There is promising news this morning (finally!) that Lyon have accepted Newcastle’s offer for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. This was initially reported by Football Insider, who claims a medical is scheduled in Brazil, where the 24-year-old is with the national team.
This claim has now been backed by Sky Sports as Keith Downie has tweeted the following.
BREAKING: Newcastle have agreed a fee with Lyon for midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
We understand the deal is in the region of £30m.
The Brazilian international will undergo a medical in his homeland, hopefully today #NUFC— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) January 26, 2022
This is encouraging news that cash-strapped Lyon are not going to play hardball with Newcastle United as many other clubs have. If these reports are accurate, it now comes down to the player to accept the move.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal or Juventus try to hijack this move now that the price has been set. While Newcastle can offer Guimaraes excellent personal terms, there are no guarantees we will survive this season.
It’s going to be a nervy day on Tyneside as this deal progresses. Bringing a player in of this quality for a reasonable fee, in this window, under our circumstances, and after all that has transpired this month, would be nothing short of miraculous.
This miracle may actually happen as Fabrizio Romano has added that Guimaraes has accepted Newcastle’s offer.
Newcastle are set to sign Bruno Guimarães. Meeting in the last few hours with Bruno & agents – he decided to accept. ???? #NUFC

Comment #6carltoon – you think it’s ok for people to believe a complete lie created as prank claiming that an ex-referee has alleged gross corruption amongst referees and the FA? How is that healthy?

Comment #16carltoon – I care. I care massively. Because it’s a big problem when fake news is published as facts and people are manipulated into having flawed opinions on topics. Differing opinions are wonderful, differing facts are not.

Comment #18Mund – I agree. It’s your choice if you want to publish things that have no proof behind them but then please respect my choice to call you out on it if I spot that it’s proven to be false or that there’s no evidence to prove that it’s true.
The truth matters.

Comment #28Let’s hope this is confirmed in coming hours, bloody great deal.
Personal opinion: I’m really glad owners aren’t allowing teams to “pull our pants down” over potential deals. We will benefit in the short, medium and long term by being tough to deal with. This has almost been most pleasing aspect of window so far.
And I say that despite my nerves being shredded by the process 😀

Comment #31Mund – Proving something not to be a fact is impossible as there’s always the “what if” argument. Proving something to be a fact should be relatively easy for something like that.

It’s very very true that the truth matters but unfortunately this is just a blog and is mainly about opinions.
A pinch of salt goes a long way on here.
If it was all truth there would be nothing to report.
Just treat as a nice work of fiction with elements of truth.

Comment #35SSN: “Glasgow City have announced the signing of Scotland international Abbi Grant on loan from Leicester City until the end of the season.”
Was thinking WTF are Glasgow City? Some non-league Scottish team and they’re getting someone from Leicester? WTF?
I’m all for women’s football, just wish their clubs would have different names so I don’t read those stories. I care the same about the Leicester City women’s team as I do about the Leicester City eSports team…not at all.

Comment #38Just a fan – I think there’s place for both, I really do. We can all argue about whether we prefer Dummett or Lewis at left back and we all have valid opinions, right? But those opinions have to be based on something.
As I said before, if you said you prefer Dummett because he’s a 40 cap England international (he’s Welsh), or you claimed he’s a young prospect (he’s 30), then you might revise your opinion when someone corrects your misunderstanding of the facts, right?

Comment #39Dan Burn makes a lot of sense he’s a good defender for a start and is left footed which we need for balance
Is used to playing in a high line and taking command of the ball which is important for the way we want to play
Also can play in a 3 at the back or 2 and has filled in as a wingback
Also he’s a Toon fan!!!
