Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

Looking like Dembele off to PSG

Was hoping he’d go to Man U to help with the Lingard situation.

Most exciting transfer deadline day ever as a fan.

    Big day tomorrow

    Non Toon post.

If you’ve not seen it already, I urge you to watch “Belfast” about Kenneth Branagh’s upbringing as a 8 year old in that eponymous City.

So funny, best line “Cos it’s biological”, watch it and you’ll understand.

So refreshing to enter TDD with excitement and hope rather than fear and trepidation.

Is this how other fans felt over the years? Another thing to be added to the list the fat man robbed us of

I have a feeling Newcastle might match previous seasons’ league position but not points. There will be a lot of teams cancelling each other out, seems pretty close. Honestly Newcastle did okay a lot of games, just to get let down by poor decision and mistakes. I’ll make a BOLD prediction, I say Newcastle will finish 13th.

    beermonkey,
If/when we stay up Fed, Schar and Clark will be gone, we will not be buying three £30M+ CB’s in the summer, if we get two top CB’s then you have Burn and Lascelles as back up rotation options.

You asked after the absent Solano Slice?

I’m playing him in the H2H div2 game this week. Looks like he’s still active on there with recent transfer activity. Maybe he’s just taking a break from posting.

A successful team needs a mix of strong, practical players, able to put their foot and head in, win the ball and recycle it along with the more technical flair players. Even Liverpool have that solid spine, sure they can play a bit but generally know and do their job. VVD, Dias etc are brilliant ball players but do their job and keep it simple. T Burn can be that for us. Win the ball and move it onto Bruno et Al, no panic, no fancy stuff just simple win and keep ball. The over elaborate players Stones, David Luis etc are a heart attack waiting to happen. For that I see him as an astute signing for the short term at least then moving to solid sqaud player.

    On Burn v Carlos…

Carlos might be the better player but he’s never played against Prem CF’s and it might take him 10-12 games to tune in to the pace and power of their game.

Burn though knows the craic, he’ll slot straight in and in our position he’s exactly what we need. We also can’t underestimate what it would mean to a Toon fan to help us stay up, he’ll give his all that’s for defo.

If we can get Lingard and Henderson, or either one, that would be a fantastic window.

If we get neither it’s still been very very good.

Would NUFC want Targett past the summer should they stay up? doubt it. Seems like a signing for the sake of it, no better than what we have, last thing we need is Phil Jones types in this squad that we can’t get rid of down the line.

I really hope fans won’t be disappointed if we sign Burn and that’s it. Honestly, this has been the most exciting and successful transfer window for many years! A few months ago we couldn’t dream of attracting players of the calibre of Trippier and Bruno, and signing proven and experienced PL players in Burn and Wood is very important for our squad.

    Evening all,

So that’s Dan Burn in the bag. Fantastic signing for us, make no mistake about it. Clever signing by Eddie this. Burn will improve our back line along with our chances from set pieces. Burn will be up for the fight and exactly what you need for a relegation battle. You need battlers and passion in the dressing room as it’s infectious.

Bruno, well what can I say, not sure which was the last signing we made that is on the same level. This signing is huge, possibly the most proactive signing we’ve made in 20 ,years. I’m exited by this and as above in Burn. The window so far, is 8/10 IMO and nearly there for the perfect window… Drink it up everyone. It’s the beginning of an amazing journey and I cannot wait to see the line up against Everton. Gonna be a great aptomsphere on Tuesday. 🙂

Hope we get Lingard, however on my way back from my work place in London earlier I heard it on the radio that Mason Greenwood is in serious trouble (not going on about it, sickening) My thoughts after digesting what I’d heard were it would scupper the Lingard move to us for obvious reasons as they’d be short in that department obviously.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this as I was 100% confident that Lingard was joining us tomorrow and along with a striker (Zapata) would have been a 9.5/10 I was expecting. I’ll be on another planer if we get Lingard in tomorrow as this guy has the potential to be our best signing in decades. Just my opinion though.

It’s now down to us to help these players get the wins we need, and some will need to be big scalps, home and away. Very little margin for error now, especially if any of the other bottom 4 pick up form. We will lose games we expect to win, so we will have to win games we expect to lose. Every game matters.
