Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie is reporting that Newcastle have agreed on a fee with Atletico Madrid for Kieran Trippier. The deal is reportedly for £12m plus add-ons with the 31-year-old due to travel to Newcastle for his medical.

This report is also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano who has given his signature ‘here we go’ which generally means this one is all but over the line.

Trippier was identified early on as a top target. The right-back has a great relationship with manager Eddie Howe from their Burnley days. While the add-ons could amount to quite a bit, this is an outstanding first signing of the new era.

Newcastle have moved swiftly for their top targets. We reportedly also have tried to bring Lille center-back Sven Botman in for around £30m though the French club is reluctant to sell in this window.

Newcastle may work to test their resolve but if they prove resolute, there are numerous other targets Newcastle can pursue. Newcastle may give Lille a little more time before moving on.

Getting Trippier in so early in the window means he will be integrated into the squad in time for our next Premier League match against Watford in 11 days. While he may not play, he will get his first glimpse of a sold-out St. James’ Park this weekend for our FA Cup tie against Cambridge.

It’s not a good signing. Neither is Botman who isn’t good enough to get in the Dutch squad ahead of Nathan Ake. We need to sign players who can make a difference. Boubacar Kamara, Koulibaly, Omar Colley, Coutinho, Tagliafico, Vlahovic, Aubameyang etc will all be decent signings.

Insigne is already a multi millionaire, jeez how much money do these players want.
It`s pure greed imo. It`s not enough to earn a fortune in Italy or Spain, good standard, with world class players, they want even more playing against has beens and B rated players.
You can only spend so much of your fortune in a lifetime. Players like Insigne give other professionals a bad name .

See we are now linked with Morelos at Rangers ability wise he could easily make the step up to the Premiership

Trippier for that money is a great buy personal of we had paid double that I’d still say it was decent if a little heavy priced…but that price,good good business,a LB would great,a CB and striker a must, and a good defensive midfield grafter if I’m being a little greedy! Lol

Am I right in thinking we paid 15 million for Lewis? If so it makes the Trippier signing even more of a steal. 12 million -albeit with add-ons- for proven, homegrown quality is an excellent piece of work. In addition, not being hung out to dry by other clubs who know we are desperate with money to burn is a fantastic bit of work by Mandy & Co!

Now get our fastest players to run at the defense and get taken down as Trips is a dead ball specialist.
And three and for me the most important part of getting rid of Ashley and everything he didn’t do or fcuked up at our club.
Change the damn kit, let’s go back to smaller strips.

I have an update on what's happening with my treatment for prostate cancer.

Last week, my oncologist called me late in the day and said he thought it was best to terminate my treatment with radium 223 dichloride because it was having such a negative effect on my health - specifically my digestive system.

I had completed 3 of the planned 6 infusions.

They had looked at the bone scans and three CAT scans I had early last week, and they showed no signs of the cancer spread being slowed or stopped: in fact, it was continuing to spread and my PSA account continued to rise.

The only treatment left now is to go back and have another bout of chemotherapy with docetaxel being the medication used.

I understand this will be a 7-month job with 10 sessions 3 weeks apart - almost double my first chemo treatment in Apil 2017, when I has 6 treatmnts.

The problem I have is that I'm in a very poor physical state right now, due to my digestive system being basically torn apart by the radium 223.

The radium 223 has leaked into my digestive system and caused me to have severe diarrhea, nausea, and heartburn, and it was (is) very serious.

They said it was too dangerous to proceed with the radium 223 treatment, with little benefit being shown.

I am also suffering from severe exhaustion, basically, because I have zero testosterone, and all the treatments I've had for the cancer, have further lessened the energy available to me.

It reminds me of the saying that if cancer doesn’t kill you - the treatment will (laugh).

It will probably take up to 8 weeks to get back to a physical state where I can start chemotherapy, and that's where I am now, but the cancer continues to spread in the bones.

I've also been put in touch with the dietitian from UNC Healthcare, who will help me get back my health - she is very helpful.

So that's where it stands it's been quite a journey over 12 years and I think I've had almost every treatment available.

It has really taken a toll on my body and on my energy, but that's where it stands and obviously, I'll do the best I can in the upcoming months with chemo and hope I can get through it.

It is as it is - and another challenge in life.
