Newcastle Make Contact For Premier League Striker – Report

With Newcastle’s match against Southampton, originally scheduled for today, being postponed, we didn’t get to hear Eddie Howe’s team news. Though the fact that the Premier League granted Newcastle’s request tends to indicate we would have had quite a few players missing.

The extent of injuries to some players is still unknown. Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Ryan Fraser were all forced off against Manchester United with muscle injuries. The general belief is that Wilson will be out for a lengthy period while Saint-Maximin and Fraser just suffered knocks.

The loss of Wilson has forced a rethink for the winter window. Striker targets have now jumped to the head of the queue with quite a few being named over the past few days. Torino’s Andrea Belotti, Real Madrid’s Luke Jovic, Flamengo’s Gabriel Barbosa, and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele have all been recently linked.

The Mirror is now reporting that Newcastle have contacted Arsenal over a potential move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has recently been exiled at The Emirates due to disciplinary reasons. The 32-year-old hasn’t played since early December and was also stripped of the captaincy.

The report claims Newcastle want Aubameyang on loan for the next six months with a £20m purchase option. The striker is currently away with Gabon for the Africa Cup of Nations. His future as a Gunner seems very much in doubt.

Mikel Arteta has looked to youth this season while still retaining the services of a few veterans like Granit Xhaka, Alexandre Lacazette, and Aubameyang. Lacazette’s contract runs out this summer while Aubameyang is tied down until 2023.

Aubameyang will have to work his way back into Arteta’s graces to play again this season. Now maybe the time Arsenal look to move their aging star. Whether he would want to come to or be a good fit at Newcastle seems suspect at the moment.

However, a loan deal with an option to buy could be a decent deal for Newcastle. Though with him away on international duty, he may not be available until February depending on how well Gabon fares at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Great striker who knows where the goal is but definitely got attitude issues. Would be okay short term but is a contract chaser. Once he gets the big contract he appears to put his feet up.

Take him until the summer then get in players to continue the growth of the team

PEA is exactly the type of players we should be avoiding the guys attitude is horrible

Since he got that big contract he has been poor the lack of effort he puts on the pitch too is not what we need right now

Who was the Dutch player who played for Chelsea? They had a total breakdown and refused to play him. He refused a transfer so everyday of training, he would fly in from Amsterdam, turn up at Cobham for training, get told to leave and get next shuttle back to Amsterdam. Went on for more than a year.

Mental image of Regan and PEA already on the naughty step, Lukaku rocks up, Regan hands him a rolly, the Belgian striker says, go-on then what the hell.

Munster, I had to look him up!. Ex Man U, loaned out to loads of lower league clubs, got bought by WBA. Cannot be an improvement on Dubs.

Wouldn’t say Johnstone would be an upgrade on Dubs at all he would be better than Darlow or Woodman mind you

Another thing about us signing a striker or 2 is we haven’t really been creating chances for Wilson so unless that improves we need a 1 chance 1 goal type of striker

I may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership but I don’t care.

PEA anyone, if we buy him?

Winston Bogarde, 40k per week, 12 appearance in 4 years (11in the first year) refused to leave cos no-one would pay him the same wages and at the time Chelsea couldn’t afford to pay out his contract. Think he got about 10mill for less than 12 full games

On a side note, if we do take PEA his contract needs to be so tight we can bin him or fine him if he doesn’t behave himself, money seems to be the only language he understands

Bunga Bunga, that is why we need two good CB’s, a very good MF to gel with Billy Joel, 2 FB,s and a spare striker.

Yikes, that is 6 players, getting them to play together will be a challenge. Maybe, we will wait for a left full back and see if Dummett makes it back

PEA is a world class striker but his wages, his age, his discipline and the fact he’s off to the AFCON makes this feel like a non-starter. Feels like journalists putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with Newcastle.

That being said, if he comes in I can see he would improve our goal-scoring changes and perhaps that’s why a loan is what is being discussed. It’s worth remembering he’s PL proven as well. Bringing in a striker to cover for Wilson who has never played in the PL before would be a massive gamble. I would argue Wilson is one of the top 5 out and out strikers (players like Salah are wide forwards) in the league right now.

PEA’s agent’s letting it be known that the player wants out of Arsenal – hence the link to NUFC.

Not too concern if Tripper signs or not. More worried if Newcastle didn’t get a CB,DM,LB and a Striker in.

With Pea, the only option would be to take on right at end of the window and pay him minimal wages and £500,000 per goal (penalties not included). Only money motivates him

IrishRob, someone last night did a quote from “he who not be named” You need to have several plates spinning at the same time and get the best one you can. I am sure we are doing that. I would expect 3 or 4 targets at every position we want to strenghen

Mund your list seems about right but there must be a proven striker in that list and a new left back and dm. Heres hoping
