Here is the team Eddie Howe has named for today’s pivotal match against Watford. It has three changes from last weekend’s FA Cup defeat with a debut for Chris Wood and Paul Dummett’s return.

Howe has both new signings in the starting eleven in what again appears to be a 4-3-3. Paul Dummett comes in at left-back with Matt Ritchie making way.
The bench is without Dwight Gayle, Jeff Hendrick, or Ciaran Clark though Jamal Lewis returns to the matchday squad. Young Elliot Anderson makes the bench once again.
This is who Claudio Ranieri has named for the visitors with former Magpie Moussa Sissoko as captain.

Newcastle have a golden opportunity to climb out of the relegation places with a win today. They’ve been in short supply with just one in this campaign.
Watford are struggling with seven straight defeats and missing some key players. It’s getting close to now or never and Newcastle need to start winning these types of matches.

Comment #42Great to see Dummett back in the team. One of the best defenders at the club, which I guess doesn’t take much. Will take him a few games to get back up to speed but a rusty Dummett is better than a fit Richie at LB.

Exactly, that`s the problem, he is injury prone, if he had been a regular in the team this season i think we would be a few points better off.
Lets hope he can stay fit .

Comment #44Dummett has been at the club for a long time and has seen out a few managers, yet every one of them has played him when fit, he must be doing something right.

Comment #45Dummett back is a boost to our defence.
We’ve conceded far too many goals this season during his absence.
Three points today lads.

Comment #49Need more from Fraser today- if Howe can get him back to the form he was in at his peak at Bournemouth then he’d be fantastic but he’s been no where near that so far.
The line up just reminds us how desperately we need these transfers to be sorted!
Botman, Haidara and Diego Carlos PLEASE!

That’s got to be a bit of a bad joke if true.

Comment #62I have a good feeling but it needs to not get to that nervy last half hour were the anxiety of the crowd creeps into the players. you can feel it at home games.

Joelinton is the key in midfield today. Expecting another powerhouse performance from him.

Comment #64Was laughing at the cold weather stuff from earlier. It’s 10am here and it’s a balmy -13C. Makes NYMag’s climate look tropical. It does get into the -20C’s sometimes. Love it. Hate the summer heat.

Comment #67As much as Howe probably likes Ritchie I am sure he sees his weaknesses like we all do. He might be able to put in a good cross and provide some leadership and voice when needed but he is past his peak and not a defender. Hopefully some of our other spots that are being filled by more utility players are filled with “professional” specialists. You can all use that term now. 😉
