There are multiple journalists now reporting that Kieran Trippier will become a Magpie in the next few days. The journalist who first reported of Newcastle’s interest in the right-back, Guillem Balage, has taken to Twitter with the following:
Trippier close to leaving, mostly his decision. Newcastle had his go ahead as far back as November and fee could be around £13m. Simeone appreciates him so much that he changed to title winning system to 5-3-2 to accommodate him. But he wouldnt stop anyone who wants to leave https://t.co/W9o5tBcVZz
— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) January 4, 2022
Balague is referencing a report in AS that Trippier will head to Newcastle today to complete a move believed to be for around £13m. The 31-year-old was not in training this morning and has reportedly said his goodbyes to his Atletico teammates.
Newcastle should have their first signing tied up over the next few days. The transfer is a massive boost for Eddie Howe and our new owners, who identified the right-back as a top target early on.
Trippier is leaving the defending La Liga champions and Champions League football for a relegation battle on Tyneside. His desire to return to England to be closer to his family as well as his close relationship with Howe were said to be strong factors in his decision.
Without any hiccups, Trippier should be a Magpie as early as tomorrow. That will give him plenty of time to integrate into the squad in time for the massive Watford match on January 15th.
Newcastle are also expected to announce that this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Cambridge United has been sold-out. We should see an absolutely rocking St. James’ Park on Saturday should this transfer finally go through.

Comment #41Ledge I have it myself for the past week or so, personally it’s the biggest piece of piss, I’m shocked at how mild it is, I didn’t even know I had until 6 other family members came down with it.
I’d take it over flu any day and twice on Sundays personally

Comment #44I wonder if the owners are going to be more surreptitious when bringing in players for medicals or parading them.
I.e try avoid situations where we end up tracking the planes to keep everything low key in case other clubs try hijack at the last minute and to have it be a surprise of sorts also.

Comment #49It would be nice if Trippier and one or two additional signings are introduced at the FA Cup game. So the sold out crowd can go wild.

Comment #50Alreet then here’s the next bit of that text.
The argument ran back and forth for some time with even Calhoun putting in a few words on behalf of Hibernian, the Edinburgh club, even though he wasn’t really a big football follower. “So what about yourself Miss Sophia?” asked Randi during a brief lull in the argument, “Is there a football team in Norway that you support?” The question came as a bit of a surprise to everyone as they hadn’t considered the possibility that football existed outside of the British Isles and there was silence as they waited for a reply.
“To be honest I am not a big fan of football but there is a lot of it played in Norway. The Germans were so keen to have an air of normality that they more or less forced the league teams to continue playing.” explained Sophia. “The biggest event is usually the Cup Final same as in England. How many people do you think attended the last one in 1942?”
“Oh, that’s a tricky one.” said Alec, “Little country, big occasion, not much else to cheer. Oh I would reckon about twenty thousand or thereabouts.”
Sophia smiled at this estimate, “Not bad. You are only about twenty thousand out.”
“What! You mean there was forty thousand at the game?” asked Julian incredulously.
“No, I mean that there were twelve people at the game. The Norwegian people voted with their feet and refused to sanction the Germans by attending the game.”
“Well good for them.” said Sam, “Does yeh want to hear the Geordie National anthem?”
Sophia looked at him quizzically, “You mean God Save the King,” she said. “Naah, that’s the English national anthem.” he replied.
“British,” chorused Alec and Calhount indignantly.
“Aah aye, sorry aboot that, British.” Sam corrected himself. “Anyway aall tell yeh what, aall sing the main vorses and yeh lot can join in wih the chorus. Aalreet?”
“Oh this should be a treat!” muttered Julian sarcastically.
“It sounds like a good idea.” said Jessica. She was intrigued and pleased at the way the conversation had lifted the spirits of the party making the arduous trek a little easier and a sing song would help even more.
“Alreet. One, two, three!” and without any other preamble Sam launched into the song.
The next bit isn’t to hard to guess! 🙂

Comment #51We’re potentially 24hrs away from signing one of the best right backs in the world, yet some fans were still finding ways to moan, complain or show disappointment that we hadn’t signed anyone immediately. A few days into the window and getting a world class right back. What’s not to enjoy so far and what is there to not be happy about in the window so far?

Comment #54All good ledge, it’s all relative to each person so I don’t want to say anything past my own experience pal.
Personally I’m kinda annoyed because I said I wasn’t going back to work for 3-4 weeks, not gonna lift a finger until mid January so it’s eating into my holiday time lol.
Just gonna play Witcher 3 and go back to Skyrim for a bit of down memory lane, to keep me occupied. Haven’t even turned on the ps4 in a month and a half so I kinda have a hankering for it now tbh.

Comment #57Sparky from 2 posts ago (bus moved fast). Totally agree re not for sale unless more more money. Summed up perfectly by George Bernard Shaw
Shaw: Madam, would you sleep with me for a million pounds?
Actress: My goodness. Well, I’d certainly think about it.
Shaw: Would you sleep with me for a pound?
Actress: Certainly not! What kind of woman do you think I am?!
Shaw: Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.
Although I do acknowledge various others have been attributed to that quote in the past

Will be out of isolation end of week, but missus does not want me trecking up to SJP for a good few months in case I pick up the lurgy again and have to isolate. She says, ‘if football means that much to you you can stay up there with your mother’. I have a season ticket and was planning on going to the Watford game. What would you do? Footy and divorce or post my season ticket up to brother?! There’s just no substitute for being there.

It is possible to get direct flights from Madrid to Newcastle.
Haven`t spotted any planes on that flight map heading to Toon mind, so for the time being just relax.

We don’t play a league game until the 15th so I don’t know why some fans are losing there minds. It’s only the 4th so that’s nearly two weeks away and so much can happen between now and then.

Comment #67I agree with Adamn what is there to complain about.
Ashley is gone.
Bruce is gone.
Charnley is gone.
Sports direct signs are gone.
The New owners have been brilliant so far it’s finally exciting to support our team again.
The communication from them is excellent and the icing on the cake is the supporters of other clubs moaning about us instead of laughing at us as they did when Ashley was here.

Comment #79Wonder if King Eddie see’s Trippier as a wing back and goes three at the back. Could get exposed Trippier playing in a 4 but has good quality going forwards for sure. Actually never been a huge fan but clearly better than what we currently have so good news. Hopefully he impresses from the start, possible skipper to be fair.
