Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.
Hi @NUFC!!I’m ready for this new challenge ????? pic.twitter.com/lHkLKStnXH
— Bruno Guimarães (@brunoog97) January 30, 2022
Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.
Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.
It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.
Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.
Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.
There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.
There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.
So much needs to change for Lingard to happen. Player is very keen, but will Man Utd lower their demands? Burn move is subject to personal terms and passing a medical. #NUFC

Comment #41Jail, you seem to have an issue. We need a guy like Burn, and Brighton have made good money on him. Good deal for both parties. What’s your beef?

Comment #42Clark has been a good servant but his confidence is gone and its not coming back
He’s cost us bad goals that have cost us points and the team always looks nervous when he plays
Red card against Norwich
Penalty against Brighton
Palace goal
Wolves game both goals shocking defending
City calamity
Sure if you look at other games but that’s a lot of points dropped by mistakes he has made

Ousmane Dembélé deal. Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been in contact today over potential swap deal but no solution has been found. ?? #FCB
Clubs will try again in the coming hours but Dembélé deal on Deadline Day seems still complicated.
Man Utd, not even interested.

Evening mate, another very good post, i really love your enthusiasm it rubs off and really lifts the spirits, some great contributions on the blog today by all concerned. Fenham as far as i`m concerned even if we dont sign another player its still been a very encouraging and successful window, although i get the impression there could still be a few goodies still to come mate HWTL

Comment #47Right, I might be stupid, but couldn’t we just buy Lingard outright? If they are asking for 12 million for a loan, surely we could say 15 mill to buy. If he won’t come then move on. I would love him here. I think he would be a great signing, but if he won’t commit, why bother. Sign permanently if you want to come.
Lampard has signed at Everton. Rather have Howe, personally. I hope he fails big style. I’d love to see the scouse mackems relegated.

Comment #49Great window so far with the possibility it could get even better tomorrow.
Just hope we don’t get over optimistic for the Everton game, with a corresponding let down if it doesn’t go well.
They’ll know they’re in a relegation battle and with the traditional new manager bounce, they’ll be no pushover, especially on their own turf.
They have a strong lineup and should be a lot higher in the table than they are.
Just saying.

Comment #51Legolas – Lingard will still want to keep his options open in the summer when he’s a free agent and can command a higher wage. He won’t want Man Utd to pocket that £12m when he could have it in the summer instead.
There’s no up side for Lingard to sign permanently now.

Regarding the Predictions I’ve been thinking about this and I’m toying with the idea in the first few days after TDD (tomorrow) allowing changes to Top Goal Scorer or Player of the Season to one of the new signings – what do people think?

I haven’t managed to get out singing since before Christmas unfortunately due to respiratory issues (I had a CT Scan yesterday at North Tyneside GH) also had major problem with my neck and twice prescribed Diazepam (Valium) I was away with the fairies when taking that stuff No alcohol allowed either. If you were looking at the clock at Noon I was unable to see 11 or 1 0’clock without turning my body. BTW I love singing Carrickfergus and love an Irish breakfast at The Central Bar over the road from the Castle.
I hope you enjoyed your trip to SJP even if it was very sad losing a goal 2 mins from time.
Take care Bonny Lad 🙂

Comment #59By the way we need a block button on this blog ASAP. The poster Ketsbaia9 is carrying out a full on WUM assault on this blog and Jane, I’m not arsed whatsoever that he is a long term poster and I’m a new poster (or whatever your called). It’s a blog for everyone and anyone who genuinely support’s our great club wherever that may be in the world, not just the old timer posters who’ve posted on here years (although I respect you all, mostly)
Dear Dr Ed, Wife, Neil,.
Could you please explore the idea of a block button which IMO could ensure this blog cuts the tedious arguments and trolling down massively and ensure a more enjoyable read. It’s sometimes difficult to skip posts.
I would like to thank you (the Harrison’s) for all your envevours to keep this great amazing blog ticking along. Many thanks and much appreciated onwards and upwards. HWTL!! 🙂

Honestly we’ve been though the mill and we have not come out the other end of that dark tunnel. Great times magic. When you planning on getting back to gods country for a match? 😉

Fenham – it’s sad that you don’t find Kets amusing as many of us long-time posters do. Maybe it’s just the familiarity that this blog and random Kets posts go hand in hand…but each to their own. I find him essentially harmless and just a bit of a parody account really. It does surprise me how many people engage with him though, although he does say some normal things occasionally!

Comment #63I`m personally delighted we didn`t try to sign Dembele, that guy is real prima donna and a mercenary as far as i`m concerned and definitely not the the type of player we need in a relegation fight, all the players we have signed so far are good solid pros, and will add unity to the squad. The new owners have obviously done a lot of research on the type of players they want to bring to the club, very commendable and they deserve a lot credit HWTL

Even Bruno only given a 4.5, it’s how it should be done, if he’s class you give him a new improved one after a season. Ashley gave out five year deals so they could be sold before they wanted a pay rise, very few players got new improved deals a year in to their contracts, I can only think of Tiote and ASM and that was probably to remove buy out clauses or insert massive ones.

Totally agree with you as it’s your opinion if you want to interact, engage and read someone’s posts. It’s why we should have that choice to block a poster you are having to skip past every post or someone that offends, it would move us in the right direction of arguments not manifesting as much. Sometimes it gets so toxic on here (however not as bad as it was if I was tbh)

Comment #76martoon – it’s not so easy to just not read someone’s posts and if someone really gets on your nerves, it’s just there in your face. Much worse when someone is directing posts at you but I’ve never seen Kets target someone else on here.
But there’s one poster I think many of us would have blocked if we had the option. Hopefully he’s gone now or, at least, gone temporarily and on an absolute final warning.

Comment #79FtC – I never (or at least very rarely) engage with Kets because I don’t see the point. It’s like engaging with a parody comedy page like The Daily Mash on Facebook. I figure it’s just there to make me smile a little and I move on.
Arguments have definitely got a bit better recently but would be nice if the only arguments we had were things like whether we should start ASM on the left or through the centre…
