Newcastle Confirm The Signing Of Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon on a four-and-a-half year deal. The 24-year-old officially becomes Eddie Howe’s third signing of the winter window.

Bruno will wear the number 39 shirt, which was the number of the taxi cab his father drove in his native Brazil. The midfielder represents a massive coup for Newcastle in the notoriously difficult winter window.

He is currently on international duty with Brazil and will remain so until later next week. Guimaraes will get to meet his new teammate Miguel Almiron as Brazil have a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Tuesday.

Here is what head coach Eddie Howe had to say about his new playmaker:

“Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I’m delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

“He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty.”

He looks fantastic in the black and white shirt of Newcastle United. Welcome aboard Bruno!.

    Well said Hibbitt.

For me, standing up to the taunts of man u and Liverpool fans as a kid (and even now) is beginning to feel more worth it every day!

“2 years ago I never thought I’d be gutted to see Dan Burn leaving our club, but I really am, he’s been so good for us, but £13m is too much to turn down for a 30 year old rotation option, thankyou so much for everything Dan, now go smash it at your boyhood club BFG #bhafc #nufc

I think we’ll get his best years here.

Would love to put a bow on this window with Zapata or Origi. Someone to bang in the goals that’ll keep us up. That said, I can’t wait to watch Bruno sliding passes into ASM.

We’ve overpaid for Wood and Burn and underpaid for Trippier and Bruno. It evens up nicely.

Yes must be great news for the team, to get such a decent players into a central position, influencing defence and attack. When did we last have a midfielder who can defend and attack? Gary Speed?

I also think we’ve played a blinder in walking away from Lille and Sevilla as that has sent a stern message out there. Sevilla now have a 28 year old player who wants away and will never again be worth £35M.

On principle, I don’t want us to get Lindgard now. I want us to get him for nowt in the summer. But I can’t ignore the fact that we probably need him now

He will be a very good signing for us imo left-footed as well badly needed .

Allowing for the fact that it’ll take a game or two for the new signings to bed in, we’re going to need to win about half of the remaining games, or less than that if we can get a few draws, to be safe.
Very doable, but we’ll need the rub of the green from time to time, something we’ve got coming after it being in short supply during the first half of the season.

    Dummett–Burn–Lascelles–Trippier

I don’t think we have actually spent that much either – I think some of these deals might be paid over the length of the contract rather than all up front

I seem to be in the minority here but I just don’t get the Dan Burn thing…I’ve seen him play against us a couple of times, and he’s bang average, leggy, seems to be a back-up squad player as apposed to holding down his own position, (when playing us up here in the last two seasons he played as a left half and a centre half) and certainly no better than anything we have.

Just seems to be a strange buy.

I’m not sure if he’s been brought in to be a left back or a left sided centre half, but either way I’m completely underwhelmed and hoping desperately I’m proved wrong.

Splash the cash in the next couple of days

Presumably the first two names on the team sheet for midfield will be Bruno and Big Joe.

But who will be the third player in a 4-3-3 formation?

    It’s all under control,

For left footed players we only have Clarke who is an own goal or red card waiting to happen. We have as backup the once very reliable Dummitt who doesn’t look match fit.

We could slot in a right footed player but Lascelles and Fede are recovering from injury.

    Burn is a necessity.

I’m sure in the summer transfer window we will buy someone else.

Spend spend spend so long as whoever we buy is better than anything we have.

I’m not sure he passes the Scattercash test on that basis! 🙂 🙂

Zapata is 31 in April. 43M Euros is a lot for a 30 yr old striker
