Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.
Hi @NUFC!!I’m ready for this new challenge ????? pic.twitter.com/lHkLKStnXH
— Bruno Guimarães (@brunoog97) January 30, 2022
Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.
Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.
It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.
Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.
Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.
There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.
There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.
So much needs to change for Lingard to happen. Player is very keen, but will Man Utd lower their demands? Burn move is subject to personal terms and passing a medical. #NUFC

Couldn’t quite get the drift of your post about Kets, but if you’re saying I’ve missed any questionable posts of his, you’re probably right. I tend to skip his as a rule. I never said he hadn’t posted any such posts, I think I said as far as I know etc.
Anyway, the point I was driving at was that it’s up to Dr Ed et al to act on offensive posts and posters, not individuals as the proposed ‘Block’ facility implied.
Whatever, I trust you are and have been well.

That BBC piece was a surprise. I was wondering whether its news coverage would get past Everton, Lampard, Liverpool and Diaz.
And, one of the media had a piece which referred to ‘United’, meaning NUFC. That will rattle ManU which the UK media have always referred to an ‘United’ a tag it had the audacity to try to copyright for their own exclusive use.
Early signs of bigger things ahead.

Sheesh, that was 2011, with ten more years of Ashley ahead of us.
Wayne Rooney should take note of the Pardew article. A sign of what to expect if Ashley takes ownership of Derby County.

Nesides Burn, I am expecting just 1 attacking option to sign, loan or permanent, attacking mid fielder or CF.
Not expecting a LB, another CB, or GK

Comment #253I think we are trying to get:
1. Lingaard and Origi both
2. If none of the above come, then maybe Ekitike
3. Matt Target
4. Leno or Henderson
5. Coady

13th eh. Brave prediction.
I’m still looking at what the bookies think regarding staying up. The odds are about even and I agree.
It’s three teams out of a possible four, simple as that.
We need quite a few wins and we’ve left it late so, should we survive, we’ll be scraping through.
I do think we’ll be more competitive in more games but we were far behind most teams beforehand.
So, reality check: brilliant window, hope the players hit the ground running. We’re not suddenly out of trouble but have high hopes.
Thirteenth? I’ll take that! But I’ll still be thrilled even with just enough points to stay in the league.

Comment #257In addition to the four we have already signed, I am doubtful we will sign anyone else today. ALTHough I am hopeful of two more, what we have should see us pull clear of relegation and then we can really start making a difference to the squad.

Up early this morning, taking the oldies to the airport. Thank gawd today is the last day of endless speculation (until the summer at least) I definitely think we’ll see Dan Burn in and if that was the end of it I’d be more than happy, however I do think we might have a couple more bonus signings. Targett on loan would be an excellent addition and will be itching to prove Gerrard wrong, Lingard in would be the icing on the cake.

Comment #260If Eddie and the team remedy matters in the second half of the season then that’s all we ask. From there the rebuilding of the club upwards begins.
Imagine though if you’re a player denied a move to us at the beginning of the revolution and miss out on the opportunity.
Coady is just the type of player we need, maybe Cantwell, Lingard and the elusive striker.
Daresay of the six clubs in cahoots that cartel is cracking apart now. Man City plough their own field and all would be quite happy for ManYanks to be cut adrift as in the short term 5 vying for the top 4 slots is preferable to 6, until we arrive on the scene in a couple of seasons.
ManYanks fans have attacked the Glaisters, Ronaldo is the joker, they sacked Ole, now Greenwood. Would think their ‘sponsors’ are thinking twice about their investments there.
Broken brand now, the Ratners of football.

Comment #261I loved that yesterday. “I don’t rate Matt Targett but my Villa mate does” Exactly!!! Let’s be honest here, how many times a year do we watch Villa or Brighton and when we do we watch the attacking MF/FWDS, who specifically watches Dan Burn or Matt Targett, it says it all when one of our fans doesn’t rate a player but the fans who watch them week in week out do. I think some people are too quick to write a player off because they’re not a big name.

I wouldn’t rule Everton out of the mix. There have been some seriously experienced managers at Everton who can’t handle the rot at the club. I hope I’m not proved wrong but I just don’t see what Lampard is going to bring to the table.

Its true that few people follow other clubs and watch all their games, specially their defenders.
I would find it hard to name 11 players from all the PL clubs.
Regarding today, I am most interested in a goal scoring midfielder or a CF.

I’d like to see a LB come in. Dummet is too unreliable and I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but his ONE injury free season was in the Championship, maybe his body is not cut out for the rigours of the PL, there’s too much pressure on Lewis to perform and Matt Ritchie is simply not a LB in the way Ryan Taylor wasn’t, they were both played there because our former owner wouldn’t pay for a squad fit for purpose. Lingard, Burn and Targett and today is going to be brilliant.

Comment #269I read we are after Henderson on loan and selling Woodman to Bournemouth.
That would mean we would have to buy Jesse Lingard outright as not permitted to loan 2 players from same club!
also reading there could be SIX players in tomorrow!

If we do not get a LB, Manquillo will play there for this season.
Burn, Lingaard and Targett sounds brilliant.
I dont think we will have 5 or 6 incomings though, as is being quoted, unless one of the clubs cave in to our older existing offers.

Comment #277I really wish we show respect to outgoing players. They have been there during difficult years and kept us up. Yes, some of them arent at the levels of the ambitions of our new owners but that doesent excuse us for name calling and using degrading adjectives. No one has really downed their tools and created a rift.
Perhaps later in their careers they come back and take up some positions like managing player loans etc. Who knows they might have a talent in management.
