason we can’t be looking at top 10 next season should we stay up and who knows given each season has it’s own dynamics.

The season after next we should be looking at top 8 as baseline, if this season goes according to plan. By then we’ll have just about a whole new XI and bench except for one or two you’d think, so why not?

Jail – yeah, it’s all about personality then really. Do the players want to be invested in a project? Maybe a firm starter now and certainly needed next season if we get relegated. But do they want to stay on the ride and be a squad/backup player in several years time when we get back in the CL or win our first trophy? Would be amazing for certain types of people and not interesting for others.

Did you read my reply about Willock by the way? Haven’t noticed a response from you.

I would rather we started signing players who are going to be here for at least the next 2 years. You start loaning a load of players you could end up with the situation Fulham had last season, imo alot of them gave up as they could go back to their parent club at seasons end.

Probably won’t stay up without any additions to the squad in January. .

Which means paying either full transfer fees or loan fees..

    Still spending in my eyes..

Lads I’d imagine an easy way to sort this box issue is for Mund to ring the club and send them the details of the guys identification he sent Mund, and simply ask does he work at the club. Then email the club response to anyone who wants to go as reassurance.

Why are ye still arguing about this, it needs to stop! People are smart enough to know how to spend their own money by now! I don’t think Mund is trying to fool or steal from anyone, he just needs to be certain it’s all above board before anything goes ahead, which I’d image is easy enough to sort out.

It’s agenda driven mate nothing more, nothing less.

The blog box won’t be getting sorted from my end anymore and we will never get it for that price again. All I was trying to do was make it happen for a few on here but tbf all who wanted to be involved were gracious about it.

Jail – Yes it does. My opinion is that Bruce will have asked for more (he alluded to being unhappy they didn’t sign more) but he didn’t have the power to push through more signings.

I reckon if you’d given Bruce the choice of Willock or a centre half for that kind of money, even he would have picked the centre half to give us the best chance of a decent finish this season.

Regan we will have to spend money of that you are 100% correct, although 3 to four players would be enough in my eyes.
    Goalkeeper (if decent one available)?
    Centre back. Tarkovski
    Defensive Midfielder Billing
    Striker. Moore.
