Newcastle Now Tracking Defender With Same Agents As Trippier And Wood – Report

Newcastle are closing in on our second signing of this window in Burnley’s Chris Wood. With Callum Wilson out until March, Newcastle are bereft of options upfront so the 30-year-old will be a welcome addition.

Wood was on his way to Newcastle on Tuesday evening for a medical. The move has progressed rapidly with Newcastle’s interest not reported until after our FA Cup defeat to Cambridge this past weekend.

The Mail’s Craig Hope is reporting that Newcastle have triggered the striker’s £25m release clause which Newcastle may have been alerted to by the player’s agency, CAA Base, when signing Kieran Trippier.

Hope is also reporting that Burnley boss Sean Dyche is deeply disappointed that Wood chose to leave to a relegation rival. However, Newcastle represent an outstanding opportunity for the New Zealand international.

Hope has also added the name of Torino’s Gleison Bremer (shown above) to Newcastle’s list of center-back targets. The Brazilian is also represented by CAA Base and has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham recently.

The 24-year-old joined Torino from Mineiro in 2018 for just under £5m. It took him a while to find his feet in Italy but has since made 96 appearances with an impressive 17 goal contributions (12 goals and 5 assists).

Bremer is a no-nonsense defender who is capable with the ball at his feet. He is outstanding in the air and possesses great pace. He has also captained Torino over the past few months in the absence of reported Newcastle target Andrea Belotti, who is out with a hamstring injury.

I think Burnley getting their money 24 hours later and crippling us for the Watford game and giving us less of a chance getting three points will be okay with them.

jimiley – I hadn’t noticed that before but that is bullshit for sure. Don’t recall that happening before when clubs had new owners but I might not have noticed it then either.

    It’s totally pointless journalism.

“Bremer is a bit of a Bramble. Good all rounder but doesnt have 90 mins of footy in him. Loses concentration, then drops howlers. I would avoid this one”

He has played 1,649 minutes in 19 Serie A games this season, only two games where he did not play 90 minutes, more than every Newcastle player has played this season — Has 2 goals and 1 assist and only 3 yellow cards – In 7 of those 19 games he was named as Captain —

    G, your full of crap.

Depending on who we sign, I think he could grab 10-12 goals in our remaining fixtures. That’s not impossible for him.

The Toon better move there butts if they want more new blood playing on Saturday.
Isn’t the deadline for weekend games Thursday’s for new signings?
Thought there was some clause in place.

    toonbrother,

Because you asked, stats are below, I’ve even been kind to Carroll and went back a few years to negate his additional 3 years in age he has on both Wilson and Wood:

    Wood – From 2017 to 2022: 54 Goals – 8 Assists
    Wilson – From 2017 to 2022: 52 Goals – 18 Assists
    Carroll – From 2014 to 2022: 26 Goals – 9 Assists (Includes 1 of each in Championship)

Wood will be another good strong professional voice in the dressing room, invaluable in our position. Ignore all the vile anti nufc/PIF hatred, it’s pure jealousy that we’ve got what they all wanted. The backing of KSA and their Trillions.

They can all go and …… themselves. Starting keeping a date stamped diary of the hatred to throw back at the spineless no nowts when they are crawling up our backsides at the top of the league. 😀

Karma is great, have you seen the Garry Neville takedown of agbongotnosweets doing the rounds on Twitter? Hilarious. 😆

Thanks TDF, hard keeping up sometimes with the rules back home.

On woods another thing I just read.

Only Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has won more aerial duels than Chris Wood since the start of the 2019/20 season.

Agbonlahor is a total joke of a pundit and I’ve no idea what problem he has with us. Total waste of space though and I’ll not click on any of his articles from now on. I won’t give him the attention he craves. Useless.

On that note, off to bed…

AC always played for the shirt, in the few chances he had to play last season he improved the team could have done a job for us now.

No doubt in my mind that was had a big ruck with TGFG.

Burnley are fecked as they have some new American investment into their soccer ball club which has been questioned as to its financial validity.

