Newcastle are one of a number of clubs reportedly scouting Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz, who is lighting up The Championship this season. According to Eurosport, Newcastle have been on scouting missions to watch the 22-year-old.
Brereton Diaz has filled the goalscoring void left by Adam Armstrong’s departure in the summer. The Stoke-born attacker has bagged 16 goals in his 20 league appearances, trailing only Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic with 21.
Despite playing for England at the U20 level, Brereton Diaz was called up for the Chile national team this past summer. He qualifies through his mother. He’s already been capped 9 times with 3 goals.
He is quite versatile and can play as an inside forward on the left or as a striker. Last season with Armstrong in the team, Brereton Diaz also played as a second striker or on the right wing.
He joined Blackburn from Nottingham Forest, initially on loan in 2018. Blackburn made the move permanent the following summer for around £7m. While his contract is set to expire next summer, there is an option for it to be extended for another year.
Blackburn are trying to tie their rising star down on a long-term deal. Though with interest from The Magpies, Leeds, Brighton, Burnley, and Southampton, they may be forced to trigger their option and sell him next summer.
Newcastle’s interest, barring a few scouting trips, is uncertain. Brereton Diaz has no top-flight experience but is certainly a player on the rise. He could be one to watch depending on how Newcastle’s fight for survival pans out at season’s end.

I must admit that despite being an optimist, my feelings at the end of the Norwich game were very negative.
However, in the cold light of day I have been looking at our ‘relegation rivals’ and here’s my conclusion.
To get to 38 points, a perceived safety point, we need 10 wins or the equivalent (approximately) from 24 games. A big ask but not impossible.
Now Burnley need the same and Norwich need 9 wins.
Also Southampton and Watford need 8 wins and Leeds need 7 !
I’m thinking we have to improve and we’ve had no luck so far and it must be worth a punt on us staying up!

Comment #9Ron, read your vaccine post. So far on the Pfizer booster (got it at about midday) I’ve been a bit jaded with a slightly sore arm. However I’ve been told to expect to feel shite off jab 3. So I think a half a bottle of wine should do the job nicely. Was warned off exercise but I forgot to ask the GP about the danger of having a few vinos tonight. Shame.
Maybe Carltoon can advise 🙂

Comment #14Clark’s sending off was awful, and he must be suffering badly now because of it, but Dubravka’s flap at that cross was also terrible, and he’ll be going through his share of internal strife too, despite otherwise playing very well. All players make mistakes, and it really was a great finish to punish his, but as mistakes go, that was right up there with Darlow’s howler that got him dropped. When it went in, I was so deflated I literally and immediately found myself unable to interact with the outside world for a few hours, just disappeared within myself. Both players will be punishing themselves. Dubravka’s smart though, he’ll work through it, and be right for Burnley. Clark will almost certainly not be required for a while.

Comment #16The fat man should’ve brought arma back from Blackburn but he was to greedy so think we’ve already missed this trick. On another note ….. should Rafa get sacked from Everton after their inevitable humping tonight how would fellow bloggers feel having him back as technical director …. just a thought and think it could work.

Comment #17Not on here too often does anyone have a sniff of an idea why Ferd has been kept at arms length regarding team choice?
He cam on as sub last night yet still came 2nd in our poll for mom.
He’s our best defender yet he struggles to find playing time……has he been caught with his CKs around his ankles with someone’s wife?

Tindall came out with some stuff the other day which sort of made sense to me …. basically he’s no good as a sub as he wouldn’t be used he either starts or doesn’t get in squad …. sort of saying he’s to experienced and good to be on bench and other than injury or sending off cbs aren’t used as subs…. on the bench yesterday due to lascelles suspension. Luckily.

Comment #29Rangnick has shown it’s possible to fluctuate between management and technical director roles, so Rafa might well fancy the job, and of course he thoroughly knows the landscape. But there would appear to be a gulf in his and Howe’s footballing philosophies, and we know both love the training pitch. He could be tempted though, should it come undone for him at Everton, and he’s a pro above all else, and so you’d expect he’d recognize and respect boundaries. I’d certainly welcome it.
