Last year, Newcastle added teenager Shaun Mavididi to the Academy. The promising young forward linked up with the U18s after leaving Arsenal. Hopefully, he’ll be one to breakthrough in the coming years.
The Mail is reporting that Newcastle may turn to Shaun’s older brother, Stephy, as an attacking option this month. The 23-year-old also started with Arsenal before signing for Juventus in 2018.
After not breaking through with Juve, Mavididi joined Ligue 1’s Montpellier in 2020 for around £3.5m. He has since bagged 15 goals playing primarily on the left wing but can also play as a striker.
The former England U20 international is rated at around £15m and is being tracked by both Brighton and Crystal Palace. Mavididi has 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 appearances this term.
Newcastle are currently working on a deal to land Reims’ teenage sensation Hugo Ekitike. The 19-year-old striker has been touted as a future superstar. Though the sample size is extremely small with just 18 first-team appearances.
With Chris Wood through the door, the need for another striker has been relaxed somewhat. However, Newcastle want to add another with Ekitike currently the preferred option. Though with him being only 19, maybe a third attacker could be on the agenda.
Mavididi could be seen as a potential economical option to come in as cover upfront. Ekitike will cost around £30m and a move may take towards the end of the window to complete. Especially with recent reports that PSG have entered the race.

Comment #42Tom – as you might have seen on the previous page, I acknowledged that there are people here who like the links here, just as there are some people refreshing NewsNow every few minutes, and others reading every tweet on Twitter. But it’s not for everyone.
Certainly the way I feel is that many of these links are just designed to provide revenue streams to companies and individuals who simply make things up. I very strongly feel that this is a big problem in society right now where people think this is acceptable behaviour and it goes way beyond football. Genuine journalism should be easily identifiable and should be rewarded, gossip should be labelled as such. As for gossip, any one of us on here could come up with gossip as relevant as some of these ITKs on Twitter.

Comment #47Being held to ransom is good…it means we’ll get the players we want because in essence the selling club are prepared to sell.
In the scheme of things if we pay 15-20 million too much on two or three players, and they then perform and we become more solid as a team, then we’ll be able to attract superstars sooner rather than later…so it’s a price worth playing.
Don’t think of the value in pounds and shillings and pence today…think of the value in building the platform for greatness.
Tomorrow is history in two days time…think big…think long term!

Comment #49Tom – there’s no reason for a team in France or Spain to refuse an offer just because it’s us. That’s a myth that certain fans are peddling because they want to feel that it’s us against the world and that somehow we’re superior. That’s just tribal bullshit in my opinion.
There’s no reason that these clubs should sell if they don’t want to sell and it’s very hard to get players in January for that reason. Some of the clubs we’re trying to buy from are still in Europe and trying to qualify for Europe next year too! Why would they want to sell one of their first team players unless they need to or they have a replacement who is at least as good?
Not saying you, but too many fans seem to think they’re playing a single player version of Football Manager and don’t even think from the perspective of the other clubs.

Comment #52Tom – Who is that? Because we’ve only signed 2 players and Wood was reported on very late. I’m sure I could absorb all of the stuff on social media and in the media, then pick what is believable and what isn’t. I just don’t believe ITKs at all. There are those who are smarter to filter out the rubbish and then just repeat the more likely stories but when something is official and revealed/leaked by a club, then it will go to the mainstream media such as BBC, Sky and others.

Yah, he still need to improve a lot of his game. These things are expected when you have almost non-existence coaching for more than two seasons. Anyway way, these weekly waiting for the matches is killing me. Never had these eagerness for match day to come since KK quit on Ashley.

Comment #57Tom – How is a club a greedy git when they don’t want to sell their player? Why should they sell for market value if they don’t want to? If a few clubs wanted to buy ASM now, would you suggest the club just sell him for £30m? Or should they say they want £70m and see what the other clubs offer?
When we sold Carroll for £35m, that wasn’t being greedy, that was just not wanting to sell a player and getting as much as possible for him.

Comment #62I think Sule is out of the question as he’s after Champions League football. It’s unlikely even next year we’ll qualify for that. Maybe push for Europe if summer recruitment goes well and we stay up this year. But Amanda and Mehrdad have stated slowly but surely many times, so Champions League is probably a good 2 or 3 seasons away.
Unless we tempt with a stupidly good wage, I think he’s out of reach. Even then, i’m not sure we should start tempting players here with ridiculously high wages. Not yet anyway. Can think about that next season after we stay up at the end of this one.

Comment #66carltoon – Multiple posts on here from some people. I don’t particularly like the arrogant tone that we’re rich and we can do whatever we like. I find that distasteful. I love that we’ve got the money to finally do some good things but I want to see the combative talk about players on the pitch not money.

Comment #67Think our center half we sign will either be Carlos, Botman late into the window when Lille lower their price because we won’t pay their over valuation or we go down our list a bit and I could see a Lloyd Kelly or Nat Phillips joining.

Comment #68Tom – SSN and BBC usually report when something is happening. If you think of the gap between the potential takeover being announced and actually happening, NewsNow was full of daily crap for journos and ITKs claiming that it was imminent. All total chancers hoping to claim the scoop if it did actually happen soon after.
Whereas the likes of BBC and SSN were quiet about it for a year or so. Then they reported on it again when it was really happening.
I prefer to read genuine news rather than made up stuff.

Comment #69Adam – Holding could be another option perhaps? Though I question whether Liverpool or Arsenal will want to sell/loan to us. Maybe if we’re out of the relegation zone in 2 weeks, then they may as well as that will then be pretty unlikely that we’ll go down.

Comment #72Yes tongue in cheek, we’re the richest club in the world, for God sake we’ve had years of disgraceful ownership, had to put up with the derision of the rest of the country, but as a fan base we just want the best we can get, maybe a small minority have went overboard, but the fans as whole are resigned to fighting for survival, and if we go down we’ll get back up.

Comment #80carltoon – as I’ve said, it’s just a few people doing it. But they’re often the most vocal. I’m not just referring to on this blog either.
My point was responding to a comment that other clubs don’t want to sell to us, which I think is rubbish. Just as I think it’s rubbish that the PL or referees are conspiring against us.
