Guimaraes ‘Ready’ As Newcastle Push For A Couple More Signings

Newcastle announced the fantastic signing of Bruno Guimaraes earlier this afternoon. The 24-year-old joins Newcastle on a four-and-a-half year contract from Olympic Lyonnaise.

The midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil but has taken to Twitter to post the following message to Newcastle fans.

Lyon issued a statement soon after Newcastle’s confirmation. They have revealed that the fee for the Brazilian could top €50m should Newcastle beat the drop over the next two campaigns.

Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through the door. Brighton’s Dan Burn should be the fourth signing of the window after Newcastle agreed on a £13m fee with Brighton earlier today.

It sets the stage for a crazy final day of the window with many potential signings still in play. Luke Edwards, of The Telegraph, is reporting that Newcastle are pushing for two more signings by tomorrow. They are names that not many others are reporting.

Edwards believes Newcastle are in talks to land striker Eddie Nketiah and left-back Matt Targett. Discussions are ongoing with neither Arsenal nor Aston Villa yet convinced to allow their players to leave in this window.

Targett has been touted as a potential ‘target’ since the arrival of Lucas Digne to Villa Park from Everton. Newcastle had other left-backs ahead of the 26-year-old but failed to get either Robin Gosens or Mitchel Bakker over the line.

There was also talk of long-term target Rogerio of Sassuolo becoming an option. However, that route seems to have gone cold over the past few days. Left-back is not as immediate an area of concern as adding another attacker with Callum Wilson’s recent injury history.

There could also be a surprise ending in the hunt for Jesse Lingard. Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World is reporting that Dan Burn and Lingard have been in contact recently. The pair both were on loan with Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season.

    On Eriksen:
Eeesh! Bon chance to the lad… I’m guessing he wouldn’t be at Brentford if their coach wasn’t Danish. It’s a risky shout!
But, all the best to him.

😆 played him in fifa Muahahaha

What a silly old man you are. You couldn’t even tie my laces wee man.

Come back when you take your time out to coach kids and see them improve as individuals and as a team rather than you sit in your nice warm room on your small chair with your wee legs dangling swinging, picking PL players on a fantasy game 😆

You are not even close to my level.

I’m not for one second having a go or sticking up for anyone else, you know I’m not like that, but here is a question I’d love an answer to. Maybe I’m totally wrong here, but in my eyes, getting some players who look good across Europe and even further afield might be good in the long term, maybe Summer window, but now and situation we are in, is it not better to go for players who know can do it in this league? Maybe better out there, but a risk when need them to be ready yesterday and not take a few games to settle. That’s why I like the sound of Botman and even Carlos, but how quick, whereas Coady, Holding and some of the others, come in today and can take the field next tuesday and no panic. Get sorted to stay up now and get great projects in the summer. Maybe I’m just to nervous seeing as a lot of my positiveness left when we dropped 2 points against Watford

Ekitike is a palindrome too. Buy him just for that, unique in the league, unless there’s a bloke called “Mam” for example.

We’ve made huge strides to safety in this window. Just feel a quality CAM would be the final piece we need. Another CB and LB would be brilliant but not much of a priority now.

Greedy me would love all three positions sorted too 😀

I didn’t say I wouldn’t have Targett as I would but I find it a pointless buy as he will only be replaced going forward.

Sorry mate but I don’t rate Holding, Jones etc and I think it would be a huge mistake bringing those kind of players in.

We’ve just signed Bruno mate so relax and see what the rest of the day brings

You are probably right, I’m thinking more of the squad a a whole Mund, but just panicking, Despite what I said, do get teh impression this Bruno lad could maybe keep us up on his own. Still hope we can pull off Linguard and Henderson and unlike others, I would like to see Deli Ali with us, he might just be able to get his career back on track

If Bakker or Tagliafico wasn’t possible I think a loan for Targett is a sensible deal. Does it include an option / obligation to buy though?

Clever how they kept the film fairly light hearted for such a serious issue back then…very well done indeed.
