Newcastle Increase Offer For Playmaker As Agreement Inches Closer – Report

After reports emerged earlier that Newcastle had reached an agreement in principle for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, there is news coming out of France that an improved offer has now been tabled.

This comes from L’Equipe, who was one of the outlets to suggest a deal was already close to being reached for €40m. They are now reporting that Newcastle have upped the stakes with an offer of €42m plus an additional €10m in bonuses.

So it’s hard to gauge exactly where Newcastle stand in this pursuit with so many countering claims. However, L’Equipe feels an offer of this size could be the one that seals the deal for the 24-year-old.

The original report claimed a deal was agreed for the size of the fee but not the structure of Newcastle’s payments. This could be a case of Newcastle wanting to keep the five-year payment plan in place and are raising the overall offer to placate the cash-strapped French club.

Guimaraes is currently in Ecuador as Brazil prepares for tonight’s World Cup qualifier. Newcastle have verbally agreed to quadruple the playmaker’s wages and can formally start that process once an agreement with Lyon is reached.

Hopefully, this latest offer and whatever structure it holds will be accepted with little resistance. There are less than five days remaining in this window and Newcastle need some breakthroughs which have been hard to come by this month.

Always a pleasure, now can we get back to talking about football? Great, thanks.

Bakker, Burn and Bruno? That would be an outstanding window for sure, though I’d be inclined to agree with JP that adding Lingaard to the mix there would bolster our midfield/attacking options considerably too. We’re too light in the midfield and could really use some reinforcements there. Though I agree that the 3 you’ve mentioned really should be enough to keep us up.

Sigh, it was all going so well, talk of football, transfers, NUFC and then the handbags started again. Think I’ll come back later when the blog isn’t monopolised by tedious, petty sh1t and gets back to being fun. It’s a shame that these 2 seem to think we care about their petty little spat and that they can scream and shout so everyone has to know about it but guess that’s the way of things these days.

It really is a shame regarding Lingard. Even if it was us or West Ham, the lad deserves to be allowed to move. Really hoped we could bring him in. I think if Bruno comes in, it could allow for more freedom from the likes of Willock to play more advanced, hopefully getting better out of him. Grew into the game well against Leeds and was his best game so far this season, mainly as he seemed to be higher up the pitch I imagine. I’d be overjoyed with those 3 coming in but even just Bruno I think will transform our midfield significantly.

Maybe Lingard can try and force a move before Monday. Wishful thinking but never know.

    Munster/Jail

The ‘blowing up shopping centres’ would be a joke largely directed at Northern Irish people due to the inherent connection with the Troubles and PIRA (a conflict which really didn’t impact many people from Munster) hence why people in Dublin probably found it funny when Gervais did it, whereas I, from the North, don’t particularly see the funny side in it but aren’t overly offended by it.

Sort of seems like faux outrage on your part Munster because you two also have a history. Build a bridge and get over it man.

If a more attractive offer doesn’t come in for Lingard he’ll join us on deadline day, I’ve a suspicion Lingard is happy with the situation until Monday at least.

Unfortunately Lingard doesn’t have much leverage with MU.

Worst he can threaten is to squirm with a twisty face while sitting on their bench!

Mund try and bait me into an argument all you want, you clearly get off on it, but I won’t give you the satisfaction my good man.

    Adam

I don’t think our pursuit of Lingard is dead in the water yet, there may be a chance to go back in for him come the end of the window, let’s wait and see. I agree totally with your assessment of Bruno, he gives us a more solid midfield platform from which we can push our more attacking players further up the pitch to impose ourselves on opposition. It gets the likes of Fraser, ASM, Willock all in more advanced, threatening positions and puts oppostion defences on the back foot giving us more room to play. Would be a transformative signing.

Hi Jail, from previous, Yes I,ll have to have a word with Luke Edwards, he seems to have a pessimistic view on NUFC atm, actually I,ve only saw him once this week, and he was attached to his mobile etc….he was just stating that the consortium are struggling to get a lot of the transfer deals pushed through etc…. and we might struggle this season if we don’t get a couple more in. But as we say the proofs in the pudding come 31st January, we,ll wait and see, fingers crossed ! Cheers…

Regarding inappropriate jokes, it’s not easy to get it right on here. Making a joke with a few friends in person means you can probably get away with a bit more as they know your background and whether you mean it in a nasty way or not. People here don’t, and there could be dozens of people online at that time (lurkers or otherwise) who see your comment.

It’s bloody hard to make controversial jokes online without offending someone…though that’s partially because some people who make controversial jokes are genuinely bigots.

I reckon Lingaard is largely happy to sit on a bench earning dollar for his career. Don’t reckon he gives a monkeys who he plays for as long as he gets the most he can and can spend it socialising with z-list celebrities and promoting whatever brand is his flavour of the month. If he gets to play great but that isn’t his motivating factor, much like aubemayang, pogba and myriads of other “Superstars”. Rather have a team of slightly less renown who want to be here and want to play than that. We’ve been there before with Owen, Viduka et al and look where that got us

Yeah that’s very true. Just wonder if he requested a move or showed clear frustration and resentment towards Manure, the money we initially offered may seem more tempting than keeping a clearly frustrated and unhappy player in the squad. Especially as he’d leave for nothing in a few months anyway!

    Ruddy

Agree totally about how Bruno would help our more attack minded players. Really would give us the platform to be on the front foot and try to pin teams back. Would also take some pressure off of the defence having him sit and protect just in front. So even without a Botman or Carlos coming in, our defence shouldn’t be under as much pressure and be able to put in regular decent performances. They’re capable, as they showed at Leeds and even for sections against the likes of Liverpool.

    Jail @ 86

Iv’e had the same thought throughout the transfer window that the way our business has been potrayed in the media, that come the end of the window we end up with Lingard, Phil Jones and Chowdry. Its that bloody line we just can’t seem to get anyone to cross it, living in hope though.

    Dan Burn…you’re next! 🙂 🙂

I’m working on the premise that no other football club in Premiership history has been turned down by more than 20 players in one window…and once we’ve used up the 20 then no-body else can turn us down and we get a wave of players agreeing to come just before the 31st!

    Make and sense?

    Hope not

Agree with Ruddy about a good CDM being pivotal for moving the team higher up the pitch. A good player in that position basically is essential to a team and can be a springboard to attack but aren’t glamorous fantasy the players. How many people have Kante in their FFL team but he would walk into any real-life team. It’s what they enable the team to do that is huge. IMO Bruno or a player of that ilk is what we should have been looking for all along. This could be a transformative position should we get it right

I see some daft journalists are having a pop of the club being in Saudi.

Pointing out the fact that PIF and the Saudi state are separate and we are not owned by the kingdom but we go and watch the Saudi Arabia football team and hinting that it shows we are clearly not 🙄

Did many of these journalists even have an education?
