There’s news today that Germany’s international left-winger (left-back) Robin Gosens has agreed personal terms with Newcastle, and he’s willing to join the Tyneside club this month.
That’s according to Sky in Italy, but Newcastle still have to agree the fee with Atalanta.
Gosen has been offered a three and a half year contract (that’s through summer of 2025) for €3.5M net per season, and that is almost 3 times what he currently earns.
However, there is a snag, with the player out injured until at least the middle of February with a muscle injury, and Newcastle are waiting for more news on when he is expected to return.
Here’s a segment from the Sky Italy report:
“Robin Gosens has not played since September 29, the day of the muscle injury suffered in the Champions League match against Young Boys.”
“A problem that still holds him up today but, despite the long stop, there is no shortage of admirers for the German winger.”
“Newcastle seem to be serious, and aim to take him regardless of the injury. The English club is trying to receive reassurance on the return, at the time scheduled for 15 February.”
The 27-year-old stands 6ft tall, and has played 157 games with 29 goals and 21 assists over the last five seasons for Atalanta.
This acquisition, if Newcastle can get it over the line, would definitely improve our team, in both attack and in defense.
But we still need center-backs brought in – because even when we go ahead at home against a team that has lost seven in a row, we are unable to win the game and concede with just two minutes to go.
That’s what we witnessed yesterday against Watford, and we need as many players brought in over the next two weeks as possible.
Otherwise, we will be relegated.
After yesterday’s insipid second half, it’s as simple as that.
It’s now up to the owners to try to save us this season.

What do you think?

Comment #42The full team is nowhere near Premier League standard. I’d say the majority are championship at best. We need to let the likes of Lascelles, Shelvey sit a few games out. They are the two most vocal players out on the pitch And they aren’t playing there best football. A few more signings will help massively but I do think yesterday’s game was another nail in the coffin. Premier league quality players are needed to get us out of this hole

Comment #44Djokovic is another of these “entitled” pr!cks who don’t seem to realise that without the v’s there would be tens of millions dead world wide.
Good on Australia for not accepting him! He can do his own things but has to accept there are consequences, especially when travelling abroad!

Comment #45Midfield is not necessarily as bad as made out. Schar and Lascelles don’t inspire any confidence. Everyone is just waiting for the inevitable rick. The captain was dire yesterday. He is frightened of the opposition and even the ball itself terrifies hiim. Get in 2 good centrebacks – even one with Dummett – and the midfield will pick up.

Comment #46We only need two players. We do not need centre backs or wingers or fullbacks or goalkeepers.
Put Kante and de bruyne in centre midfield and we would be transformed.
Tripps schar fernandesand Lewis/fumet would look competent.
And the centre mid would give structure to the mindless running of max and Almiron.
Eddie is buying the wrong positions. He needs to see the doctor if he is buying a guy out since September and still injured.
Eddie is running out of road. Next must win game is Leeds right? One shot on target against woeful Watford. Do not hold your breath

Comment #47I’m beginning to suspect Howe is a little overawed on Match days at St James. Quiet on the side-lines and there is a real meekness to his Captain which is getting worse by the game. Lascelles seems to be hating life at the minute, he transmits absolute fear to the rest of the team whenever we take the lead. He’s a great lad but he hasn’t shown anything like the strength of character and composure we have needed for a very long time now. You simply cant have a Captain who is often the weakest link on the pitch. Eddie needs to show some spine here and set a higher standard and put any sentiment to the side