Surprised Ashley hasnt targeted picking them up as a bargain.

With all the striker flops teams have bought in the league for £20m or more, it is hilarious how pundits and other fans are trying to claim this is overpriced. I’d absolutely love it if Wood has an incredible half season and bangs in 10+ for us and his goals keep us up.

Andy Carroll was a serial crock, he was a million miles away from being a prolific or even consistent Premier League striker, he had just over half a Premier League season were his star shone bright, other than that he has been nothing more than a leach on clubs wage bills and an ever present on their recovery tables, people can be nostalgic and bleat on about him being “one of our own” it means literally nothing if he can’t do what he was paid to do and thats score and create goals as a striker, he contributed little to nothing for us in his second spell, you want passion and someone who plays for the shirt? Give some bloke with a season ticket in the Gallowgate a shirt and stick him on the pitch.

    Canny evening really

Chris Maguire enjoyed a memorable return to the Stadium of Light as his hat-trick enabled Lincoln to beat 10-man Sunderland 3-1.

Maguire was released by Sunderland boss Lee Johnson last summer, and the Scottish striker celebrated the first of his three goals in front of his former boss, who was later sent to the stands for his involvement in a pitchside fracas

I hope Wood gets all the key goals, just to irritate the section of the media who despise us, even more. Agbonlabore is being ridiculous. It’s business. Its a release clause, and we are paying over the odds. It’s a legal contract clause and we have met it’s (inflated) terms because we need to. The man is howling at the moon. When heard the Wood connection first I was underwhelmed, but it makes a bag of sense, and far more than the young French lad who I don’t think it anything to write home about ftom the Dennis views I’ve had.

By the way, Mandy and Co have bought very shrewdly, assuming we get him. Two really solid attitions.

It also shows that we can do business, once the selling club is reasonably interested in doing business, ie not Lille.

It’s been a disappointing AFCON so far. Opening game was 2-1, we had two 0-0’s today and every other game has been 1-0. Not exactly entertaining. I hope it livens up a bit in the next few days.

Wonder if we can find any hidden gems playing in this tournament for us to buy?

    Great stat from ESPN…

‘54-year-old Kazuyoshi Miura has signed a contract with fourth-tier Japanese club Suzuka Point Getters.

He made his professional debut in 1986 and is three years older than PSG’

Can’t believe this bloke is STILL playing! We probably would have ended up signing him if he hadn’t just joined the Point Getters.

Do we just keep Gayle on the books incase we get relegated? As whenever we need a reserve striker he doesn’t get a game… I’m not sure what the point is. He’s proven himself to be a good goal poacher at a lesser level. But I don’t think he’s ever had enough game time in the premier League. Maybe it’s just a case that he’s not cut out to play alone up top as he can’t be a target man.

Wasn’t too excited about Wood initially but upon further consideration I think he might just be the right centre forward for us. So I have changed my mind and think he can lead the line well and get a few goals.

Just need him to score a few to keep us up. Get the world top players in during the summer.

Personally, I’d sell Gayle in this window assuming we can get Wood and another striker to go along with Wilson.

Gayle probably wants to be playing at this stage of his career and I’m sure he could do a job for a top half Championship side. If we do happen to get relegated then we can just sign someone else.

I really think it’s time to be out with the old and in with the new to freshen up our aging squad.

For me, Chris Wood is the perfect start. He should be in for Watford and provide us a presence in the middle for crosses. Hes 31 or so, hence wont interefere with future plans. Can help us in the championship too God forbid. Overall, we need 3 or 4 strikers in the squad. We got 2 after Wood (not counting Gayle who we need to ship out due to injuries). We still have space in the squad for one or two more, whenever possible, now or in the summer.

EPL to announce an immediate ban on heading the ball until the end of this season. A spokesman for the big six said ‘we need to protect the players.’

‘Clubs will need to reevaluate signings, wingbacks and dead ball specialists supplying aerial target men are now consigned to history.’

Asked if this new initiative had anything to do with Newcastle United’s recent transfer activity the spokesman declined to comment.
