Neil has just reported on the news about Seville’s Diego Carlos, with Sky Sports saying that Seville will sell their top center-back for €45M, which is about £38M.
The good news is that Newcastle are still in negotiations for the Brazilian center-back with the Spanish club and have had their most recent offer of £30M was rejected.
What would normally happen is Newcastle go back with £34M, but maybe Newcastle have to be more decisive and offer the £38M, as long as Seville say they will accept that amount.
But it’s understood that the £30M offer has already been matched by Spurs.
So now it looks to be a two-club auction for Carlos.
So this seems like in days of old, when we hang on and on, trying to get the very best deal for a player, only for another club to come in as competition at the very end, and get the player.
That happened back in January of 2015 when we thought we had Deli Alli all set for £5M, but we then haggled over agents fees, only for – yes Tottenham – to come in and sign the player for £5M plus agents fees.
But maybe we will not lose out on this deal, as we have in the past under the former owner.
What Newcastle need to do now is pay that money and hope Spurs cannot or will not match it.
We have already agreed terms with Carlos, and from what we have read, he wants to come to Newcastle.
So if we now lose out on this player, it will not be good.
In fact, it will be embarrassing.
What do you think?

Comment #84I honestly don’t know why anyone gives Kets the time of day. Calling him a blog treasure is most definitely a case of the Emperor’s new clothes. A few people have seen through his idiocy lately.

Comment #85Galatasaray have terminated Yedlin’s contract today. He can’t even get into their first team squad and they are 15th in the Turkish league with risk of relegation. That’s all we need to know.

Comment #86Calling Yedlin better than anything we have. Repeatedly!!! Is just disrespectful to our current RB’s and just plain stupidity with a massive sprinkling of Wummery.

Newcastle will make a new attempt to buy Atalanta’s Robin Gosens by the end of the January transfer window.
The German is pushing for a transfer, having already agreed a three and a half year contract with #nufc, at €3.5m per season. [Sky Italy]

Comment #88Yedlin is a decent player. Should never have left us. You rate players like James Tarkowski who is absolutely useless.

Comment #89Not really. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion and I think Yedlin was our best right back. Santon would walk back into this team. Another one whom we shouldn’t have let go.

Comment #92You just don’t like Yedlin because he used to play for Sunderland. If he didn’t play for them, you’d think he was a great player.

Comment #95GUARDIAN – Shelvey shines next to tireless Longstaff
Eddie Howe swiftly identified Jonjo Shelvey as the playmaker he wants at the heart of his Newcastle rebuild. In scoring the winner with a clever free-kick and producing a fine second-half performance, Shelvey played a pivotal role in the team’s second victory this season. He improved dramatically after Sean Longstaff replaced the injured Joelinton shortly before the break. Longstaff’s form has disappointed lately but he looked reborn against Leeds. If Saturday’s result is not to prove a one-off, he must maintain this standard – or Howe needs to sign a midfield anchor capable of offering a protective framework within which Shelvey can utilise his passing range. As Newcastle headed to a Red Sea training camp near Jeddah, a dominant but blunt Leeds reflected on yet another reminder of how much they miss the injured Patrick Bamford. Louise Taylor

Comment #105Jong, Shelvey was my MoM vs Watford, and he put in a shift this weekend. I was having a problem picking a MoM for this week’s game, I let Mund persuade me to to pick Dubs. Commanded his area, distributed fast and accurate, but really you could choose between all of them. Great team performance

Comment #115I think there must be some minimum payout performance clause in those Watford contracts, there’s no way they could keep paying three years salary every ten months. It was on Planet FPL that the average stint is 28 games so he made it past half way.

Comment #118Looking very likely we are gonna sign Lingard. Will be a good English spine to tbe team with lots of PL experience which is critical in getting us out of tbe brown stuff. On that basis I’d be quietly confident that either Ramsey or Ali could come in also. Ali has a lot to prove and if anyone can get his head back in the game it’s wor Eddie. Get the lad away from the bright lights.
Very very confident that thins window will smash all other previous windows for over 15 years. Will be yet another interesting week to be a NUFC fan. Loving it 🙂
