There are very encouraging details emerging on Newcastle’s pursuit of Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The 24-year-old has reportedly agreed to the move with a medical scheduled in his native Brazil. Discussions over personal terms are also planned in the near future.
As reported earlier, Lyon accepted Newcastle’s offer of just over £30m for the playmaker. The majority of local outlets are backing the claims that this move is heading in a very positive direction as is Fabrizio Romano.
Bruno Guimarães medical with Newcastle will take place once some final details are agreed/signed with agents and OL, and once Bruno’s back in Brazil [he’s now in Ecuador]. ?? #NUFC
All parties involved are still working to complete the deal soon, after meeting last night.

Talk of a late move for Brighton’s Dan Burn is also gaining momentum. The 29-year-old was reported to be a potential target late last night. Football Insider is reporting that Newcastle are now in advanced talks over a £10m deal for the local man.
The 6’7″ defender is a Geordie and would likely jump at the chance of a move to Tyneside. This represents such a dream opportunity for Burn that Brighton may not have it in their hearts to block the move.
The fee being quoted represents a sizeable profit on a player entering the final 18-months of his contract. He also turns 30 before this season concludes. So this could be a transfer that benefits all parties as Burn is a solid player who will be joining for his love of the club.
The Telegraph has provided further details of Newcastle’s push for Jesse Lingard. There were reports late last night that the move was all but dead.
However, that may be jumping the gun a bit. Luke Edwards is reporting that the stumbling block is down solely to a sizeable bonus of £12m should Newcastle survive this season. The loan fee Manchester United are requiring is only £2.5m.
Newcastle rightly feel the survival bonus is extortionary while The Red Devils maintain it to be reasonable considering the high stakes in play. Relegation would prove a massive pitfall to Newcastle’s future plans.
Manchester United have knocked back approaches from West Ham, Tottenham, and Everton. They appear to only be willing to do business with Newcastle with the bonus remainingthe sole stumbling block.
A compromise may be able to be reached before the window closes on Monday. An obvious one is to increase the loan fee by a fee million while decreasing the bonus clause to around £2-3m.
Newcastle get their man for a slightly inflated loan price while Man U receive a decent fee for a player they lose for nothing in the summer. However, there appears to be a lot more at play than money on this one.

Comment #41I doubt the Lingard deal is dead. Unless he wants to go elsewhere. Sitting at United is costing them money. I think we could low ball them on deadline day and they’ll accept.

Comment #44Dan Burn makes sense given he has played in a back three, centre back and left back. Bit like Dummett he would potentially fill two roles.
A shrewd move if it happens.
Bruno is an exciting one though!

Comment #47Would be fantastic if this goes through. Have watched him quite a few times this season and is a baller. Freaks out a little when teams are in his face etc but all round massive upgrade for what we currently have.
Here’s hoping it goes through with no issues over the next day or so.
Defender and a striker still needed. More twists still to come, oh exciting times 🙂

Comment #51I know Burn isn’t a glamorous signing but he is a quality defender better at that side than anyone we have
A proper beast in the air and on the deck he’s as good on the ball as we need Brighton play the kind of football we aspire to play and he’s a part of that we’ll oiled machine

Comment #53This is not aimed at anybody in particular but a general piece of advice. It’s one thing to give your opinion on a player i.e. he’s sh*t or whatever – however when you start making outrageous, defamatory claims such as a footballer was having an affair or this referee was corrupt then you open yourself and the blog owners up to possible legal action. You should cover yourselves by using a term such as allegedly or supposedly etc.

Comment #57Although I am ecstatic with the Guimarães news, another body in that position would be ideal. Despite S Longstaff’s excellent show against Leeds, I am not sure whether he or Hayden would be consistent enough as a cover.

Comment #58Thank fook, they finally turned their attention to a high quality CM.
Thought it would never happen with virtually no talk of any this window.

Comment #61Burn is the type of player we needed this window. An upgrade on what we have, reliable, solid, a perfectly adequate squad player if we improve again in the summer. These are the types of player to get us out of the situation we are in so I’m glad we are making these moves now.
No issue with going for the bigger, long term targets first, but nice to see the club not gambling on an all or nothing approach, and doing the things we need to stay up.

Comment #71I’m presuming that big Joe and Bruno will become the midfield engine room.
I wonder whether the capture of Bruno will be the trigger for fellow Brazilian Carlos to join us. Hope so.
Just because Dan Burn is a Geordie shouldn’t be a reason for the club to consider him, after all Bruce was a Geordie and look how that turned out !

Comment #72Excited by Guimaeres. Let’s hope we see him holding a toon shirt soon!
I think we should just move on from Carlos for this window. Sevilla hold all the cards on that one – similar to Spurs hold on Kane from contract point of view – and they are fighting at the top of La Liga. They also had Champions League this season and likely next too so even money less of a worry for them. More of a risk to lose their lock on a top 4 CL spot in La Liga if they let Carlos go this window.
Focus on Boubacar Kamara to play next to him. That would be a massive upgrade of our central mid pairing.

Comment #76The best deals are done in a few days as it leaves no time for any party to change their mind and/or other offers to be made. All it takes is for a club in a better position to match our offer. Having a few days before it’s completed is not ideal, unless all parties can be trusted. But this is football. There is no integrity and you can trust no one.

Comment #78Appears a top signing. Current Brazil international. Only 3 caps but more on the way.
Will manure cave in over Lingard? Do they need the money? No. If we want him we cave in and pay £5 million extra or whatever.
We are short £5 million on Carlos
Just pay up the 10 million Mandy and get these deals done. These two players virtually guarantee survival.
An extra 10 million for survival is a no brainer. What are you playing at??
