In what has been a rare occurrence this season, some Newcastle players have been named to Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week. Shearer has not been bashful with his Newcastle ties as he selects three Magpies in Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar, and Jonjo Shelvey.

This is just the third week that a Newcastle player has managed to make Alan’s team. Allan Saint-Maximin was selected for the home fixture against Leeds in September. Jamaal Lascelles made it for our only other win of this campaign against Burnley early last month.
Dubravka, Schar, and Shelvey deserve some recognition for their performances in the 1-0 win at Leeds on Saturday. There are some other candidates as well as Kieran Trippier was simply outstanding.
Dubravka made some key saves in keeping just our second clean sheet of the season. He was helped by the warrior-like display of Fabian Schar. The 30-year-old was brilliant with 9 clearances, 2 interceptions, and 2 blocked shots.
Jonjo Shelvey put in a massive shift in the midfield. It was an important display from the playmaker as Joelinton was forced off in the first half with a groin injury. In addition to his goal, Shelvey had 2 tackles, 2 clearances, and a blocked shot in a complete performance.

I’m thinking the same as you…loan deals always get done at the 11th hour just in case something more interesting comes along.
I think we’ll buy a couple of players this week, but all the loan deals will get done on the last day, which still gives the new loan players a week to train with the team before we play Everton on the 8th.
Splash the cash on Bissouma and Carlos and Zapata
Loan the rest
Onwards and upwards

Comment #44Brian certainly was one of my favourite players 😉 I have posted for a few years but not a regular by any means. Just excited for the future now we have some hope and belief, let’s hope we get the signings that will excite but more importantly, keep us in the league to then build upon.

Comment #60Maguire cost £70m. If Carlos is as good as everyone claims then £40m is a good price, even at 28. 4 good years off him. Important that we build some transfer momentum this week.

Comment #61Dele Alli could be worth a punt. Get him out of that London/Cockney cesspit and he might just recover previous form.
He would have to obey Howe otherwise he does not play.
He might re-find his past form.
No to Lingard or owt else to do with Man U.

Comment #65As Toon fans I’d expect some of you to realise we are NOT the richest club in the world but we have the richest owners – big difference. As some have said there is a probably an upper limit to the budget that has been allocated – it will be a generous one (compared to Ashley) and I’d agree with others that it is probably in the region of about £100m – £120m so if we p*ss it all away with an outrageous bid there won’t be enough left for other players!

The Saudi Arabian owners of Newcastle United have ambitions to make the club the focal point of a global sports and football portfolio.
The appointment of Majed Al Sorour to the board is awaiting Premier League approval. #nufc [The Times]

Comment #70Not sure if anyone has heard/watched it but Russell Brand was on TalkSport today with White & Jordan, not many you see on there who can go toe-to-toe with Jordan as he always seems to think he’s a billy big bollocks and seems to always look down on people with the “I’m smarter and know more than you” type of edge he has, anyways Brand really shone bright, made some excellent points about football and world economics which left Jordan lost for words at times, felt sorry for poor Danny Murphy though, I don’t then he had a clue what was going on let alone be being discussed bless him.
