Kieran Trippier started and played the entire match in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win against Rayo Vallecano this afternoon. However, his actions after the game along with comments from Diego Simeone may give Newcastle fans some hope that a deal is close.
Many are speculating that Trippier waived his goodbyes to the Atletico faithful after today’s match. Here is a tweet from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on the subject. Edwards also suggests that Burnley defender James Tarkowski is itching to come to Newcastle.
I wouldn’t get Trippier printed on the back of any #nufc shirts just yet but this looks like a goodbye to me. As for Tarkowski, he’a not exactly playing his best games for Burnley at the moment. I’m told he also wants to come to #nufc but Burnley very reluctant to sell https://t.co/twgDQ9gMSq

After the match, Simeone seemed to signal defeat in his attempts at keeping Trippier beyond the January window. Here is what the Atletico manager said when asked about his star right-back:
“We have always had to live with these situations; important and very good players within the team who have possibilities of leaving.
“Then it will depend on what the footballer himself wants. Consequently, we will try to follow what is happening and look for solutions.
“He is an important player for our team and we coaches can’t do too much in terms of players’ decisions, we can only tell Trippier how important he is for the team.”
It seems that Atletico Madrid have not accepted Newcastle’s opening bid but are expecting an improved one that they may not be able to reject. As Simeone suggests, if Trippier wants to join Newcastle, it will be difficult to stand in his way.
Mark Douglas, now with inews, is reporting that Newcastle are hopeful of bringing Trippier in with enough time to integrate him for the ultra-critical Watford match in two weeks. He also reports that Newcastle are closing in on a second deal as well.
According to Douglas, Newcastle want as many as six players brought in this month. This has been suggested in other articles with two center-backs, two fullbacks, a midfielder, and a striker on the agenda.
As far as Tarkowski goes, he has not been at his best of late. He made an error in this afternoon’s 3-1 defeat at Leeds leading to Jack Harrison’s opening goal. It could indicate, as Edwards hints above, that he has his heart set on a move to Tyneside.

Comment #2It is the old “Churchill?”
Anecdotal dialogue
Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Socialite: My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course…
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Socialite: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.
(This is a very old joke where the participants vary dramatically from each telling. It’s very unlikely though not impossible that the joke originated from Churchill.)

Comment #14I love the warning for the cannon the guy has put on the video….
WARNING: Cannons may make dogs bark, scare your mom, leave your neighbor dumbfounded, make cats panic, wake you up in the middle of the night shouting at the top of your lungs because you think you are being robbed, scare the crap out of you, and/or blow up your ears and brains; among other things

Comment #28During my UFO days I tried to ask Patrick Moore if there was a pictorial map schedule of satellites and mentioned it was because I wanted to be able to differentiate them from any unknown anomalies as a UFO researcher.
He called me a loony idiot and hung up on me, never forgiven him for that and I even based a character in my first book on him as revenge, that was before he passed away.
Only a very brief mention though! 🙂

Newcastle’s owners are hoping to make Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier their first signing this week.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone said today: “Nowadays when a player wants to leave,he cannot be retained.”

Comment #40Without being greedy i was hoping for more than 4 players coming to the club this transfer window. We only have Gayle to rely on up front..Who ain’t gonna save us.Desperately short of attacking midfielders and definitely could do with bringing in 2 or 3 defenders to shore up the back
