Newcastle Confirm The Signing Of Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon on a four-and-a-half year deal. The 24-year-old officially becomes Eddie Howe’s third signing of the winter window.

Bruno will wear the number 39 shirt, which was the number of the taxi cab his father drove in his native Brazil. The midfielder represents a massive coup for Newcastle in the notoriously difficult winter window.

He is currently on international duty with Brazil and will remain so until later next week. Guimaraes will get to meet his new teammate Miguel Almiron as Brazil have a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Tuesday.

Here is what head coach Eddie Howe had to say about his new playmaker:

“Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I’m delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

“He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty.”

He looks fantastic in the black and white shirt of Newcastle United. Welcome aboard Bruno!.

Pottsclock…but he’s 100% better than anything else we have so if we get 3 years out of him and he keeps us up this year and then takes us to the next level then worth every penny.

    IMO 🙂 🙂

    sparky55,
We spent the best part of 30 days trying to get players who’s club’s wanted too much money or didn’t want to come. There is nothing to ‘get’ about the signing of Dan Burn, he is in the mould of Holding or Phillips, nothing spectacular and not many will be getting his name on the back of their shirts, however with one day to go and Ciaran Clark in line to start our next game he is an essential signing. A good honest pro, of which you can tell be his previous fans comments will give his absolute all and some more for his boyhood club.

Oh, and he’s a ball player not just a hoof it up the park merchant.

So another piece of the jigsaw to getting us playing football and not head tennis, that we mostly lost anyway. 🙂

One from : Lingaard, Origi, Zapata, Ekitike

    Those are the usual names….

Zapata is too old to spend 40m on.

So the back four that finished the Leeds game so solidly doesn’t work for you?

January, is such a difficult time to sign players, no one wants to sell, why would they, as has been shown, they would have to replace their star players, so the deals we’ve managed have been excellent. And still time for more. I think the transfer team have been amazing to get what they have.
Stay up, and next season transfer window could be very special.

    Sparky55,
Not at all, Clark is finished and simply shouldn’t be starting games anymore. His frustration at his own game have seen him sent off twice in two starts, we can’t afford to have him targeted.

Tomorrow is going to be exciting, actually can go out and spend big vs hoping to get a cheap deal/loan under Ashley.

Hoping Bruno signing will turn heads of other targets.

Personal terms agreed too, deal in place for Newcastle.

How many times in the last 5 years has Clark really let us down?

If we wrote off every defender that made a couple of mistakes a game and got sent off twice in 5 years but also scored 11 goals, then we’d have no defence whatsoever.

Why does two sending off’s in short succession mean he’s a risk.

He’s actually a very solid defender and Dan Burn is no better

    IMO

Dan Burn performed almost twice the defensive work than any Newcastle’s CB, in a non-defensive team. Yet people doubt him. Newcastle’s defense was constantly under threat, yet the CBs not raking up the stats is why resulting so many goals conceded.

Defensive stats are hugely effected by the midfield sat in front of them.

This will change massively with Joe and Bruno working together in front of whoever becomes our back four.

Our existing back four including Clark would fare much better with Bruno and Joe and an other sat in front of them.

Three in and three more to follow, Burn, Lingard and maybe keeper Dean Henderson ( a Whitehaven lad so nearly coming home) ?

That’s more than half a new team.

Burn at 6’7″ would have stopped the cross for the Villa goal when they nicked a point.

    sparky55,
He should have been replaced at least three seasons ago. I pointed this out a couple of years ago and was told he was one of our best defenders. That was my point proven and the reason we are in a relegation battle year after year. Brighton fans seem sad he’s going, there’s not many will be upset to see Clark leave the club. He clearly is better though as he plays in a defence as leaky as Man City and Wolves yet Ciaran Clark is part of the second worst defence in the league. Who were you expecting.

Bruno is an exciting signing. Looks great. Just hope he gets up to speed with pace of PL quick. It’s different to French league.
Burn is just a sensible signing – like the Chris Wood signing. I used to like Clark as a defender but his legs have gone, and I think he knows it. He was never fast to start with but now he is a mistake waiting to happen. We can hardly afford any mistakes for the rest of the season.
I still think EH is trying to get what he needs so he can play 3-5-2 when he wants, or 4-3-3 depending on the game. Looking forward to rest of today and tomorrow

The better the DM, the lesser defensive work the CBs need to do.This makes Dan Burn’s performance even more impressive, since he have a top parsing DM in his team.
