Last year, Newcastle added teenager Shaun Mavididi to the Academy. The promising young forward linked up with the U18s after leaving Arsenal. Hopefully, he’ll be one to breakthrough in the coming years.
The Mail is reporting that Newcastle may turn to Shaun’s older brother, Stephy, as an attacking option this month. The 23-year-old also started with Arsenal before signing for Juventus in 2018.
After not breaking through with Juve, Mavididi joined Ligue 1’s Montpellier in 2020 for around £3.5m. He has since bagged 15 goals playing primarily on the left wing but can also play as a striker.
The former England U20 international is rated at around £15m and is being tracked by both Brighton and Crystal Palace. Mavididi has 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 appearances this term.
Newcastle are currently working on a deal to land Reims’ teenage sensation Hugo Ekitike. The 19-year-old striker has been touted as a future superstar. Though the sample size is extremely small with just 18 first-team appearances.
With Chris Wood through the door, the need for another striker has been relaxed somewhat. However, Newcastle want to add another with Ekitike currently the preferred option. Though with him being only 19, maybe a third attacker could be on the agenda.
Mavididi could be seen as a potential economical option to come in as cover upfront. Ekitike will cost around £30m and a move may take towards the end of the window to complete. Especially with recent reports that PSG have entered the race.

Comment #4longstaff my feeling on this is a simple one hes a saleable asset, 3 year contract so we can get a good fee for him if he fails which he already has in my book, did shearer allow a bad injury stop him from playing to his best ability nope so how come longstaff who did not suffer the same injuries as shearer and a lot of other newcastle players over the season let the injury dictate how he preformed on the pitch, for a young lad hes as slow as a snail god I am 58 years old and i can outrun him, hes home grown but god he doesnt have the bottle in him hes not a gazza doesnt put his heart in it so all I think is that there putting him on a contract to get rid maybe summer or next year

Comment #6I’ve been pondering similar things that Barkel has mentioned. Do we have the finance in place to push the boat out yet (pay the extra 10-15m)? There haven’t been any new sponsorships announced or other cash injections that I can recall (maybe an overdraft facility).
We’ve seen how inaccurate the rumours about Trippier’s fee and who knows if the fee for Wood was actually anywhere near 20m. I wouldn’t believe any of the rumours/links as none of it is ever verified or ‘sources’ known.
Who knows, maybe PIF have said, avoid relegation and we will invest properly in the summer (unlikely but who actually knows, certainly none of these ITK’s)

Comment #10Alot of time in this very short window being spent chasing CB’s which isn’t our biggest weakness, how many goals has Ritchie or Karth being at fault for? Woodman then Darlow? Too many times to mention, Ferdi and Lascelles could still do job until the summer with Tripper and a decent LB which should be prioritised, where is the creativity or the legs in CM? Van de Beek and Haidara, with the Ajax LB would be more of a priority for me. .

Just roughly skimmed through. Sean Longstaff defensive stats actually not that bad. I would say middle of the pack among midfielders. Someone’s favorite Sissoko is just 14 tackles whole season, despite playing almost double amount of the time.

Not sure if that was aimed at my post but if it was, I wasn’t having a go at people putting links up. I don’t care whether they do or not. ‘If’ I read them the info just goes in one eye and out the other. I was using them in reference to the rest of my post.

Comment #20A lot of people saying we should just spend whatever are missing the point that it’s not your/our money that is being spent here and that they just spent £25m (if the media is to be believed) on Wood! So they’re obviously ok with paying over the market value if necessary. But these are still business people in charge of our club, they aren’t there to play fantasy football. They will want to get good deals for our club and for the PIF.

I was impressed with three of the Cameroon players tonight.
Aboubakar, who I think were after at some point.
Anguissa (Fulham?)
And Tolo who I know nowt about but who looks good at left back, big, strong, skillful and fast!
Also want to add Onana their GK as mentioned earlier by OP.

i agree with you its not our money why should we be held to ransom just because other teams know our owners are mega rich . its ok to pay top money for a player/players if they are really good but for other teams to hike the price up for lets say a £20 million player and they say you can have him for 40 million na not in my book time to move on IMO …

Give it a rest with the longstaff crap
There’s one reason I’d keep him and that’s for the season in the championship because if he is picked for the remaining games that’s where we are headed
Eddie howe is a second rate manager who hasn’t got the balls of a klopp pep g tuchel Conte or even arteta
He continually praises below average players who wouldn’t even make the top sixes reserve teams
As for 25 million for a 30 year old who has scored 3 goals this season just proves what a bunch of muppets we have in charge
They are clueless he can join gayle and longstaff and try to get us back up
If Howe and his team do not get 3 points at home in one of the most important games against watford bye bye epl
Eddie howe your days are numbered

Comment #34Tom – When a club doesn’t really want to sell, they’re bound to ask for silly money. Every player has their price. Sometimes the club will say a price, thinking it would put off the buying club but also wanting to make it clear they won’t stand in the player’s way, but then shift the goalposts again if the buying club says they’ll meet the price.
There are so many moving parts in these negotiations and the last thing the club wants is to appear to be a soft touch who will overpay. The two players we’ve wanted to sign so far have been sold for personal reasons and because we met a release clause, meaning both clubs did not want to sell and were pretty much forced into it.

Comment #35All I want for xmas (or in the next two weeks anyway) is a quality defensive midfielder who better protects our back four, a quality attacking midfielder who can speed up our transitional play resulting in better service for Wood & Co, and a centre back with quick feet and speed of mind.
Not asking too much is it!
