Chris Wood is expected to complete his move to Newcastle this afternoon. He traveled to Tyneside last night after his release clause was triggered. The 30-year-old Kiwi will become the second signing of the new era.
Newcastle are still working on a deal for 19-year-old Hugo Ekitike. However, the negotiations have been described as complicated with Reims wanting a lot for their prized striker.

While Newcastle had hoped to have a striker and a center-back in this week, it looks like it will only be Chris Wood through the door. Newcastle’s top target Sven Botman will likely be out of reach this window.
There could be some outgoing movement this week. The Athletic is reporting that local lad Elliot Anderson is set to join Luton Town on loan until the end of the season. The Championship club were rebuffed in their attempts to land the attacking midfielder last January.
Both Matty Longstaff and Rodrigo Vilca returned from their loan spells at the beginning of the month. Longstaff picked up an injury late last year and Eddie Howe has yet to take a look at the local midfielder.
Both Longstaff and Vilca are likely to head back out on loan. There is interest in Vilca from Alianza Lima in his native Peru. Newcastle currently have Kelland Watts, Lewis Cass, Jake Turner, Oisin McEntee, and Tom Allan out on loan.
This is an excellent decision to get Anderson some much-needed experience. He was kept behind last season. While he made his Newcastle United debut, he was handed only two substitute appearances by the season’s end.
