Newcastle have reached an agreement to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon according to multiple domestic and foreign outlets. The fee is believed to be £33m plus £6.7m in add-ons. The player is set for a medical tomorrow in South America.
This is being confirmed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie as well as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who is reporting that once agent fees are agreed the player will undertake his medical.
As reported on Wednesday, deal for Bruno Guimarães is agreed between Newcastle United & Lyon.
Fee in region of £33m plus add-ons.
Understand the plan is for Guimarães to undergo his medical tomorrow and complete formalities #NUFC ???? https://t.co/YNBRz58Yl4— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) January 27, 2022
Newcastle and OL have reached an agreement for Bruno Guimarães after meeting. Understand fee will be €40m plus €8m bonuses. Bruno’s finally one step away ??? #NUFC

This is a monumental signing for Newcastle to land a player of this stature in the January window. Lyon have been quite reasonable compared to some of the other clubs Newcastle have worked with this window.
Once completed, Guimaraes will be Eddie Howe’s third signing of the window. He will instantly upgrade Howe’s options in the midfield. Newcastle are also working on bringing Mitchel Bakker in from Leverkusen, at least once center-back, and possibly another attacker.
Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens completed his move to Inter Milan earlier today. It appears that Juventus have won the race to sign Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic for a fee that could reach £69m with add-ons.

Obviously Newcastle still need to get Bruno Guimarães over the line, but his arrival puts a much more healthy look to the club’s transfer window. Without him it was looking like a potential failure. A couple more (probably loans, or lesser fees) and it’s been a good window #NUFC

Comment #7Could be the catalyst for other big names. Once one takes the plunge others will join as the fear of relegation is replaced by fear of missing out on the project

One thing about Brazillian players is they do move for the money but they give 100% on the pitch

Aye, Tony Green £140k from Blackpool and Supermac £180k from Luton signed within days of each other. Mind, I can’t remember which one came in first buy remember that they both made a helluva difference. Such a pity that Green’s career was cut short.
