Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

I have a problem walking and the last time we were in Donegal I sat on a wall singing whilst my wife walked along the Strand (Beaches in England) the beech was opposite Tory Island (Nowt to do with politics) there were less than 10 people on “The Strand” and it must have over five miles long – my wife was just a speck in the distance until she started to walk back!

    Wonderful experience!

I wouldn’t mind Matt Target from Villa. I was very surprised when they signed the mercenary that is Digne. Target is a very very decent Left full back or wing back. Gets forward, pacey, can beat his man with a cracking cross on him and a too professional.

I can see Eddie is building a team of Brits with PL experience with splashes of continental class and wizardry. Going to be an interesting day/night tomorrow. I’ll be glued to SSN 🙂

Newcastle closing in on more new signings with Matt Targett likely to be the latest arrival on loan from Aston Villa.

Not the best or worst option but I am sure Burn will keep an eye on him.Defence is starting to look like it is up to the task in hand.

    TDS,

Can’t recall exactly what the millionaire statement was with regards to because of the Carling intake level! Was it Panini stickers?

I think Ottawa won’t object if we put wor Kets in the halfwit section, until he proves otherwise of course. The door always needs to be left ajar for redemption 😆

Targett is on par with Lewis. Both not good enough. Dummett has to go now if we bring a left back in. Been at the club too long and has always been the worst player.

Me to mate 😎 fckn class isn’t it! I’m proper buzzing as I’ve been desperate for years for us to have a proper CM after Diame left and now we have Bruno who is more than I could ever of imagined. He will set the standard now and a possible future captain after Trippier hangs up his boots. Can’t wait to see him on the pitch! Busting for Everton now! 😆 that’s not to forget what else might come before window closes

Bakker would be perfect, however Target can do a job until the summer to keep us in the PL if we cannot get Bakker in. You never know what’s in store tomorrow though with these new owners of ours. Literally anything is possible now. From where we were in October and the negativity we all endured to how we are talking, the positivity and feeling we have now is unbelievable. Would make a great film even better than Goal lol

    Mund,

Hopefully it’s on the box, will be a cracking game with their manager bounce and our new players bounce, but they will get turned over as we will see a whole new set up on show. Will Bruno be available for this game as he is in Brazil still isn’t he, what’s your thoughts about him being available as he has done shit loads of traveling etc.

Looks like we’re trying to buy a whole team. Lot of players to integrate but most know the PL and Howe is a good coach. So far we’ve improved the first team, whilst also providing greater strength in depth, which is just as important.
