Newcastle Now Tracking Defender With Same Agents As Trippier And Wood – Report

Newcastle are closing in on our second signing of this window in Burnley’s Chris Wood. With Callum Wilson out until March, Newcastle are bereft of options upfront so the 30-year-old will be a welcome addition.

Wood was on his way to Newcastle on Tuesday evening for a medical. The move has progressed rapidly with Newcastle’s interest not reported until after our FA Cup defeat to Cambridge this past weekend.

The Mail’s Craig Hope is reporting that Newcastle have triggered the striker’s £25m release clause which Newcastle may have been alerted to by the player’s agency, CAA Base, when signing Kieran Trippier.

Hope is also reporting that Burnley boss Sean Dyche is deeply disappointed that Wood chose to leave to a relegation rival. However, Newcastle represent an outstanding opportunity for the New Zealand international.

Hope has also added the name of Torino’s Gleison Bremer (shown above) to Newcastle’s list of center-back targets. The Brazilian is also represented by CAA Base and has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham recently.

The 24-year-old joined Torino from Mineiro in 2018 for just under £5m. It took him a while to find his feet in Italy but has since made 96 appearances with an impressive 17 goal contributions (12 goals and 5 assists).

Bremer is a no-nonsense defender who is capable with the ball at his feet. He is outstanding in the air and possesses great pace. He has also captained Torino over the past few months in the absence of reported Newcastle target Andrea Belotti, who is out with a hamstring injury.

Bremer is a bit of a Bramble. Good all rounder but doesnt have 90 mins of footy in him. Loses concentration, then drops howlers. I would avoid this one

How is wood different from Carroll? Stylistically speaking

Seems a bad deal to me
20m is a shocking fee to pay for a player going through a goal drought

Sounds good don’t know owt about him but forming partnerships with agents and their companies can pay massive dividends look at wolves and 3 from the same firm can’t be coincidence

Building trust between agents and owners can never be a bad thing.

But they mustn’t overstep and offer up someone not suitable, that will be key for this one.

Despite most opinions on here I think Wood will help bring the best out of St Max, suddenly defenders need to be very concerned about the ball in, which Maxi does put in from time to time, should help to take a man away from him and he can dribble at a single man better, or if they double team him get the cross or cut back in.

Think its a great signing myself

Adamn_92 – could only find one response. I don’t really have a problem with it. From the outside, I reckon we’d be laughing if another club paid £20m+ for Wood. Would smack of desperation because their squad is absolutely crap and they’re desperate to survive. Which is all true…

They can laugh at us now (don’t blame them) but we’ll have the last laugh.

Wood is a good signing. Getting a PL proven striker in was going to be almost impossible this window. Would definitely not cost that much if Burnley were safe mid table or resigned to relegation.

What might look like a goal drought to some, looks like a goal glut to us when you take Wilson out of the reckoning.

Anybody notice how Newcastle United are termed PIF. Manure Citeh and Chelsea are named accordingly rather than by their owners. Totally derogatory. I hope so much we stay up and shove it right up the media, the so called elite clubs and anybody else that hates us

Taking money out of the situation as it matter little now.

Will he sign for us, yes.
Is he proven at premier League level yes.
Is he worthy of a squad place yes.

If it was a loan deal we wouldn’t worry. Also we got trippier for a steal.
We need more still though. He’s a reliable option but alone is not the answer.

We don’t need a world beater, we just need someone who can grab 10-12 goals and make sure we finish 17th. Wood can do that for us I reckon.
