Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

Love how we’re getting some very seasoned pragmatic types mixed in with a great sprinkling of magic wow factor guys on board too. Everything just feels so positive now with great owners and a super likeable guy in EH. All the toxicity, anger, bitterness, serial neglect, lethargy and depressive outlook of the previous owner and manager just washed away.

Haha fair enough mate! I admit that is exciting, especially the deals that happen after the deadline as the paperwork was sorted in time. I’m more than happy if we get all our business done early though.

Maybe 1 very last minute out of nowhere deal 😉

For 14 years the Harrison’s have pretty much been able to take the day off on transfer deadline day!

Looks like those days are gone! 🙂 😉
Many thanks for all the work you do!

If Targett arrives then that’s Ritchie gone – in fact he was probably off to Bournemouth anyhow.
So that’s Gayle, Hendrick, Ritchie, Woodman, Clark to go…and which others? I’ve got a horrible feeling that we’ll see Fede leave for some reason because of his injury record this season

Matt Targett to #nufc on loan until the end of the season is a done deal, Hugo Ekitike is discussing personal terms after a bid was accepted. [Fabrizio Romano]

Do we renew the squad after the transfer deadline? Meaning can we move players (Hendrick for example) to the reserves if we don’t loan them out?

Dubai, yea we need to submit a revised 25 man squad tomorrow. So if we fail to get players out of the squad they’ll still be able to train with the first team but won’t be eligible to play.

Hendrick is in talks with Boro over a loan move, apparently Clark could also join them not sure if that’s on loan or permanent move.

    Surely Gayle goes

Anderson and Matty Longstaff hopefully get loan moves sorted

Also think Gillespie could leave, Langley can be 3rd choice.
