Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

Wow. “#nufc are closing in on a deal for Reims striker Ekitike. Despite knockback earlier in the window they have stayed in touch and it could go through today.” [@LukeEdwardsTele]

Happy Transfer Deadline Day to all 😎

What a crazy January it’s been, I’ve never experienced anything like it before.

Lots to be done today and hopefully a few more signings to suit before the days out

Performance wise, Bakker and Targett quite on par. I prefer Targett just because he have the experience and proven in EPL. Don’t think Rogerio and Tagliafico will suit EPL though. Especially Tagliafico, seems on the declining side. But surely Newcastle have properly analyse these before going for the players, just gonna have faith in them.

Sounds like Lingaard is waiting at the SJP gate. Once he gets permission from Ragnick, he will enter. 🙂

I’d say Bakker was the better of the two.

I think we will be ok with not buying a LB in this window

As long as they push for Lingard, Burn and a striker a LB would be a bonus

It seems he wants the move, we want the move and some of our players will want the move. Can we get it done? I remain hopeful as I think Lingard is key with making it a comfortable end to the season.

If Lingard gets close enough, say, off the m62 & on to the A1m, the giant Toon magnet should do the rest.
    😀

It’s all a case of will. A battle of 3 wills. Will we wait ’til the last second, will manu get real, will Lingard push to get out of the quagmire. Surely, he’s a busted flush in manu now? We can afford to wait & we can afford whoever, too. They know it.
I just want Lingard to want to come. For him and us.

Unfortunately loans have limits. I think we may move on from Lingaard and get Ekitike in if it takes too long. Then loan a GK and Targett.

Sorry, bit late to the party on this but on the Kets front…. really? Some of you need to calm down.
He’s been posting on this blog for a long time, okay, so his opinions are a bit out there and I’m convinced he’s on commission from Marveaux but if he’s a WUM then so what? Just ignore his posts!
Some of us love his unique brand of Football Manager like ability to ‘pick a signing’.

What’s that got to do with the price of bacon.

I keep up with European football unlike yourself.

That’s why you pick Holding, Jones, Chambers because your football knowledge is restricted to the English league, which is totally fine just like it is for me to have a wider scope.

Some s#@t goes to the last second, and this is it, we get to test the resolve of many negotiators today. Look ’em in tge eye and ask if they want our deng. Does ‘that’ player wanna come. Last chance saloon!
Also, we get to see who’s trying to take the piss and note it for windows of the future.
I reckon it’s been a very interesting learning curve for the board.
Within a year or so, we’ll be the ones with the upper hand and any grief now could impact on how/who we deal with in the future.
We ain’t going away and ultimately, we’re headed in one direction, up! They may slow us slightly, the press may try to ridicule, diss, continue to ignore etc. But we will be both, the irresistible force and the immoveable object. Maybe we can also help break the cartel at the top table, including a few football stereotypes?
    😉

Newcastle are making a Deadline Day move for Hugo Ekitike, as per @LukeEdwardsTele
We understand talks are taking place for a fee in the region of £25m, plus add-ons.
Newcastle’s previous bid was £29m (including add-ons), but they’ve upped their offer for one last try

    I’d happily take Targett, too.
Or most of who we’ve been linked with. Most will be; we’ve asked about them and it’s been reported. Some will be back up buy potentials. But asking, then waiting to see what sticks is probably what we have to do in a jan window, in our current situation.

So you’ve been watching a lot of Bayern Leverkusen or have you just being playing him on FIFA, I suspect the latter given your penchant for video games. In all due respect, I think my take on the type of singings, difficulty and relegation clauses even the opinion of a short term DoF not being priority have been a lit more accurate than yours, christ, you haven’t even acknowledged we’re in a relegation battle yet.

Have the day off so going to play golf and will then be following TDD without having to slack off work!

Poor day – Burn falls through and we make no more signings.
Good day – Burn completes and we get the 4 we really needed
Very good day – also get one more quality player
Incredible day – end up with Burn, Botman, Ekitike, and Lingard. 😉

Folks, let’s not forget that seeing the highlights of a player a few times on YouTube is from the Denis Wise school of scouting…

It’s great from a fan’s perspective to get some insight but not a patch on someone insight when they’re following a club/league regularly and have some genuine insight. Specifically interesting when our foreign fans can give some information on how a player has been doing in their country’s league.
