Newcastle have launched a second bid for Sevilla center-back Diego Carlos according to The Telegraph’s Jason Burt. Here is the update from Burt on Twitter.

Our first bid, believed to be around £25m, was rejected with the 28-year-old playing over the weekend. While Burt doesn’t give an indication of what our new bid is, The Shields Gazette and talkSPORT are reporting that the improved bid is £28m.
Burt’s colleague, Luke Edwards, believes there is now optimism that a deal can be reached while suggesting it may even be before this weekend. The Premier League has clarified that players need to be registered by noon on Friday and not Thursday to play on Saturday.
So if Newcastle can reach an agreement by tonight for Carlos, he could be in with a chance of playing against Watford on Saturday. Here is the update from Edwards on Twitter.
As reported first by @JBurtTelegraph second bid in for Carlos has been made today. There is some optimism that progress will be made and hope is to get it done before the weekend but nothing agreed yet #nufc https://t.co/QOOVMO66U9

Newcastle should have striker Chris Wood confirmed by Thursday at the latest. He’ll follow Kieran Trippier as the second signing of the new era. The duo’s experience are exactly what Newcastle need to help stave off relegation.
However, center-back was identified as the main area of focus before the window opened. Newcastle have still yet to reach an agreement for any of their center-half targets. The plan remains to bring in two in this window.
Carlos appears to have usurped Sven Botman as our top target with Lille unwilling to do business this month. Negotiations also started for Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile. However, conflicting reports on the seriousness of the injury he suffered this weekend has put a deal in doubt.
