Chris Wood May Be Expensive But An Excellent Acquisition

News tonight from various sources, including here, that Chris Wood is on his way to Newcastle to undergo a medical and sign along the dotted line.

Sky Sports is reporting Newcastle have triggered the New Zealander’s release clause in his contract, thought to be in the region of £20M.

And it’s interesting that Keith Downie is reporting Burnley didn’t think the Magpies would trigger Wood’s release clause since the release figure is so high:

That’s what rich and ambitious owners can do, and we just had to get a striker in for the Watford game on Saturday, to have a decent chance of winning.

And we cannot think Burnley manager Sean Dyche is too happy either, but he has said a few times it’s not his decision when players are sold.

And we noticed on Saturday that we hardly won any high balls in the penalty box against Cambridge United on Saturday, so a big tall striker is a great acquisition for us.

He can get on the end of those perfect crosses from new signing Kieran Trippier.

And a coincidence – Chris Woods’ very first club was Cambridge FC, based in Cambridge, New Zealand.

So while the fee seems high we haven’t got a lot of time to get new players in, and in any case, the big, tall, and powerful Woods should link up well with Callum Wilson, when he is fit again.

We also believe a younger, less experienced striker could well be signed in this window – maybe Reims’ 19-year-old French striker Hugo Ekitike.

This is a signing we needed, and we are sure Newcastle fans will be welcoming the big man to Newcastle tomorrow – he can score the priceless goals that can keep us up this season.

Howay The Lads!!

Max is the best dribbler I’ve n the world. And very little end product
A couple of goals a season and of course no assists

Wood is great foil for Maxi. Perhaps he would do well in the 10 position to pick up the knock downs.

Murphy RW and Fraser LW to get balls into the box.

I know we are always teased by a fancy foreign player but look at the Toons history in the last 20 or 30 years at least

The strikers who do well for us big guys who dominate in the air Shearer, Ferdinand, Ba, Carroll and Rondon

Let’s get it wide and cross it in for the big man and watch St James Park go wild when it hits the back of the net

If it isn’t a panic buy, then it must be planned. So how far down the list was he, that it’s just happening now? As for defending his goal tally by saying its down to Burnley’s style, surely banging it into the box at every opportunity is playing to his strengths?

Only time will tell on this one.

Agent Wood, ramming the ball in our net and row Z’ing all his chances at the other, culminating in an overwhelming crescendo of cheers and crowd chanting as he leaves the pitch and enters the ‘home’ changing room after Burnley beat us last game of the season, keeping them up by a point.

    What a scenario.

This guy isn’t my 1st, 2nd 3rd..12th choice but I’ll extend the same welcome to him I do any player that arrives at St. James’. We need to give the lad a chance anyways and just see how it goes.

(rich) beggars cant be choosers at the moment that’s for sure!

I think the owners this time last week would of thought by now we would of welcomed one but it’s wasn’t to be. They will 100% bring in a CB but with the difficulties so far in negotiations who knows when. They are working hard tho and will be all the way through the window. Still got hope on Botman:

I’ll bet a pound to a pinch of the brown stuff that our defenders are clapping there hands that Wood is coming.

They’ve faced him and know how tough a nut he is to handle.

In Wood and Trippier we’ve got two Prem experienced players almost guaranteed to give us a minimum 7/10 to 8/10 performance every game – exactly what we need.

As carltoon said – well done to the recruitment team.

Just goes to show how much the Journo`s actually know, and that includes BSer Romano.
From absolutely nowhere Wood is on a train for his medical to sign for us.
Not a peep from the so called ITKs,
Foot em, none of them are worth the air time or printing space.
No doubt Jordan will have something to say about it tomorrow, all about the money.

Interesting that Liam Kennedy reporting that he understands there was no release clause? Instead, he thinks Burnley owners have had a change of heart. Not all new owners are great. Glad we have our current owners

Signing that 19 year old French boy might not be such a bad idea if we have someone like Wood

Also being 19 means he doesn’t need to be included in the squad ? So adds a bit of depth

Totally agree that our defenders will be stoked Wood is playing for Newcastle.

He will also be a great asset helping our defence out at set pieces and corners, therefore making us less susceptible at conceding sloppy goals.

Having Wood in the side gives us so many more options with regards to style of play.
