Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie is reporting that Newcastle have agreed on a fee with Atletico Madrid for Kieran Trippier. The deal is reportedly for £12m plus add-ons with the 31-year-old due to travel to Newcastle for his medical.
BREAKING: Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid for Kieran Trippier. The deal is for around £12m plus add-ons. The England international is set to travel to Tyneside for his medical and become the first signing of the Saudi-backed regime #NUFC w/@PeteGravesTV

This report is also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano who has given his signature ‘here we go’ which generally means this one is all but over the line.
Kieran Trippier’s set to join Newcastle from Atletico Madrid as expected, done deal and here-we-go. ??? #NUFC
New ownership first signing completed after negotiations started in December.

Trippier was identified early on as a top target. The right-back has a great relationship with manager Eddie Howe from their Burnley days. While the add-ons could amount to quite a bit, this is an outstanding first signing of the new era.
Newcastle have moved swiftly for their top targets. We reportedly also have tried to bring Lille center-back Sven Botman in for around £30m though the French club is reluctant to sell in this window.
Newcastle may work to test their resolve but if they prove resolute, there are numerous other targets Newcastle can pursue. Newcastle may give Lille a little more time before moving on.
Getting Trippier in so early in the window means he will be integrated into the squad in time for our next Premier League match against Watford in 11 days. While he may not play, he will get his first glimpse of a sold-out St. James’ Park this weekend for our FA Cup tie against Cambridge.

We need a younger Fernandez type CB, someone who has awareness, confidence qnd good ball control, basically the opposite of Lascelles.

Comment #45Looks like our owners haven`t given up on Botman either , going in with a higher bid of 37.5M.
Lille are skint so i hope they will buckle with a bigger offer on the table.

Comment #46Long time lurker, used to comment many moons ago, but still visit the blog daily and scroll through the comments, really happy to see Trippier come in, one player I’m shocked we’ve not seen linked is Marc Roca, Bayern signed him in 2020 and he’s hardly started for them and can’t get into that midfield spot ahead of Kimmich or Goretzka, good deep lying ball playing midfielder in a similar mould to Mikel Merino, think he’s easily be available on loan.

Comment #51Aah lads Botis v v good, I kinda want him badly now. He playsva very weird style he doesn’t man Mark at all, he just stands off constantly moving on his own I the box and colouring around for moment, then attacks the ball not the player. He is literally everywhere in the box.

Comment #59I’m kinda gobsmacked we only paid £12m.
I thought it would be £20m plus and some thought that was way to much.
Quality player, can actually defend, strong fit lad, decent delivery and quality on the ball.
Excellent first signing, especially the price.

Comment #62Never pleasing some people is there!
It’s quite surreal that some on here expect us to be signing the same calibre players that Man City would be recruiting now…doesn’t matter that Man City have 10 years advantage over us with the experience and recruitment of 5 world class managers behind them…and of course continuous CL participation for the last 7 or so years.
Whether you think Trippier is a world beater or not, he’s
a) better than anything we have
b) the start of the revolution
c) sending a signal he believes in the project and believes we will stay up
So long as we buy / loan better players than we have now, and we stay up, then it’s job done…we’ll have the likes of Mbappe in our squad in four or five years time…but for now players like Trippier with all their experience and know how are exactly what we need.
Onwards and upwards

It depends which articles you read or believe, i read Botman would prefer the PL, though Milan were meant to be sniffing around.

Comment #68Mund, I’d stay well clear of Aubameyang, have a few lads I work with who are Arsenal fans who’ve already said we’d be doing them a favour, they’ve said he’s been off the boil and on the decline for the past 18 months and is one of the last few remaining of the clique that Arteta wanted out of the club, don’t think he’d come to us either way, but if he did it would be for purely selfish reasons and I doubt he’d be up for the fight when or if the going gets really tough over the next few months.

Comment #75The add on’s are only expected to be around £3m so we got him for a total of £15m and that has to be the best deal of the window so far imo.
Craig Hope
Fee of £12m plus add-ons (tbc but believe to be around £3m). Told Trippier will become highest earner on around £100k p/w. Now expected on Tyneside for medical. Will be big statement by owners, current England regular as their first signing #nufc

Comment #78Wouldn’t surprise me if negotiations with Trippier involved some sort of use of the fact he could start things off. Like a promise he’d be the first one in and almost ‘the poster boy’ for the new Newcastle going forward. That or he’s guaranteed top wage earner. Signing him is huge to try and convince other targets to come on board.
That or whoever our negotiation currently is, done a superb job at selling him the vision and the dream. Paired with the fact he supposedly wanted to come back to England.
