There are multiple journalists now reporting that Kieran Trippier will become a Magpie in the next few days. The journalist who first reported of Newcastle’s interest in the right-back, Guillem Balage, has taken to Twitter with the following:
Trippier close to leaving, mostly his decision. Newcastle had his go ahead as far back as November and fee could be around £13m. Simeone appreciates him so much that he changed to title winning system to 5-3-2 to accommodate him. But he wouldnt stop anyone who wants to leave https://t.co/W9o5tBcVZz
— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) January 4, 2022
Balague is referencing a report in AS that Trippier will head to Newcastle today to complete a move believed to be for around £13m. The 31-year-old was not in training this morning and has reportedly said his goodbyes to his Atletico teammates.
Newcastle should have their first signing tied up over the next few days. The transfer is a massive boost for Eddie Howe and our new owners, who identified the right-back as a top target early on.
Trippier is leaving the defending La Liga champions and Champions League football for a relegation battle on Tyneside. His desire to return to England to be closer to his family as well as his close relationship with Howe were said to be strong factors in his decision.
Without any hiccups, Trippier should be a Magpie as early as tomorrow. That will give him plenty of time to integrate into the squad in time for the massive Watford match on January 15th.
Newcastle are also expected to announce that this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Cambridge United has been sold-out. We should see an absolutely rocking St. James’ Park on Saturday should this transfer finally go through.

Comment #295Maybe so, but at least it shows the owners are trying to get the right people in. He could come in after the January window and start planning for the summer and our assault on 6th place.

Comment #297Chelsea being interested depends on what Trippier wants. Would seem a bit odd to me to leave Athletico Madrid to go to Chelsea though, only to play for a few weeks while James is injured and then most likely sit on the bench. He may as well stay where he is and play every week.
Unless Chelsea can seriously sell it to Trippier that they see him as their first choice right back, I’d be surprised to see him going there.

You would have thought so,seeing how the FA have crumbled in the face of the mighty EPL.
The no replays in the 3rd and 4th round are a disgrace,it takes away the chances of giant killings and lucrative replays. The football pyramid my ar5e..

Comment #299Ashworth likely has a decent length notice period and will possibly be on gardening leave for a while too. No way will Brighton want him working for us during the transfer window so forget that, even if they reach an agreement for him to join.

Comment #301Never said he would be working for us during this transfer window, he could easily come in after though and start preparing for the summer one. It only needs the 2 clubs to come to an agreement on compensation and he’s ours and free to do what he wants.

Given the circumstances I have to agree with the no replays mind. Maybe if it goes to pens the home club have to offer more gate receipts.

Comment #306TTB@W ARMY – Yep. I wasn’t actually arguing with you so sorry if it seemed that way. Just pointing out based on previous comments that there’s basically zero chance he’ll be involved in this transfer window. Brighton would be wise to hold out for a lot of compensation to allow him to start earlier than his contract states too (could be 3 months, could be even longer).

No, the gate receipts was my idea, the FA haven’t approved it yet.
