Newcastle Now Facing Increased Competition For Top Targets

Newcastle continue to work on deals but are still facing significant obstacles in their pursuits. There was movement on at least one deal on Monday with Jesse Lingard appearing to inch closer to a loan move.

The Magpies have offered a substantial loan fee of around £5-6m to bring the 29-year-old in for the season’s final 17 games. Newcastle would also pay the entirety of Lingard’s £80k/week in wages.

Manchester United have yet to respond but all indications are the England international is open to the move. News should surface, whether positive or negative, imminently on The Red Devils’ response.

The situation is a bit more dicey for two other top targets. Newcastle have been in extended negotiations with Sevilla over Diego Carlos while Atalanta’s Robin Gosens has emerged as a top left-back target in the wake of Mitchel Bakker’s cold feet at a move to Tyneside.

The circumstances are very similar for these two targets in that their clubs don’t want to sell and there is competition for the player. Sevilla reportedly will command a fee of £38m for Carlos with Tottenham also in hot pursuit.

Football Insider is reporting that Spurs will offer midfielder Giovani Lo Celsi in part exchange for the Brazilian. The Argentine played on loan at Sevilla’s bitter rivals Real Betis before securing his move to North London.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Inter Milan are now pushing very hard for Gosens after Newcastle’s increased interest. Atalanta are unwilling sellers but may prefer to do busines with Newcastle than their Italian rivals.

Newcastle have agreed on personal terms with the left-back that will see his weekly wage more than double. Inter can likely match those figures but Newcastle may hold the advantage as far as transfer fees are concerned. This one appears on a razor’s edge like the Carlos deal.

Newcastle have a backup plan with former target Rogerio again being pursued. The Brazilian was the preferred target back in 2020 until Newcastle shifted to Jamal Lewis. At the time, a fee had reportedly been agreed with Sassuolo.

Sky Italy’s Rudi Galetti reported Newcastle’s interest on Monday. He is claiming that personal terms have now been agreed with the 24-year-old left-back. It appears Newcastle are finalizing details for a quick transfer should the pursuit of Gosens end in defeat.

NUFC legends team up for 2022 charity event in Gosforth
Four iconic former Newcastle United Football players are to come together for a special charity event at The Grand Hotel in Gosforth on Friday 8 April 2022. The event will reunite Kevin Keegan’s famous 90s “Entertainers” team, including former star midfielder Rob Lee, famed left-back John Beresford, former Northern Irish winger Keith Gillespie and the club’s legendary centre back and England international, Steve Howey. Featuring an auction, raffle and two-course meal, the charity event – organised by friends and NUFC nuts Les Hancock and Terry Sweeney – will be a smart-casual dinner event aimed at all supporters of the team.

Commenting on the event, John Beresford said: “I’m really looking forward to April 8th when myself, Keith Gillespie, Rob Lee and Steve Howey will head to Gosforth Park where we’re going to have a few reminisces and some entertainment to go with it. We’re going to be telling some funny stories; things you’ve probably never heard before. It’s going to be humorous, let’s put it that way! It’s all for two fantastic causes; Tiny Lives Trust and Wallsend Boys Club. I really can’t wait and I hope to see you there”

The evening is dedicated to the memory of Brian Paddison, a popular Newcastle businessman, charity fundraiser and passionate Newcastle United fan. All proceeds from the event are to go straight to Tiny Lives Trust and the legendary Wallsend Boys Club which has produced over 80 professional football players since its formation, including Alan Shearer, Alan Thompson, Steve Watson and Michael Carrick.

Tickets for the NUFC Legends Charity Evening are priced at £45 and can be purchased via email at lesnufc@yahoo.com or over the phone by contacting organisers Les Hancock on 07779 841293 or Terry Sweeney at 07968 126622.

TDS you said earlier you’ll be looking forward to the end of the transfer window as your fed up with the transfer links, just a heads up on February 1st the journalists will be linking us with players we are going to buy in the summer. Except with the possible caveat of as long as they maintain their PL status being added at the end.

If we don’t get anybody else in I wonder if a few on here will start demanding new owners.

DayvanCowboy – but mainstream media doesn’t report on eSports that often so it’s not likely that they would report on that either. So I don’t think it’s strange at all that we haven’t seen it in mainstream media or politicians talking about it, especially the latter. The only reason that it was mentioned by both before is because our takeover was mainstream news whereas this just simply isn’t.

I’m definitely in the camp that I prefer to bring the Saudi’s into the global discussions and they’ve already made massive progress in their country in recent years. Alienating them would serve no positive purpose at all.

That Zapata transfer is what I like the sound of £30M if we stay up, he gets £3M of that and trebles his wages most likely, that is a huge incentive to bust a gut. You can’t really do that with Lingard for a number of reasons.

We’re FuQuinn Doomed – Yeah, I know…anything to justify their existence hey?

But at least we will hopefully be saved the daily updates from various so called experts on our prospective transfers, often contradicting each other and/or being days out of date. Also hoping the people here will be more focussed on our games than the summer transfer window.

Not sure we should be buying players like tarkowski etc from ellow stragglers in the league, we shouldn’t give them extra funds to strengthen. Anyone know why he hasn’t been given a new contract?

CLINT – I honestly don’t know if they dislike us or if it’s just the angle that they’ve decided to take in order to generate those hits. Are they just finding a niche and then staying there? It’s tough to stand out so if that’s the best way they’ve decided, that’s what they’ll do. Latch onto the hot topic and keep commenting.

They’ll be earning far too much money for contributing virtually nothing…

ToonDarnSarf, no I totally agree that positive change needs to be made and they have to continue to follow through and better themselves, and the chance should be given for the country and state to show that, I just hope that is the case in the long run as any negatives that occur from now onwards regarding SA you can bet your bottom dollar on NUFC’s name been dragged through the mud along with them.

#nufc ready to walk away from Diego Carlos deal. It’s thought original price quoted was €30m but Sevilla changed (Upwards arrow) numerous times. Tough on player who’s desperate to sign. Newcastle now actively looking elsewhere. They have money, won’t be taken advantage of.

You poo-pooed my suggestion that Lingard was waiting for West H to make an offer then post a journo’s quote saying he’s weighing up his options. At least have a bit of consistency or it looks as though you’re arguing black is white for the sake of it.

Reilly, Duvan Zupata is no spring chicken but had a decent last few years scoring over 1 goal every 2 games. That would work for us.
It seems these new owners dont see the dreaded 30 years of age the same way as ashley did. Life in the old dog yet. CAC.

“Ready to walk away” seems to be the line regarding Carlos. So can only assume that Sevilla have been told we’ve made our final offer and we’ll have to advance backup targets if they don’t agree. Unlike a typical window where clubs are just looking at good deals to strengthen their squad or provide cover, we’ll have a definite plan that we WILL bring in a centre half this window.

Also wouldn’t mind looking at Lewis Dunk feel he is very underrated although doubt Brighton would sell but maybe has a release clause we don’t know about

CLINT – I totally agree, it’s not on at all. But they do it because it works. Every Toon fan who clicks on their article, reposts the URL, or makes a comment on it, plays into their hands. Negative attention is as good as positive attention for them as it all means engagement on their site and therefore increasing the amount of revenue they can get from advertisers.

Best thing we can do is to block those kinds of sites and never engage with them.
