Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

Intriguing how Bruno is going to partner up with Joelinton. If they click it should be very good.

Going up to stay with my mum next Saturday (her 87th birthday on the Sunday) and hoping to stay for the week, so I can squeeze in both games. My mum thinks I just visit her for the football. Nothing I say will convince her otherwise! Missus not too happy. Last time I was let out for footy I came back with the big C.

I’ve had a pain in the neck (it was Ashley but thankfully he’s gone) for ages and I keep waking up. Had some diazepam for a back spasm and that did the trick. Slept like a baby.

Thanks beermonkey, it’s what I think also tbh. What a player to bring on with 20-30mins left. The buzz it would create would raise the hairs on your arm’s. It would be some instruction.

What a day! Looks like tomorrow will be manic. There will be no work done ?

Not a fan of Matt Targett in the slightest. My mates a Villa fan and does rate him though.

Some reports suggesting 4 more in? Madness! I assume we’ll see some loans out.

Question about visa: If a player has an EU visa, how long does it take them to receive a UK visa? I read somewhere that Bruno will fly directly to Newcastle after his Brazil game but will his visa be approved by then?

If I was Howe and Bruno ain’t coming till Thursday, is give the lads Monday and Tuesday off after the camp, then have everyone in weds Thurs for a bit fitness and drilling then Fri, sat , (day off Sunday) Monday to work the team and get some understanding of structure etc. Plenty time for good pros to build a bit, plus Bruno could be watching videos, learning patterns of play, set pieces before arrival so that he has a head start. No need to not play him Tuesday

Don’t get me wrong brilliant getting all these players in need them – My only worry is if we get to many players in at once is might take a while to bed them al in into a style of play and everyone knowing other players strengths and weaknesses

@ Charlie Fair point about too many new faces and integrating into team. I believe in Eddie, and the coaching staff will surely bed them in slowly. I also think he will mostly start with the same players vs Everton as Leeds except those who went off injured.

    Team for Everton
    Dubs
    Trips–Schar–Burn–Manquillo
    Willock–Shelvey–Bruno G
    Fraser–Wood–Maxi

Fingers crossed everyone stays fit till then. And of course, we may yet have some new faces who will walk straight into the team.

I’m scraping a win 35-32 against Solano at present, which should be the outcome at the end of the game week.

Yeah a lot of these pundits really are clueless it’s quite a British Media thing to always assume because a player was good once he is worth move to a “lesser” team

Look at the nick of Everton thy have signed pretty much all of the top 6 cast offs for years

Delli Alli should be a last resort and even then attitude wise it’s a big risk

Charlie I don’t thínk Eddie will rush people, but that’s the worth of Burn and the risk of a Botman – Premier league readiness. He’s a good signing. We probably paid over the odds but he’ll sweat blood for nufc as a northumbrian lad I’m sure. It’s a good signing by Eddie and Co.

Presumably a reader controlled ‘Block’ function would only block posters that they don’t want to see, but only on their PC, phone or whatever? If that’s so, fine.

But if the intention is for individuals to block posters and restrict other users seeing said posters’ posts, then that’s censorship managed by individuals posters. Not clever.

One thing’s for sure is that Kets’s been posting for yonks and has never, in my experience been rude, offensive or aggressive.

If folk don’t like posters, skip ’em.

If Dr Ed has concerns about posters, then it’s his prerogative whether to act.

Who cares what Darren Bent thinks and all those so called pundits like him! Like a bunch of crybabies.
As far as a block feature is concerned, it would have to be for each individual user. We couldn’t have posters blocking people we wanted to read.

I’m assured yet again that Eddie Nketiah to Newcastle is very possible before the end of the window if they cannot secure another forward.

Jesse Lingard also still very possible.

A lot of work to do on both deals, but a decent chance of one or both before the deadline. #NUFC
