Video Of Wood’s First Day At Newcastle Reveals A Few Magpies Back In Training

Newcastle United have released the following short video of Chris Wood’s arrival on Tyneside. The video shows the striker undergoing his medical while meeting some of his new teammates.

The final part of the video shows Wood taking part in his first training session with the lads. Of note, Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, and Matty Longstaff were involved in the session.

Lascelles was not available against Cambridge as Eddie Howe was forced to field Emil Krafth and Fabian Schar as his center-back pairing. He should be available for Watford tomorrow. Though Schar and Ciaran Clark were not spotted in the short video.

Lewis has been ruled out until later in the month with the hamstring injury he suffered against Liverpool. It appears the left-back is on target to potentially make his return for the trip to Leeds next weekend. His return will provide a massive boost on the left.

It’s great to see Matty Longstaff back at Newcastle once again. His loan spell with Aberdeen was one to forget with just five appearances. He was recalled at the beginning of the month but had suffered an injury at the backend of his time in Scotland.

During his press conference for Cambridge, Eddie Howe revealed he hadn’t had a chance to take a look at the local lad. The 21-year-old is back involved and hopefully, Howe can find the best path forward for him.

I think wood is a solid signing, weakens a direct relegation rival he scores 10 per season for a poor Burnley side, tripper and st maxi ect will provide him with good service and i think his goals will keep us up this season, wood and Wilson upfront would be a great combo. need a new left back as digne would of been a solid signing, don’t understand why hes went to villa he will regret it in the long run. lewis and richie just dont cut it. need at least one centre back and a creative midfielder this window.

Whats happening with selling some players? we havent sold anyone and have tons of deadwood and championship players still on our books, need to get them off the wage bill really..

My team for weekend would be:

    ______________________Dubs_________________________
    Trippier______Schar____________Lascelles if fit___Manquillo
    Murphy_______Shelvey_______Joelinton_______Ritchie
    _____________Wood__________ASM

Trippier and Murphy will provide a lot of quality crosses on the wings and Murphy will help create space for Trips with his pace. Please no Ritchie at LB, but on the LW providing from that side for Wood, we’ve got maximum ammunition.

ASM playing off Wood, doing his thing and playing more advanced when Wood comes short for flicks and link up.

‘Digne said he had joined Villa because of Gerrard. “It was the main factor. I came here for the manager,” he said.’
