Newcastle Inching Closer To Second Striker Signing As Details Of Deal Emerge – Report

Newcastle continue to work on multiple deals this Wednesday evening. The push currently is to bring in two center-backs along with Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. The two center-backs being targeted at the moment appear to be Diego Carlos and Benoit Badiashile.

The Telegraph reported earlier today that an improved bid of £28m has been offered for Carlos. While some reports in Spain say Sevilla have rejected it, that has not been confirmed domestically.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth is reporting that both Ekitike and Badisashile are keen to come to Tyneside. He believes that Newcastle are inching towards an agreement for Ekitike per a report that can be heard here.

Importantly, Sheth is being told that the 19-year-old wants the move. Newcastle are willing to offer a whopping £27m plus £3m in add-ons for the Frenchman to be paid in installments over the next five years.

Ekitike will not return on loan to Reims but join Newcastle’s first team if the deal can get completed. It looks promising as Sheth is reporting the two clubs are very close to reaching an agreement.

Newcastle appear to have made significant progress on multiple fronts over the past 24 hours. It was just last night that they triggered Chris Wood’s release clause with the 30-year-old set to be unveiled imminently.

No idea on most of the guys we are linked with but all are looking like an improvement. Just a slight worry that we get a Marveux rather than a Cabaye. Wood I like as it weakens Burnley, centerbacks have to be the priority though surely.

Whether or not Ekitike contributes to keeping us up, this really would be a statement signing. The highest scoring teenager across the top European leagues. I can live with that.

This lad has great movement in the box to get ahead of defenders, would be pleased to sign him and show the world that we are also building a team for the future after staying up this season 🙂

We need to be signing the best 16-19 year olds before the Champs league clubs sign them. Dortmund are a good blue print

Wood might be good for the likes of Willock running beyond him. And a few others.

Really hope Trippier into Wood gets us goals.

I think Wood will be great for Willock, Willock late runs have been missing, Wood holding it up and causing chaos could play into Willock’s hands

They should offer £35 mill for Costa. If it’s true they raised the bid from 25mill to 28mill that’s chickenshit. There isn’t the luxury of time this window to be tinkering. It’s clear Sevilla don’t really want to sell so NUFC need to make a final offer which will clinch the deal or kill it if not accepted and we move on.

Supposedly we stuck 35 crosses into the box in our last match, If we manage just half that with Wood loitering around the box, he’ll bag a goal or two 100%.

Not wanting to be negative but we have Trippier 1 week at club, woods training as from Thursday? And possibly 2 others signed by Friday noon. I’m concerned how all could be integrated into team for Saturday afternoon for a match were everyone will have to be in sync to beat Watford. My guess will be we start with woods and Trippier but no one else even if they are signedd

Regarding Willock, I was having a similar discussion with my old man about that very subject, he said that maybe this is what he needs, someone who can occupy defenders and open up space for him and others, would be interesting to see if that plans out, but don’t think we are currently in the position to be able to experiment to that extent, obviously something may click in training, but translating that from training to match day is totally different.

That chance in the first half against Cambridge that ASM fluffed in the air Wood would just gobble that up

Same with the chance Murphy should have tapped in

He would have scored a few against Man utd looking forward to having someone who just smashes a ball none of this scuffed or poorly taken shots

Charnley, you on about the ASM header where he just threw himself at it like a wild salmon? Embarrassing that, even as a fan I had to laugh, for me that as well as many other things are the reason why ASM will never be a top level player, completely inconsistent.

No worries about wood and trips integrating bucket loads of exp and prem exp at that… Presumably those from foreign leagues will be introduced slower unless they’ve got champs league exp and a marked upgrade on what we have.
