Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.
Hi @NUFC!!I’m ready for this new challenge ????? pic.twitter.com/lHkLKStnXH
— Bruno Guimarães (@brunoog97) January 30, 2022
Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.
Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.
It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.
Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.
Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.
There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.
There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.
So much needs to change for Lingard to happen. Player is very keen, but will Man Utd lower their demands? Burn move is subject to personal terms and passing a medical. #NUFC

Cheers for that, watched it 3 times it’s that good a vid!
Little dig at Arsenal in it. Like they were sniffing about, but were never serious, and we were from start to finish!

I agree with you mate. Good post…
He will be some weapon to bring on with 20-30mins left. The lift it will give to the stadium and more importantly, the players when/if he comes on as a sub to make his debut. The lad will know he’s Meade an unbelievably good decision when he feels the SJP atmosphere.

Comment #210I don’t think we can realistically judge if we overpaid for a player or not in the here and now, it’s all very subjective.
At the end of the season and the table says we are where we are then judgements can be made. Fair and balanced approach and all that 😆

Comment #213Can we put a price on being a PL team next year? I don’t think we can and I think the owners agree with what they’ve done so far.
It’s all about staying in the league and building big in the summer and from that onwards and upwards

Comment #217Cheers York / Mund – either way it’s definitely on the box and I cannot wait to watch it.
I hope and pray that Eddie prepairs and sets us up well and don’t allow a Watford performance, I was hurting for a full evening from that. But I know we will turn it on and beat Everton. Would only be 1 point behind them also to puke the pressure on. All games are cup finals now 🙂

Comment #219Got an 18 slab of Carling in for the morn by way of preparation for the longhaul,
Bruno gets unveiled today, ahead of my schedule and I’ve slurped half already! Think I’m going to need a Transfer Deadline Day window of opportunity to pop out and get reinforcements in the fridge the morn.
It’s all just so problematic this new owner business, if it was an Ashley window we’d be done by 1600 and I could go to the dirty boozer 😆

Comment #229With regards to our spending in this window we have stayed in our limits and within their plans. We have not splashed too extravelently. We are still the top spenders across Europe though (haha amazing isn’t it and when did that last happen?) and not in the position of damaging our FFP chances. This window is important the new owners have responded as you’d imagine from these professionals.

Comment #230Beer monkey! I’m sure we have a lot of lee way, because we are not in debt, and I think it’s over three years, plus what money we can bring in.
So don’t think it will be a problem for a few years.

Comment #235From earlier. Bill’s Son, to say that Carlos may not cope with Premier League forwards is ridiculous. He plays Champions League matches. He’s 28, not 18, he’s taken on the best forwards in Europe for years. I’ve got nothing against this bloke from Brighton but the club has the money and they should have spent it on Carlos if they are serious about avoiding relegation

That’s a valid point. I think it all depends how Bruno settles as to whether we stay up or not. I wasn’t confident with just Trippier and Wood coming in although
I do think they make us better.
It’s the midfield that’ll keep us up, break up the opposition team’s play and we can transition quick the other way. We’ve got the speed in forward areas so there’s no reason it can’t work effectively.
I’m more upbeat now about the prospect of staying up, but reserve judgement at the moment as the table doesn’t lie.

Comment #237I think Darren Bent’s right. We’ve signed one decent player so far this window when we need at least 6 in order to stay up. Can’t see us signing 5 quality players tomorrow. It’ll just be players who are worse than what we’ve got now. It will come back to haunt us.

Comment #238Players who could realistically leave the club tomorrow:
Gillespie
Woodman
Krafth
Clark
Dummett
Ritchie
Hendrick
Sean Longstaff
Matty Longstaff
Dwight Gayle
I would’ve said Hayden as well, but he’s injured. Lascelles needs to go. Is Dan Burn even better than him? I don’t think so.

Comment #240If Dan Burn was that good, he would’ve been called up to the England squad by now. He can’t even get ahead of Coady, Mings and Tarkowski who are poor/average players.
