Newcastle are closing in on three signings before Monday’s deadline day. Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes is all but a Magpie with the player undergoing a medical today in Brazil. He has also agreed to personal terms on a contract until 2026.
However, there are two more deals in the works on this Friday with a surprise name now in the mix. In an exclusive, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards is reporting that Newcastle are in pole position to land Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, whose contract runs out in the summer.
The 22-year-old forward, who scored a hat-trick against Sunderland in the League Cup late last month, has emerged as a top attacking target. This development comes as Newcastle’s hope of landing Jesse Lingard on loan appears to have been extinguished.
However, The Telegraph believe Newcastle have been quietly working on this deal since the beginning of the window. Though with Lingard now off the table, negotiations have seemingly been put into overdrive.
Edwards claims talks are progressing well and the young striker could head up to Tyneside over the weekend to complete a move. Crystal Palace reportedly had a bid turned down for the forward earlier in this window.
Newcastle are also expected to make a second run at Brighton’s Dan Burn. An opening bid of £8m was turned down. Newcastle will go in with an improved offer and as long as Brighton do not make ‘unrealistic demands’, an agreement is believed to be within reach.
Edwards seems to suspect that if Newcastle are successful in landing Nketiah and Burn that would wrap up this window with five signings in Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Eddie Nketiah, and Dan Burn.
That would represent a decent haul though the primary goal of significantly strengthening the position of center-back would not have been met. However, it is a notoriously difficult window and our new owners have been tireless in trying to get these signings over the line.

not sure who he would replace my guess would be longstaff
bruno and joelinton will be first on the team sheet
i cant wait to see when the window closes how the team evolves with the new additions and if we stay out it will give us clue as to next season as well

Comment #82At least WHam know what they have to offer to better our bid + make most of money upfront.
If I remember they claimed ours was knocked back because of future payments clauses being unrealistic – that could come back to haunt them 🙂

Hopefully Hendrick goes to the Boro as I think he could do a job there. The sooner we get rid of the deadwood the better.

Definitely!
Out of that line up, you’d like to imagine Trippier is captain – can’t find any confirmation myself either yet

I’m thinking the same but just want to have that confirmation as it normally has it on the lineup. Should be Trips tho and no doubt will send a message of intent for next season.

Comment #88I think we’ll still get a CB (as well as Burn).
We’ll also get Lingard until Summer at least.
If we also get Nketiah. That will be 7 new players,
1 RB, 1LB/CB, 1 CB, 1 CDM, 1 CAM, and 2 Strikers. Almost perfect and certainly a fabulous start to life under our owners. 😀

Daresay he’s pally with Willock and that helps confidence.
We need athletic, fit, attacking players to compliment Max, Miggy and Wilson when he’s back in action.

The way they lied down against the Mackems and celebrated when we went down well it would be justice if we beat them to send them down

Bruno Guimaraes to Newcastle. Deal done and set to be formalised in the next hour or two, following his medical. Brilliant signing. A real statement. #NUFC

I don’t see clubs lining up to buy our players.
I wonder if contracts will be paid off and players made free agents?

Comment #106Definitely like the idea of Nketiah the more I look into his stats.
On the face of it, you read 5 PL goals for Arsenal in about 45 matches.
Then you look at actual minutes played and it adds up to a grand total of 1180 mins or about 13 full 90min matches in the PL for 5 goals.
Same thing with Leeds when he was on-loan there. 17 ‘appearances’ which actually adds up to 5 and a half full matches at 500 mins total, for 3 goals in return.
Exactly the type Bruno needs ahead of him, movement in behind and pace.
Wilson was plying his trade in League 1 at the same age.
No reason he cannot come on strong and be a real goal-getter in the PL, if given the chance.
Might perk up Willock a bit too having an old pal, although he was much more like himself as the match wore on against Leeds last time out anyway.
Burn as a replacement for Clark.
Bruno to transform the midfield.
Lingard on deadline day to add some goals in that supporting ST role, intelligent link-up play and to get out of Trippier’s way as he likes to play narrower than Fraser.
Nketiah to come in so we can finally move Gayle on.

Yeah I don’t get why people keep thinking we need to sell players to make room either. You just unregister them and put a new singing in their place. Don’t have to sell them. They can still train and play for the reserves, if it’s the likes of Hendrick, Gayle and Gillespie for example then it isn’t as if they were going to get much game time anyway. So i’m sure they won’t grumble much about collecting wages till the summer and playing reserve games.

Comment #120Not claiming to be ITK or anything but work with someone who has as lot of contacts at Arsenal and he said “don’t believe everything you hear about Nketiah at the moment”
Just passing on what I hear. He did follow up with, “But I’m fine with him leaving” – he just doesn’t think it’s even true we’re in for him.
