Shearer Unable To Contain Himself About This Newcastle Player – Superb, Magnificent

Alan Shearer waxed lyrical about our new signing Kieran Trippier last night and certainly everybody can see on the field how he is a great leader.

Just watch how Trippier stands over the ball and directs where players should be before Jonjo Shelvey took the free-kick.

Trippier then stood away and Jonjo put the ball into the back of the net to give Newcastle a fabulous and somewhat unexpected win.

And after we went ahead there was no lying deep and defending which cost us 2 points last weekend against Watford.

Indeed, we had two or three chances to get a second goal, as Leeds pushed forward as much as they could, to get the equalizer.

Alan Shearer’s not the first one to say how Tripper can be a future Newcastle captain, and with Jamaal Lascelles likely to miss some games with a hamstring injury, maybe Trippier will get the captain’s armband.

Maybe, but we still think Howe will give it to Shelvey, one of his favorite players.

Indeed, Shelvey worked so hard yesterday – up and down the field – it’s hard to remember a Newcastle side, putting in so much work and running, as the side did yesterday.

At around £12M, Kieran Trippier is a fantastic signing, and he’s already a Geordie!!

This is what Alan said last night about our new signing:

“Kieran Trippier, one of the new boys, was absolutely magnificent going up against Jack Harrison, whose confidence was really high after a hat-trick – and he never gave him a kick,”

“I thought his positioning throughout the game was superb, both offensively and defensively. If he got in behind, he blocked him. One v one wasn’t a problem.”

“His positioning with the ball coming in was excellent. There was one lovely header away. There was just no way past him – he wasn’t letting him, past him at all.”

“As soon as he had his touch, he was onto him.”

“Quality going forward in the forward positions. Very clever here into Joe Willock – it should have been a better ball across – but he was the one setting it off.”

“Very good touch, weight of pass into Ryan Fraser in behind. Magnificent.”

“I thought everything about his game was superb and, for me, he’s future captain material for Newcastle United.”

“I have no doubt that I think he will captain Newcastle.”

Good words there from the Newcastle icon.

But we must be up for every single game from now on, through the end of the season.

Three or four new top-class arrivals to the club, hopefully as soon as possible, and we must stand a good chance of surviving this season.

Then comes the summer, and next season we should be challenging for a top-eight position.

Our fans should finally be rewarded with a team we are proud of.

Howay The Lads!!

Yup now that Lascelles is injured I really hope Howe gives Trippier the captaincy. It’s a great opportunity to make him captain without having to strip Lascelles of the role as he’s injured. He’ll probably gives it to Shelvey though.

That’s a pretty public endorsement that unfortunately Lascelles days are numbered at the club. I can see him going back to Forest if we stay up.

    JP,
If we sign a new CB and he settles quickly then the problem is solved. Lascelles is benched while Trippier is captain. Lascelles can be given his last game against Burnley if we’re safe then sold to Forest. Job done.

I think some of the Henny Penny’s were flapping last week because we needed bodies in for Leeds. There’s no pressure now and this next eight days should be quite enjoyable as we see new faces come in.

That’s a very interesting formation my team listed as…

It was a very tidy 4123 with Bissouma screening obviously.

We might end up in that shape i posted if John Barnes took over mind…

Sideways eyes because it’s tongue in cheek I honestly do understand formations lol

Finally caught up with last night and this morning. Frightened to watch yesterday, followed game on hear and SSN simultaneously rather than break any rules. 😉

Watched in on MoTD and it looked like we got a few breaks in 1st half (about time) and matched them toe to toe in 2nd which was great to see.

Great win, could have easily been 2 – 5 with the chances we had, Shelvey’s volley, Longstaff’s miss, Fraser’s soft shot, Willock’s tame effort + a penalty, we’re all solid chances whereas the one’s created by Leeds didn’t have people on the end of good build up play.

We deserved and finally got the win that we should have had against Watford (twice), Norwich, Man U and Brentford – those results would have us safe in mid table.

The good things are, we are playing better football, creating more chances and looking much more cohesive as a team. That’s all down to Eddie Howe and his team, we look like a team that can win games (at last). It’s taken just 12 weeks to undo the damage of 2 and half years of rubbish coaching, which is pretty damn good. 🙂

I’m not really sure about Dele Alli. Is he a fighter? Is he a grafter on the pitch who will do the defensive part as well? Do we really want to take the risk and who’s place would he take – Willock’s? I’d rather not spend 18 games finding out something to our detriment that 3 successive Spurs managers already know.

    sparky55,
I think we need a top LB, Dummet is too unreliable in the PL, we have Manq but he’s a RB and cover for Trippier. A top LB for Lewis to learn from and see how he progresses in the future.

It’s very interesting reading different peoples views. I listened to the game on the radio as I was at work, John Anderson said Tripper was absolutely schooled in the first half by Harrison. Then Shearer says Harrison didn’t get a kick. Who to believe. I know who I will believe.

The only thing lacking with Wood (no s) is a bit of pace, missed a gilt edged chance in the box cos of it.

Otherwise he is exactly what we thought he’d be, a good short term signing.

I reckon Anderson was correct, there were several occasions where Trippier was caught out in the 1st half.

I think EH sorted this out at half time by getting Fraser to drop back more to help him out, also the reason why Fraser was so knackered towards the end of the game.

Considering I said Trippier is to be the next captain it’s not what I’m saying.

Every footer who through him to the wolves were absent yesterday. Not one back step or eating humble pie.

Criticism is fine and expected but surely we all want every player who wears the black and white to be successful? So when players step it up I think they deserve praise as much as they do criticism but it flows one way with most.

I didn’t know how many aerial duels Chris Wood won or seen his heat maps and touches. What I did see from watching the game is that without his presence as a focal point and spearhead and the belief he gives the other players that we’re capable of scoring goals we wouldn’t have won that game yesterday. If he’d played against Cambridge we’d have won 5-0.
