Newcastle Go After Top Central Midfielder – Challenge Red Devils

The Mail are reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in signing Leipzig central midfielder Amadou Haidara.

The 23-year-old is rated very highly and Manchester United have him as a target, so it may be difficult the youngster to join Newcastle.

He joined Leipzig back in 2019 from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg, and he has so far played 101 games for the German club, with 10 goals and 6 assists.

Haidara is reckoned to be one of the best up-and-coming footballers in world football.

He would not be available in January since he is currently away on International duty with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Haidara has let people know that Manchester United were his favorite club as a boy, so if there is a decent offer from the Red Devils, it’s difficult to see how Newcastle can get this one over the line.

The very fact Newcastle are trying, shows the level of ambition of our new owners.

It’s been reported he has a £33M release clause in his contract, and it seems the only way Newcastle can beat out the Red Devils is by outbidding them and then persuading the player to come to Newcastle, the richest club in the world.

That’s even though at the moment, we are still second-bottom of the Premier League.

We will keep our eye on this one, and we do have all month to sign the player, but as Neil points out – the summer may be a more likely timeframe to bring him in.

What do you think about this?

Wood is a terrific signing in the circumstances. We need someone up front who can play this weekend without having to acclimatise and we need players who wont be disruptive or cause problems. I’m really confident that we’ll sign the right players this month and it’s a hell of a long time since any of us could say that.

    WLtoon,
Burnley fan seemed a canny lad, shame for them. But someone made a canny point today and I’m sure I said the same thing yesterday. It was mentioned that he only has three goals. But Burnley have regressed massively this year with Tarkowski and Mee not looking good either. We’re the perfect example of only being able to expect players to fight a relegation battle for so long before despair kicks in. The Burnley players have obviously had enough and I bet he can’t get out of there quick enough, I bet he’ll bust a gut here. Also someone posted that he gets the majority of his goals in the second half of the season, I had a hunch of that from playing FPL and the reason I knew he gets about 12 a season. I might have a bet he gets 10 for us this season, he owes me anyway after I had £100 on Gayle to be top scorer in the championship 😀

Concentration on the article rather than the comments about the worth of Wood in our owners planning, l find it highly amusing Amanda is running rings around Man U.
Just buy the dude and block Man Us forward plans. He can even remains at his current club until we are good and ready to use the lad.

Do you sense a lot of panic in very low places? I can!

Surprised we never ended up bidding for Coady (or at least we don’t appear to have). Seems the most logical signing.

    Mund,

I was thinking a mid-table side would be an ideal selling club as they’ve no risk of going down and are unlikely to push for Europe. Perfect time to sell and reinvest; however I’ve just seen they are actually doing quite well so probably fancy their chances of Europe. Never mind so!

    Raj,

Burnley also have new owners but by all accounts they are not very ambitious, so maybe you are right, players like Wood and Tarkowski do want out, it`s quite clear Wood couldn`t get out of there quick enough.
There seems to be a bad atmosphere at the club atm which is strange under new owners.
For me Wood gives us another option, but that option will mean we will be playing hoofball, like Burnley.
Burnley were terrible when we played them, they played to Woods strengths and have done while he is in the team.
Although points are the most important thing at this moment in time, i would like to think we can be a bit more varied in our play than just hoofing the ball into the box at every opportunity, which in time will be very predictable, teams will know exactly how to play us.
Ie back Wood, like i do all new signings, the lad must be on a bloody high joining us. Good for him.

People thought Tripps was a statement signing, he is, or was, just wait til we hear what the greedy six and their crony journo`s have to say if we pull this deal off.
Jeez,, incredible signing that would be.

Dharmesh Sheth of SkySports seems to think that our interest in Ekitike has now advanced to talks with the club and we’re hoping to try and get him in before Watford also. Can’t see it myself but would be delighted if it happened.

I’ve never rated Wood and thought Leeds did excellent business to get £15M from Burnley at time but that he fitted into their main style and therefore was worth it for them

I suppose when his release clause was set no one involved saw any chance that a relegation rival would be prepared or have funds to pay out £20M for a player approaching 30 yet here we are

I do wonder did Howe actively want him or has hr had to be very pragmatic in accepting that a change of style for next few months is a price well worth paying in what are proving to be difficult circumstances

Wood isn’t just a big brute of a throwback of course and does have some limited touch and passing ability ( not as good as Big Andy in his prime) and is an honest player but did anyone envisage that we would be paying out this sum for this level of player when we were taken over?

Yes it would be over the odds in many cases in a sellers market but even after as frustrating a weekend Wood wasn’t in my thoughts unless maybe as a deadline day emergency signing when we had run out of options

Anyway I am happy to get 100% behind Wood and hope that we can get best out of him over next few months especially as he hasn’t had a poor injury or disciplinary record over the years even for a physical side like Burnley – might change now he plays for us of course – could be marked man for Refs

Price does seem steep but it’s a needs must and if we do stay up then it wil have been worth every penny

He should be able to keep us higher up pitch and bring some other players into game but as we experienced on Saturday they can’t afford to be as profligate with chances as they were then and in other games

Trusting that there are other options still being actively pursued and feel a lttle happier about our chances against Watford but we need to gel quickly

    Adam,

Iv`e only done the DW scouting thing watching Ekitike but he looks a bit fragile for the PL.
He has pace and a few tricks but i`m not sure he could hack it.
A few KFC bargain buckets to bulk him up a bit might work.

There seems to be genuine interest in him from a number of clubs and very positive noises about him, comparing him to the likes of Henry, Trezeguest and even the next Mbappe. Who’s giving those comparisons though i don’t know….

He seems well thought of and a genuine talent so I imagine if we did get him he’s very much being seen as one for the future. He’ll get minutes and game time but i’d imagine he’d be behind Wood and a fit again Wilson. Probably be someone we gradually introduce. It’s nice to be in a position where we can potentially snap up exciting prospects early before they flourish.

He’s only 19 and we just signed Wood, so that tells me he wouldn’t be the striker we’re expecting to score the goals and get us out of trouble. Very much one for the future which I see no issue with. Get in early before we miss out on a future star.

Spot on Onmeed re “wealthiest club in the world” …we have a woeful training ground and pretty bad players. We couldnt beat Cambridge at the weekend.

Maybe in 5 years with a class leading training centre and buying 50mill players we can say that, otherwise its bunkum.

Cant be bad if we are paying 30M for a lad who we see as one for the future , it`s bound to get up the noses of a few of the greedy 6 . oh the pain they must feel 🙂

Like every player who joins the club they get my full backing , i just think this lad will end up in the ` we took a punt but it didn`t turn out well for him` category.
