Newcastle Must Sign At Least One Center-Back This Month Or Face Relegation

It was obvious yesterday against Watford, that Newcastle are a frail team these days, and very nervous when they go ahead in a game – because – let’s face it – they may even win it.

In our 22 games this season we have one victory and one clean sheet against Burnley when we won 1-0 at home and there was a gigantic celebration, but nothing since then.

And even then, Burnley seemed to equalize late in the game, but the goal was ruled offside.

So the owners, after yesterday’s fragile display, must bring in some players in the next two weeks – in any position – but particularly at center-back.

Jamaal Lascelles looks like he is simply not good enough and there have to be questions about whether he should remain as the Newcastle captain with Kieran Trippier really looking the part on Tyneside.

Sevilla center-back Diego Carlos seems to be our best chance, and while two center-backs brought in would be good, we must bring in at least one.

Then Fabian Schar or Federico Fernandez (is he still injured?) can fill the other center-back position through the end of the season.

So our new owners have to get this man Carlos in as quickly as possible.

And hopefully this week, so he can play at Leeds United on Saturday, Newcastle’s last game before the squad flies out for some warm weather training in Saudi Arabia.

Our next game is then against Everton at home on Tuesday, February 8th – hopefully, time to regroup and pout in some very hard training.

And finally, news today that Rafa Benitez will be leaving Everton, after a disastrous six months there.

If we’re playing with Wood up front we have to have players around him who compliment his game.

Midfield runners, good delivery into the box, players close for knock downs.

He could be more effective and dangerous than Wilson if we play the right way.

    Tom,

I hope we can go down the loans route too. Seems to be a bit of an under used option at the minute. Mind if it’s Phil Jones I’ll be swearing even more than when watford equalised.

    Clint

Spot on, appalling lack of movement and support, no triangles, nothing, nada, zilch!

I hope Magic still enjoyed his day out. Has he surfaced yet?

I am old school what id do is bring the reserves in, drop shelvey and longstaff and replace them with the reserves, I remember cloughy once said you dont do your shift on the pitch why should I pay you ……………. these days there to well protected by the pfa the rules that fifa and eufa have drafted in has made football a laughing stock really football used to be a very tough sport nowdays its full of fairies who if you breath on them they fall over for a foul, look at the loyalty to the club they have none, fair enough there fitter and more stamina but in all honesty they couldnt tie the old timers shoes

Joelinton has been better in midfield,i wonder if he could play a deeper more defensive role if we cant get some in…shelvey and longstaff dont have the defensive mind, pace, tackling ability…we need someone sitting graftin in front of the back four, there were huge gaps in our midfield yesterday even in 1st half

I’d let Schar go if we bring in Cb he is too slow and he can’t play Dm he never could he would just be another Shelvey.
    Ship him out now

    …for soooo long now, hey?
It drives you mad watching it.

I can’t believe coaches can’t see this. Maybe the mf just isn’t capable of employing this?

I’m with Rotonda on the style of play issue. The outdated method of lumping it into the box for a big target man or even wingers getting to the byline to cross it trying to hit the target man no longer pays dividends . There are no PL teams playing like this any longer and achieving anything.

All the top teams nowadays, even when they have plenty of players in the box, resist the temptation to fire hopeful balls in but prefer to prefer to play through defences and pull the ball back to a specified player.

If the hoofball option would guarantee us the points to avoid the drop then I would be OK with it for now, but these days defenders are too astute and competent so the percentages are way too low to score regularly with this outdated method.

Murphy as well in current form should be starting every game ahead of Fraser

Him and Trippier together would make a good combo

Fraser just looks like he has lost that pace and doesn’t look to cross or get into the box anymore

the takeover happened without warning really, they havent had enough time to sort things out really, they knew our league standing from the off and I still think we have to be relegated this season I think that was the deal, just look at the other clubs reaction along with the PL themselves also the media tv ect ect its been none stop since october

the owners have only been at the club not even 4 months patients is the key as yous all know, its been a set up since day 1

I haven`t had time to catch up so don`t know what has been said but i`m in the relegation camp frame of mind now.
Watford were streets ahead of us as far as movement going forward yesterday and deserved at least a point.
I don`t think Howe can stop the rot tbh, If we can`t turn Watford over, who incidentally had lost 6 on the bounce, then i`m afraid we are knackered.
At what point do fans accept that one win out of 21 means only one thing.
Watford play Burnley and Norwich in their next 2 games. after watching them yesterday my bet is they will beat both teams, which will leave us adrift.
After both games have been played we could find ourselves bottom if Burnley manage a draw.
I think it`s time to realise that it`s the champo next season. for us, we are just not good enough, and i am disappointed in Howe, i expected better than what he is dishing out.
i think the job is too big for him, we are not Bournemouth

Main problem is not having a ball-winning DM, effectively restricting 3 of the midfielders stressing about defensive duties. A assuring DM protecting the backline will give much confident to the other midfielders going forward.
