Kieran Trippier started and played the entire match in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win against Rayo Vallecano this afternoon. However, his actions after the game along with comments from Diego Simeone may give Newcastle fans some hope that a deal is close.
Many are speculating that Trippier waived his goodbyes to the Atletico faithful after today’s match. Here is a tweet from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on the subject. Edwards also suggests that Burnley defender James Tarkowski is itching to come to Newcastle.
I wouldn’t get Trippier printed on the back of any #nufc shirts just yet but this looks like a goodbye to me. As for Tarkowski, he’a not exactly playing his best games for Burnley at the moment. I’m told he also wants to come to #nufc but Burnley very reluctant to sell https://t.co/twgDQ9gMSq

After the match, Simeone seemed to signal defeat in his attempts at keeping Trippier beyond the January window. Here is what the Atletico manager said when asked about his star right-back:
“We have always had to live with these situations; important and very good players within the team who have possibilities of leaving.
“Then it will depend on what the footballer himself wants. Consequently, we will try to follow what is happening and look for solutions.
“He is an important player for our team and we coaches can’t do too much in terms of players’ decisions, we can only tell Trippier how important he is for the team.”
It seems that Atletico Madrid have not accepted Newcastle’s opening bid but are expecting an improved one that they may not be able to reject. As Simeone suggests, if Trippier wants to join Newcastle, it will be difficult to stand in his way.
Mark Douglas, now with inews, is reporting that Newcastle are hopeful of bringing Trippier in with enough time to integrate him for the ultra-critical Watford match in two weeks. He also reports that Newcastle are closing in on a second deal as well.
According to Douglas, Newcastle want as many as six players brought in this month. This has been suggested in other articles with two center-backs, two fullbacks, a midfielder, and a striker on the agenda.
As far as Tarkowski goes, he has not been at his best of late. He made an error in this afternoon’s 3-1 defeat at Leeds leading to Jack Harrison’s opening goal. It could indicate, as Edwards hints above, that he has his heart set on a move to Tyneside.

Please do more to stop this great blog being used to discuss the bug.
So many who used to post here do not anymore, or are much less frequent in their visits.
I think I may be right to say that you have all been very lenient so far but just a few well picked temporary bans would I’m sure sort it all out.

Nobody is even debating with you. It’s just you raging and debating with yourself 95% of the time. Everyone is just telling you to get this off the blog. An occasional message is OK, but you’re at it round the clock like toon22 used to be, but at least his crusade was against Ashley. The reason I use the blog, is because I really can’t stand facebook polarising and turning people into fanatics pumping out their party politikal broadcasts about the most trivial of things. Even xmas day, first time I’ve been on FB in about a year, to message family, a friend slams me with this stuff within seconds. I’ve already had to quit whatsapp and facebook because of fanatics of one sort or another, 5g, gun law arguments, BLM ‘debates’ etc. You are single handendly trying to turn the blog into a facebook style argument about something irrelevant to the club.
Now people have finally responded to you, it will be ‘I didn’t start it,’ or you’re all idiots/ sheep/ etc

No it’s people like you making wild accusation and posting lies to suit your narrative.
Why should anyone have to sit and read malicious and misleading lie after lie.
Idiots claiming un jabbed should be sent to a island.
People denying 300 players have collapsed in a year.
Blah blah blah.
Seems you and everyone else are fine discussing it when you make unsubstantiated claims and people like TDS blatantly lie, soon as someone points out your error it kicks off.
This is people’s health and lives you fools are putting at risk.
It’s not a popularity contest and I couldn’t care less what idiots who are willingly putting others lives and health at risk think!
Ignorance is a choice you TDS and a few others have made, I hope you can live with the guilt and shame when this is over!
Remember when you were encouraged to get a second opinion?
Remember when open dialogue in science and medicine meant progress?
No?
I hope you remember this post in the years to come!

Only message I ever got was, large white uncut and a pint of semi-skimmed.

Very interesting to read yesterday where Pete Grave’s (SSN) reported that some of the names bounced around by other reporters/media which our owners were going to sign were laughable. He went on to state we will be getting players in who are yet to be reported on. Who are they I wonder? It’s certainly going to be a very interesting few days (potentially weeks for certain players to get in)
Looking like Trippier is just about in the bag (hopefully announced by tomorrow) hopefully Botman is next up, then who knows who we are getting in under the radar. I hope we can get as many players in that will have the time to be available for the Watford game as that game is huge and a must win, as our season may be defined by it, it’s that important. As Wilson is injured, a striker is just as important as CB’s and CM players. Hope the striker we surely get in is top notch and can hit the ground running straight away and available for the Watford game? I just don’t trust Gayle to get the required goals in such an important fixture.

Comment #413While we’re on about women’s tennis, you will be pleased to learn I’ve booked a 12:00 tee off on Thursday in anticipation of my early release. I fully expect all our transfer business to be revealed while I’m incommunicado (that’s my pet name for the rough).

Comment #417Luke Edwards putting negative slant on potential Botman signing too. He (Edwards) really doesn’t like us. So, in a nutshell, it looks like Lille saying Botman isn’t for sale (code for ‘we want more money’). Whilst Botman is believed to be very interested in the project. Probably waiting to see what other players we are getting in, and if AC Milan do anything else.

Comment #419Someone said it very well earlier and it’s worth bearing in mind moving forward. We are now shopping for players who are much higher quality so the much better teams (probably in Europe already) are shopping for these too. We will win some and lose some – don’t be disheartened. For example, Man City didn’t get Kane this summer; they are doing alright

Comment #420Edwards speaking BS again saying Botman isn’t for sale 🙄
He is 100% for sale.
Milan want to pay in instalments were as we will pay money straight up. Lille need the money.
Botman interested in move.
Trippier being tied up then onto Botman
