There are very encouraging details emerging on Newcastle’s pursuit of Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The 24-year-old has reportedly agreed to the move with a medical scheduled in his native Brazil. Discussions over personal terms are also planned in the near future.
As reported earlier, Lyon accepted Newcastle’s offer of just over £30m for the playmaker. The majority of local outlets are backing the claims that this move is heading in a very positive direction as is Fabrizio Romano.
Bruno Guimarães medical with Newcastle will take place once some final details are agreed/signed with agents and OL, and once Bruno’s back in Brazil [he’s now in Ecuador]. ?? #NUFC
All parties involved are still working to complete the deal soon, after meeting last night.

Talk of a late move for Brighton’s Dan Burn is also gaining momentum. The 29-year-old was reported to be a potential target late last night. Football Insider is reporting that Newcastle are now in advanced talks over a £10m deal for the local man.
The 6’7″ defender is a Geordie and would likely jump at the chance of a move to Tyneside. This represents such a dream opportunity for Burn that Brighton may not have it in their hearts to block the move.
The fee being quoted represents a sizeable profit on a player entering the final 18-months of his contract. He also turns 30 before this season concludes. So this could be a transfer that benefits all parties as Burn is a solid player who will be joining for his love of the club.
The Telegraph has provided further details of Newcastle’s push for Jesse Lingard. There were reports late last night that the move was all but dead.
However, that may be jumping the gun a bit. Luke Edwards is reporting that the stumbling block is down solely to a sizeable bonus of £12m should Newcastle survive this season. The loan fee Manchester United are requiring is only £2.5m.
Newcastle rightly feel the survival bonus is extortionary while The Red Devils maintain it to be reasonable considering the high stakes in play. Relegation would prove a massive pitfall to Newcastle’s future plans.
Manchester United have knocked back approaches from West Ham, Tottenham, and Everton. They appear to only be willing to do business with Newcastle with the bonus remainingthe sole stumbling block.
A compromise may be able to be reached before the window closes on Monday. An obvious one is to increase the loan fee by a fee million while decreasing the bonus clause to around £2-3m.
Newcastle get their man for a slightly inflated loan price while Man U receive a decent fee for a player they lose for nothing in the summer. However, there appears to be a lot more at play than money on this one.

Think it’s just that Carlos isn’t for sale this window. Sevilla don’t need to and don’t want to in January unless Carlos forces a move somehow. Even then not sure they need to comply.

Dan Burn wasn’t considered just because he is a Geordie. He was performing considerable well the past seasons in EPL for Brighton.

I’m not too bothered with older defenders for now. Means we can move on those we currently have when longer term targets arrive in the summer. You need a good few players to cover each position anyway, so even if they end up squad players that’s alright for me.

Comment #88Dan Burn is the type of player we should have brought in earlier. An upgrade but not a marquee signing, just a solid prem standard CB that improves us and will run through walls for the club.
Relatively cheap (presumably a release clause triggered?) and seasoned pro. Carlos would be the dream, but you still need players like Burn who can come on and do a job.

Comment #89Guimares playing alongside Joe would be great – a Brazilian backbone.
Can’t see Dan Burns happening tbh. It just doesn’t make sense to me that Brighton would let him go at this point in the window and without opportunity to find a replacement. He’s been a regular for them this season

Interesting scenario raised by an agent & some fans. They claim Lingard could apply the Webster ruling & buy out his remaining 6 months for circa £2.5m where #NUFC pay instead of loan fee then sign contact until the end of the season to keep his options open. I’m messenger only

Comment #92People saying Dan Burn isn’t good enough. You do not have four world class CB’s in a squad. Fed and Schar are leaving and unfortunately Clark isn’t even good enough for PL back up anymore. As a fan of the club as well he would be an excellent addition, also if the worst happens.

Comment #93Mund if there is anything to this Webster rule, give yourself a pat on the back because I passed on the information to Keith Patterson 10 mins ago and he has a twitter post up about it just now, he’d hardly write it if he didn’t think there was something to it.

Comment #97IMO. Regarding the Burns transfer from Brighton, a good buy can easily fit in Premiership wise, same as Wood, similar age, experience etc…. both good short/medium term investments for our club, gives us time to buy younger, better players in the near future. Another thing wonder if Bruno can speak English ? Might need big Joe to translate etc….. exciting times atm. Cheers

Comment #120Here’s one thing I don’t get about Sevilla…they sign Martial to try and help them win the league but they even entertained selling Carlos? I don’t understand it…unless they feel they have an alternative in the squad or lined up who is as good.
