Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.
Hi @NUFC!!I’m ready for this new challenge ????? pic.twitter.com/lHkLKStnXH
— Bruno Guimarães (@brunoog97) January 30, 2022
Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.
Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.
It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.
Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.
Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.
There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.
There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.
So much needs to change for Lingard to happen. Player is very keen, but will Man Utd lower their demands? Burn move is subject to personal terms and passing a medical. #NUFC

Comment #402I’m personally happy with Targett, he was Villas player of the Season last year, has good delivery and a good engine, I think he offers more and is a better player than our current crop of left backs to include Ritchie, even if there is an option to buy in the summer if we then also went out and bought a new left back of higher calibre we’d be instantly improved as a team having Targett and Lewis as additional left back cover, something we’ve not had for years! I just look at it as a little piece of a bigger puzzle.
If we sign Burn, Targett & Ekitike I’d put this window down as a success, Lingard if possible I’d say thats the best January window any team has had, in terms of instant improvement in the playing squad, I can remember.

Maybe not your words but I think Man U have so many midfielders at their disposal that Greenwood going rogue won’t stop them letting Lingard go.
I still don’t think he’ll come to us, but I think he’ll defo be going somewhere…possibly Everton.

Comment #406Just imagine getting rid of Hendrick and Clark on the same day.
Trippier – very good, shrewd and astute move and will be captain.
Wood – limited but experienced warhorse whose nous could be vital.
Burn – another shrewd stop gap with aerial dominance but can play a bit too.
Guimares – brings the house down, spectacular signing.
Ekitike – potentially amazing at a knockdown price.
Targett – decent stopgap
Anything else a bonus.

Comment #408Busy day at work today, so my chances or keeping up on here and joining in the chat is almost impossible. I’ll be checking the news as often as I can though that’s for sure haha
Really happy if we bring in Ekitike. Regarded as a real top prospect and it’s amazing to be a club that may actually get future stars in at the start of their journey. Not just watching other clubs bring in all the best young talent. Great sign of intent!

Comment #415I said last night that I felt we would sign Ekitike / Zapata and Lingard after Dan Burn. So far that looks on course to happening but it can be even better with our new owners leaving no stone unturned to make us a force to bw reckoned with.
Exciting times!

Comment #419Dummet’s injury prone (currently out again according to the EPL injury table with no return date) plus he’s out of contract in the summer. Doubtful he’s part of any plan going forward.
Targett makes total sense right now.

Comment #435Munster does tend to make these very snap judgements on people. Arteta, Frank and he who can’t be mentioned are all c–p according to him, Howe is already being sniped at and now apparently Ekitike doesn’t pass muster either. Well if Munster doesn’t rate Ekitike I’d say it’s happy days if he comes.

Comment #436Haha Barkel I appreciate that but maybe next window. This one I just want players in with no heartattacks!
I think the idea will be to get the deals in sorted ASAP and then focus on offloading. We have players like Hendrick, Gayle and Clark to offload as well as loans for the likes of Woodman and Matty.
