Newcastle continue to work on multiple deals this Wednesday evening. The push currently is to bring in two center-backs along with Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. The two center-backs being targeted at the moment appear to be Diego Carlos and Benoit Badiashile.
The Telegraph reported earlier today that an improved bid of £28m has been offered for Carlos. While some reports in Spain say Sevilla have rejected it, that has not been confirmed domestically.
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth is reporting that both Ekitike and Badisashile are keen to come to Tyneside. He believes that Newcastle are inching towards an agreement for Ekitike per a report that can be heard here.
?? "The player does want to come to Newcastle."
?? "He's very highly rated."

Importantly, Sheth is being told that the 19-year-old wants the move. Newcastle are willing to offer a whopping £27m plus £3m in add-ons for the Frenchman to be paid in installments over the next five years.
Ekitike will not return on loan to Reims but join Newcastle’s first team if the deal can get completed. It looks promising as Sheth is reporting the two clubs are very close to reaching an agreement.
Newcastle appear to have made significant progress on multiple fronts over the past 24 hours. It was just last night that they triggered Chris Wood’s release clause with the 30-year-old set to be unveiled imminently.

Comment #167I remember the last time Norwich were in the prem, Cantwell by himself ran his midfield and made ours look like Sunday morning half drunk local league.
If he can get back to that standard then he would be a good signing.
Just an opinion, don’t kill me.

Comment #171If the Cantwell link is accurate it’s another shrewd signing; a player who knows the league and will want to prove himself and was already up for a relegation scrap. If we go down, he knows the Championship as well and will help us bounce straight back.

Agree he is very similar to Grealish they also seem to have taken similar paths both have had ups and downs relegation, promotion with similar stats in terms of chances created
Not really sure why he is out the team though? Hasn’t really played this season which would be a worry especially as Buendia was sold you would expect him to be the main man
We don’t have anyone on our books like him that can link the play and move with the ball at pace ASM could actually have some serious competition on his side if we sign Cantwell because he can do the fancy tricks but actually passes the ball!! Could be a good signing¬!

Comment #182Regarding Cantwell, the Norwich fans I’m friends with down here admit he’s got the talent but won’t be sad to see him go. They seem to think this is the latest in a few ‘tantrums’ he’s had and he’s lost the desire. Also disappointed as he’s a Dereham lad so hoped he’d be giving it his all for his local club, not having tantrums.
I can see their frustration as he’s from the area so you’d hope for him to at least be professional until he got his move. But they seem to think he wanted to leave after his first season in the prem and been unhappy and moody since.
I think he’d be a good buy for us as the move should give him that drive and determination again. A talented young English midfielder for £15-£20m is again pretty good business too.

Comment #183In those highlights I heard a lot of ‘back in the team’ suggesting he keeps getting injured or dropped.
No doubt some quality there but clearly inconsistent.
Maybe a change of scenery would sort that out. Perhaps Eddie can coach him.
Worth the risk or just wait till they go down and he worth only £5-10m in the summer.

Comment #184His absences from the team when he’s not injured are probably due to these ‘tantrums’ my mates mentioned.

I’d say so, I think his head was turned by Liverpool interest last time Norwich were in the league. Probably wants a bigger challenge and not to keep yo-yoing from championship to premier league. A move here could fire him up to his best and to push on with the ambition and project we have going forward.

Comment #189I really don’t see why everyone’s getting so excited by Cantwell…he’s got an attitude problem, he’s 7 stone wet-through, shown some signs of promise in the championship but never done anything in the Prem…and yet we’re all saying “yeah…let’s spend 10 million on him and see how we get on”
Makes the £20 million we’ve just spent on Wood look great value!
I have no problem over-paying…I have no problem hiring mercenaries, I have no problem paying massive wages to ensure we stay up…it’s been my mantra for the last 4 months, but I just don’t get why we should pay anything for someone who will NOT contribute towards us staying up and is not even by any standards a hidden jewel for the future…he’s championship quality at best.
IMO
I say concentrate on hiring the bodies that WILL contribute towards us staying up this year…the rest of the bigger picture can wait.
Onwards and upwards
Shake rattle and bank roll!
