Newcastle are continuing their work in this month’s transfer market and now there is a report that we have bid £21M for German U21 International center-back Felix Uduokhai.
The report is in Tuttomercatoweb and we have now been interested in several center-backs in this window, none of which we have been able to sign – yet.
The report is that Newcastle have been in contact with Augsburg in the last 24 hours and have bid €25M – around £20.8M for the left-footed center-back..
Napoli are also interested, but wait for it – Augsburg want to keep Uduokhai until the summer, but money talks.
The 24-year-old 6ft 4ins (according to Wikipedia) defender has a Nigerian father and German mother.
He has played 62 times for Augsburg with one goal since signing for them from Wolfsburg in 2020, after being on loan in the previous season.
He has played 6 times for the German U21 side and for the German Olympic side last year.
He cost Augsburg a reported €9M (£7.5M) so that would be a quick profit of €16M for the German club.
It’s a pity our former owner wasn’t Augsburg’s current owner – then the deal would go through lightning fast.
There is information on the Bundesliga website as reported by the Boot Room :
“There are very few left-footed center-backs at the highest level right now, and so Uduokhai is a rare gem in that sense,”
“The Augsburg defender has also played at left-back and in defensive midfield during his career already, but his home is in the center of defense.”
“Comfortable with both feet, the 23-year-old lines up on the left side of Augsburg’s central pairing to get the best use of his preferred foot.”
“That’s his key comparison to Bayern Munich’s Alaba, as well as his comfort in playing out from the back.”
“What makes Uduokhai a little different is that he stands 6’2?, making him a real presence at the back and at the other end of the pitch with his size and aerial ability.”
If we can get him for around £20M that would be a very decent deal.
What do you think?

Comment #48Fenham, great stuff re geordieness in general there. I was given the title of Honourary Geordie after a particularly heavy weekend on the sauce on Tyneside. I was very pleased :). I told my girlfriend when I got back to London. She wasn’t impressed. We split up a few weeks later I think 🙂 🙂

Comment #49The first weekend I moved to Newcastle, I didn’t know anyone so I just went out on my own. Ended up meeting some lads out on a stag do and they insisted I joined them. Ended up in a strip club with these guys! Blue something or other I think it was called…
Good lads!

Comment #54Its one of the most important games of the season for the Toon and posters are harping on about a tennis player, jeez give it a rest man.
If we lose today we are staring relegation in the face yet a tennis players antics in a country thousands of miles away seems to be more important.
Unbelievable.
I know where my priorities lye, and it ain`t tennis, especially on an important match day.

Comment #55Dont know why people are making such a fuss about Novak, doesnt matter if we are he consider him to be safe, the country rightly or wrongly have a set of rules they expect all to follow. If you are I went there and didnt meet their rules, wouldnt be alowed in, why make it different for him because he is a sportsman and a celebrity? Everyone else has to follow the rules, so should he ane everyone else taking part in the tournament

Lol – I hope he goes out and get a debut hatrick. But I’ll be happy with 2 (even one actually). Either way, Wood will have tbe wind in his sales and on his day can be unplayable. So I hope it’s just that today. Unplayable. There’s a huge chance, that will be the case.

Comment #63Munster – I was once in a night club in Newcastle and was in a bad mood (I had a good reason). Was at the bar and there was an Irish guy next to me ordering. I basically laid into him saying that Irish guys were full of crap playing on their Irishness and how sweet they are and treat their Ma’s nicely, but really it’s just a ploy to get into a girls’ knickers. I was angry (again, I had good reason – though it was not his fault!) and kinda trying to provoke an argument.
Instead of arguing, he agreed with me 100%, thought it was hilarious, insisted on buying me a drink, and we had a good chat!

Police cars revolving lightNewcastle pushing for Robin Gosens, now main LB target. They have offered him a very good contract meaning personal terms are no issue. They want him in January. Deal has lots of potential, very likely. Offer incoming. Be a great signing! #nufc #newcastle #Atalanta

What you reckon today?
My worry is once again we will be let down by the team just when we think Watford are there for the taking, just like Cambridge, we let ourselves down.
I`m praying for a win today otherwise i think it`s curtains for us.

Comment #67FTC…all depends on the midfield…we gotta learn to move the ball quicker than have been…we need to unsettle opposition defences and keep them unsettled as opposed to giving them all theme in the world to settle and organise.
If we do that, we’ll get the telling crosses in irrespective of who’s on the end of them.
3 goals, three different scorers is what we need to day!
Onwards and upwards

I don’t know anything about this Robin Gosens. Is he a decent LB option do you know mate? Also I like that he is called Robin, if Botman does cone in (which I still have faith he will, nearer to the end of the window) then we will finally have our Botman & Robin 😉

Think it all depends who we play at left back, if they stick Dumet there, even for just 60 or 70 mins, sure we can go on and nick it. If not, got the worry of conceding, just hope I’m not being too positive and hoping for 3-0. 3-1. They concede every game, but so do we mostly, thats the downside

I agree 100% with what you are saying. I’ve mentioned a few times over the past 2 days, that I believe we will get straight into Watford from the start. Eddie will ensure we are up for this one. That I have no doubt mate. But yes I fully agree for Wood to perform then our midfield need to perform to supply the ammo etc.

Comment #78I would be surprised if we sign a left back this window. Maybe if he’s young, an excellent prospect, and doesn’t expect to start every game? But we have Lewis, Dummett, Trippier & Manquillo who can comfortably play that position.
Digne was worth going for perhaps as he’s a proven performer in the PL but I still don’t think it’s priority.
A centre back and a right sided attacker are the 2 signings I definitely want to see.
