Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

Interesting that some t0sser on the radio called our recruitment drive a scattergun approach…when in fact it’s created enormous tension between lots of football clubs all over the world, none of whom want to miss out on the cash we’re splashing because most are in a perilous financial state.

So going into the last day, we have about 10 or more clubs thinking a deal could be done, but only 4 or 5 are of any genuine interest to us, but it’ll be keeping the owners of the clubs where we have a genuine interest scared shitless the money might go somewhere else.

You call it scattergun…Lord Scattercash calls it pure genius!

Well done Amanda and team…you had most of us a bit worried three weeks in, but you’ve played a blinder

    round of applause!

Mund and Raj of Hailsley are both correct. Bakker might be better at going forward, but Targett doing better defensively. These stats reflected on their team performance too. Resulting Leverkusen scoring more. Targett defensive better stats resulting Villa conceded about the same amount of goals as Leverkusen despite lesser possession. Stats are fairly accurate on how the players are performing when you compare with how their team is playing. Not blindly looking at stats.

You keep playing your daft game and I’ll coach real football.

You can’t help yourself every single day. Leaving lines for both me and Munster.

You have admittedly said you don’t know much outside of England and that’s fine but it’s also fine for others to know there onions.

Like I said you couldn’t even lace my boots.

Now try and enjoy today without causing dramas and goading others.

I can see ASM taking Ekitike under his wing. It’s going to be a special second half to the season.

This is shaping up to be a canny day. Targett and Burn surely fit straight in to the team, twenty minutes for Bruno then to start against Villa. Not sure if Etikite is a starter, we might even do the correct thing and introduce him slowly.

    Mund,
I simply asked you if you’d seen Bakker play, you threw back a load of shite about me suggesting Holding and Phillips, I also suggested Targett when Digne signed for Villa, you’re knocking my knowledge and we’re signing Burn who is in exactly the same mould as a non spectacular I said.
As for Munster I’m asking him what he knows about Etikite that makes him think he’s not suitable for us. If you think that’s goading then you’re obviously a very prickly individual.

With Targett coming in as well, it’s pretty obvious Burn will be playing as a left sided centre half.

I think it would be reasonable to suggest Lascelles and Burn would not be a great pairing, so Lascelles could very likely be on his way out in the summer, Clark this window, and possibly Dummett, defo the Longstaffs, a couple of keepers, Hendrick, Krafth, possibly Ritchie, defo Hayden in the summer when fit and defo Gayle.

All change at the next stop!

A transfer deadline day where we might sign players, that in itself is something I had nearly given up hope of ever seeing again.

Sounds promising too, Burn, Targett (loan) and Ekitike in. Plus still seems like work is being done to try and get Dean Henderson and/or Lingard.

Feel a bit sorry for Lewis but Targett in good in a back 4, Lewis probably better suited at wing back.

Clark and Hendrick off to Boro hopefully, Woodman to Bournemouth, need another couple to go really, Gillespie and Gayle potentially?

I made it 10 mins into the day without checking the transfer news. My boss will be proud. Actually have a lot to get through today so will be working late (prob add 3 hours for distractions!).

Burn – Looks to be all but confirmed, chuffed with that.
Etikite – Only know of him from youtube/reports. Looks talented so just have to hope they know what they’re doing.
Targett – Hopefully we are pursuing other options or it’s a loan. Not a fan.
Lingard – Looks to be pushing for the move, would be a real coup.

Is there a surprise in store? I haven’t watched deadline day in years! Probably since fans were banned as someone brought a dildo haha!

Exciting day indeed … For once! I think Targett is another for the sensible approach, along with Burn & Wood. Bruno and Trips dramatically improve us and the young French lad looks like he could be a rising star. I don’t know too much about him to be honest tho. What’s the story with outgoings? Do lower league teams still have an extra couple of weeks for a loan window or was that done away with?

Bakker’s (or Leverkusen’s) clearly not keen to deal at this time, that could change in the Summer though. Targett’s a good stop gap.
Burn’s also a solid signing (as well as a local lad) both know the league and should bed in quickly.

Ekitike’s a very exciting prospect by all accounts, can’t wait to see what he brings.
… and there’s still over 13hrs to go.
What a window this is panning out to be!

Cantwell is a strange one but Bournemouth seem more likely to be in the Premier League next season than Norwich.

The lads clearly talented and easy to make comparisons with James Maddison who was also at Norwich, has that cocky arrogance about him. Norwich fans seem to like him but read the odd comment about him not training well and spending most his time on social media.

Would still like Max Aarons in the summer, wouldn’t start but can learn from Trippier and become our long term right back. Actually I think he’d push Trippier too and Trippier can be our Cancelo haha who can play right or left back.
